I think this place is closed. I drove all the way to the place and it looked deserted. I tried calling and no answer. There was no clear signage on the door to note whether they were open or not but when I peaked inside it looked deserted. It’s also right next to a liquor store so that was a little different to say the least. A guy with a 4 wheeler headed to the liquor store almost hit me as I was trying to park. It’s unfortunate because I was looking for some good caribbean food in Greensboro — still can’t find it! Arghghh

You won’t be sorry! We drove in from Fayetteville & wanted Caribbean. We found this place & it had great reviews. The food was fresh & the staff were very friendly. You gotta try the hot-sauce if you can hang. Had my eyes watering. Great food & good times! Oxtails were seasoned perfect & Pineapple mango chicken was off the charts! Will be coming back!

AWESOME! That is all I can say. I Unilocaled this little hole in the wall looking for something different and got it. The staff was great and the curried chicken was amazing. The flavor was perfect and fell right off the bone. You need to try Mama’s.

Absolutely love their food! If you want authentic Caribbean food this is the place to try. Restaurant is not the largest so I recommend take out. The stewed chicken is one of my favorite dishes. Enjoy!

Being originally from the Caribbean, it’s refreshing to have a home style restaurant that I can frequent and indulge in. The food is bursting with flavor and tastes home made. Always a warm welcome when you arrive. The food is consistently good. Highly recommended!

Had the chicken curry there, and it is exceptional. Tender without being mushy – the meat falls off the bone in juicy chunks – and the sauce is rich and flavorful. My only wish is that they had a cheaper lunch menu, but you get a heaping amount of delicious food with your order, including a perfectly-cooked side of cabbage and some tasty peas and rice(or plain rice if you prefer). The sweet tea is really good too. Go check them out.

I wish I could rate this place 10 stars but 5 will have to do. I don’t usually write such a long review but this restaurant deserves it. I’m not sure which was better the food or the service, I’ll start with the food. My husband and I rarely try Caribbean food out because it’s often Americanized and just not good. This was not the case at Calypso Mama. I had curry chicken, stewed cabbage, and peas and rice. The chicken had an amazing flavor and was fall off the bone tender. The peas and rice were excellent but the stewed cabbage was out of this world and I wished I’d gotten an order to go it was so good. My husband had curry goat, curry potatoes, and roti wrap. It was my husband’s first time trying goat and he almost ate the bones. The potatoes were delicious. But the roti… AMAZING! There is no way you can walk into this place and leave in a bad mood. I have not had service so good in a long time. Everyone was welcoming and inviting that worked here. We felt as if we were at a friends house for dinner. I’m already planning my next trip back and I hope Calypso Mama is around for a very long time.

This new place(opened a month ago or so) is tiny, located in the general area where TV Grill was located back in the day. As the name implies, they serve Caribbean cuisine including Jerk Ribs, Jerk Chicken, Curry Chicken, Indies Stew(chicken), Oxtail Stew, and Roti Wraps — they make the roti in house! On the weekends they offer Peppa Shrimp, Curry Goat, and Fish Curry. Sides include Plantains, Cabbage, Rice, Rice & Peas, Curry Potatoes, and even a version of Mac & Cheese. I caught’em between lunch and dinner Friday, so they were temporarily out of Curry Goat(they use thick cuts of goat with the bone in) and Peppa Shrimp. I took an order of what they did have — Curry Chicken, lunch size($ 7.25 with Cabbage and Rice & Peas), Indies Stew, dinner portion($ 9 with Cabbage and Rice), and Oxtail Stew, dinner portion also($ 10.50 with Cabbage, Rice & Peas, & Plantains). Unfortunately they were also out of the Roti. There was not an item that was not, at the very least, good, and some were exceptional. The Oxtail Stew was in that exceptional class — loaded with flavor, fork tender, and smothered in a thick, tasty gravy — pushed around with the rice, and you have a great taste treat. Both the Indies Stew and the Curry Chicken were very good, though the Curry Chicken seemed to have a bit more flavor, a touch more zip! The Rice & Peas were excellent, and the amount of peas was impressive — other restaurants in the area seem to skimp on the peas — often it should be called Rice & A Pea or Two. The Cabbage is the Caribbean version, cooked al dente with some nice heat mixed in. The Plantains are steamed here, giving them a «softer» texture than most — this is a good version, but as with most things, I prefer them pan fried, with a little outside crust. They have a house hot sauce, that is a real hot sauce — the amount they provide is small, but it is more than enough. All in all, a very nice meal — one that we’ll repeat and add to. The folks here(husband and wife team) are friendly and efficient, really nice folks. Small place, take out is the best option — lots of folks don’t find their way to this side of town, but maybe they should.
