As has been said, the Gateway Gardens is a lovely park. The one negative mentioned was the«side of town» it is on. There is nothing wrong with where it is placed and it makes a lovely entry into or exit our of Greensboro. It across from the brand new Hayes-Taylor YMCA and a block from Barber Park were so many outdoor concerts, and other activities, are held. My only concern is the large conference /event room has not been finished and the City has started another park uptown before completing this project. Now is THAT because of the«side of town» it is on?

Gateway Gardens is one of the four public gardens created and maintained by Greensboro Beautiful and Greensboro Parks and Recreation. The other three are Tanger Bicentennial, Greensboro Arboretum, and Bog Garden. This garden mirrors Tanger in that it has sculptures, artsy type stuff, as well as the plants that go along with botanical gardens. It is however unique and hard to explain. It is well maintained as both of the entities mentioned before do a damn good job of upkeep. There is a visitor center that has bathrooms and brochures. All of the four gardens in Greensboro have these available. The center on the left side has a large open space for receptions or whatever and an outdoor patio out back that could accommodate a ton of people for an event. According to a map I picked up, there are plans to add the following along Florida Street(no timeline): Japanese Garden White Oak Forest Wedding and Special Events Garden Rose Garden Although not finished, the place is beautiful and would be even more so during months where stuff is in bloom. The garden is easily walked and labeled clearly. The map provided corresponds perfectly. Greensboro does a great job with maintenance and upkeep with all of its parks. Go to other cities and you can see this difference. Gateway Gardens is a unique garden and would appeal to folks who like this sort of thing. If there is any downfall to it, it might be the area of Greensboro it is located. But no worries. Enjoy the effort put into all of the gardens in the city.

Gateway Gardens officially opened to the public on Sunday, April 10. It’s a joyful, playful, colorful arrangement of blooming plants, trees, paths, metal sculptures of musical instruments and whimsical frogs, beautiful stain glass butterflies, ponds and fountains. There is a HUGE giraffe made of metal and plant material and a delightful maze to stroll or skip through. There is something to make you smile everywhere you turn. If you get tired, sit on a colorful apple, pear or watermelon bench! This is also a teaching garden for young children with pretty and artistic alphabet sculptures throughout the garden. I love everything about Gateway Gardens, but my favorite area is the gorgeous sculpture over the stone fountain with cascading water and the broad, beautiful plaza surrounding it. Totally accessible for young and old. Oh, use the bathroom before you come, so far there are no restrooms.
