I really miss this place. I used to live in Greensboro but now live in Atlanta. I haven’t found anything comparable to El Baraka Market and it makes me so sad. I mainly went to this shop for their halal meats. I would highly suggest the lamb. It’s usually very tender and fresh. I used to get the ground beef too and it is SO much better than what you find in a grocery store and less expensive. I like to cook North African food but it’s hard finding the ingredients. This place always had everything I needed. Great selection of spices, sweets, tea, coffee, cheeses, couscous, and much more. I would have to agree with the previous commenter and say the dates they carry here are fantastic! El Baraka is definitely the best Arabic market in the area. If you are looking for quality halal meat you will certainly find it here.

This is a great market with a wide variety of staples for Middle-Eastern and Mediterranean cuisines. Once you peep their prices on some imported items — such as roasted red peppers, kalamata olives, feta cheese, and olive oil — you’ll laugh at the fools paying the regular grocery store prices. The BEST dates! I grew up on pretty delicious dates my dad used to bulk order from a food cooperative, and I’ve had a hard time in the past several years finding decent dates — the standard U.S. pitted type are always horribly dry, and most others are too(and, yech, I can’t stand those dry poopy pellet looking rolls covered in flour). I’ve looked all over town — including several other groceries of this genre — and been disappointed, until El Baraka! They don’t always have a shipment in, but check in the glass case at the counter for the black box — those are the dates imported from Lebanon, I believe the proprietor said. For the juiciest dates I’ve ever had(they were literally oozing, and still on the stems!), $ 4/lb was an ultimate bargain. Lastly, this pesky pescatarian can’t tell you much about the fresh meat counter, but the smells are good and it’s all halal(that is, in accordance with Muslim law). Additionally, one side of the store has other retail items, like soaps and knick knacks and clothing.
