Having a cafeteria nearby is great. Offers better food at a better price than some of the«bigger» chains. Forget the fast food and have a great home cooked meal! Owners are former K&W alumni.

It’s a cafeteria. If you’ve been to J&S or K&W, you’ll like it. Good home styled food, served cafeteria style. Personally, I’m a fan of the baked chicken, chicken pan pie, and macaroni and cheese(but not all at the same time lol). It’s an added plus that the dining room attendant keeps your drinks filled and moves trays out of your way. Granted, it’s not on the best side of town, but we still eat here occasionally anyways. It’s a nice change from the fast food frenzy in the area.

OK we eat there today and every other week and my sister who is mentally handicap and in her 40’s, she always order the«child place» The check out lady refuse to sell her the child place, I step in and ask the manger and he OK it. When we sit down and i look at the bill, the lady charge her adult price chicken tenders, side rice, soft drink and a roll. This lady got the nerves to do this even after the manger OK it. Guess what… we are going back to K&W. Poor customer service. You charge child plate and you give child services portion. It, s not like we sneak in an all you can eat person and ask for a child price!!!

This is a nice, traditioal cafeteria addition to the culinary wasteland that is Northeastern Greensboro. It is not a place the beautiful people will flock to — not even sure that beautiful people flock, at least, not in the traditional sense. This is the typical cafeteria setup, serving up the standard fare, but with a little more Southern attitude than most such places. The Fried Chicken is ¼, fried to a nice crust. tender, and with a little touch of grease that makes Southern fried chicken what it is. The Country Style Steak is tasty, tender, with a very good gravy — portion is slightly small. The Tossed Salad is a full bowl, enough to share, for sure, and the blue cheese dressing is nice. Forget the Carrot Salad, more sugar than the average doughnut. Other sides are good, nothig blow-you-away-special, but cafeteria good. Corn muffin and hard rolls are nice. Coconut Cake looks better than it tastes. Good solid cafeteria. Hopefully they will be successful in this location.

H&F Cafeteria reminds me of the heyday of Southern American cafeterias: decent food, reasonable prices, and quick service. Nothing here will make you crave a return, but it serves well for a quick meal. H&F follows the same model as the K&W chain: line up, get a tray, choose a salad, choose a meat, choose some sides, choose a dessert, choose a bread, choose a beverage, and receive a check for the tab; pay as you exit. Simple and no fuss. The food choices are similar to K&W as well, with a menu straight out of the 1960s and 1970s. I had a childhood favorite, Chicken Cisco(a fried boneless chicken breast topped with pimentos, broccoli, and cheese sauce — $ 3.89). I also tried the obligatory mac-n-cheese($ 1.25) and fried squash($ 1.25). All three selections were good, meaning they reminded me of Sunday after-church lunches at K&W. I was particularly impressed by the friendly dining room attendant, who greeted me as I sat down, and kept my tea glass full. Unfortunately, H&F is located on the«wrong» side of the invisible divide that separates the gentrifying area of Pisgah Church Road from the economically depressed Church Street area. This may be the cafeteria’s downfall: a downscale shopping center with transients roaming the parking lot doesn’t invite customers, especially the elderly Buick– and Cadillac-drivers who love cafeteria fare. Likewise, despite the reasonable prices, H&F may be too expensive for the fast-food-dominated neighborhood. As for me, I like having this option for a quick, «home-style» meal. I plan to return.
I was very pleasantly surprised when we ate here the over the weekend. The food is outstanding and the prices are awesome. Each day there is a different special which is around five bucks and ranges from spaghetti to steak and shrimp to lasagna. On Saturday the special is prime rib. You get a huge slab of tender juicy prime rib, a salad, and a baked potato for ten bucks! I couldn’t believe how good the food actually was, and especially with the prices being so low. For the same meal you’d probably pay around thirty bucks somewhere else. The neighborhood isn’t the greatest, but once inside you quickly forget this. The atmosphere is a lot nicer and more modern than K & W, and the restaurant is well lit and spacious. I’ll definitely be back here again, and am looking forward to trying the meatloaf everyone went on about.
