Bistro 40

Ok, it’s Sunday at 8 pm, and the restaurant is dark. My daughter and I ask if they are open and the bartender tells us we can sit in the restaurant and they will turn in the lights, or sit in the bar area. We sat out in the bar area and all seems to be ok. then it’s a wait for overpriced wine, food that comes out cold (salt and pepper calamari) our waitress brings back calamari and says she’s sorry– 29 minutes later, calamari returns-​warmer, no salt, no pepper. Long story short– main course announced at 930 ish and the bland calamari still sitting on table.
Looked at all reviews and think we’ll chalk it up to bad timing. Even so, the price we paid for bad service and bad food not justified. Sad for you Marriott

Bistro 40 has excellent quality food. However the price is extremely high and the menu is pretty boring. If you are here on a business trip (likely) then you are in great shape. If you are willing to explore, then you can do much better.

Had breakfast here one morning and then lunch later in the day. Bistro 40 is located inside the Greensboro Marriott. It’s the best feature of the hotel — as the hotel itself is seriously dated in terms of it’s condition, HVAC systems and such.
I ordered an omelet with Chorizo, mushrooms, spinach, onions, and cheese, plus snagged some breakfast potatoes and a side of bacon from the buffet.
The omelet was very good! I also liked the breakfast potatoes, they had a nice crust on the outside and were soft and chewy on the inside. Bacon is of course bacon! Crisp and delicious without being underdone or overcooked. The coffee was very, very good!
Later in the day I was sitting in the lobby area just outside of the entrance to the restaurant — working away on my MacBook Pro. It was time for lunch — I asked the servers if I could have my lunch served out in the area I was seated — which is by the Hotel Bar. They told me yes, I ordered the Caesar salad with grilled chicken. It is served with a toasted garlic bread, and shaved Parmesan cheese for the salad. Your basic, solid, Caesar salad. Nothing fancy but I enjoyed it.
Service was outstanding!

We just finished having our best meal in North Carolina here. As Californians, and a avid traveler of the world, I was really impressed with the fresh quality of the food and the tastiness of the dishes. The chef got it all right. We had the lettuce wraps (the chicken was perfect and the sauce was excellent, not too sweet or salty like other fancy asian fusion places that I have had it), egg rolls (super crunchy and crisp with a tasty peanut dressing), french onion soup with melted cheese on top (the soup was just right, not too salty like other places that I have had it, just so perfect that I gobbled up every last drop), and lastly the pasta (a Parmesan cream sauce with fettucine, peas, ham, bacon, and secret spices. the best white Parmesan cream sauce I have ever had. I wish my sister was here because that would be her new favorite dish!)
And then there is the fantastic service. Janet is probably the best waitress that I have ever had. People in NC are already the friendliest people in the world, but Janet went out of her way to always make sure our glasses were full, dishes were taken away, and made sure that we were happy customers with a happy smile on her face (not one of those fake ones like other waitresses at other restaurants). We even chatted with Janet and she told us how she loved her job and taking care of her customers. She was so warm that I felt like she had welcomed us into her dining room table.
We all walked out of there with full stomachs, a food colma, and happy smiles on our faces. Everyone loved their food.
I wish that they advertise this place more. there wasnt even a menu at the front desk or sign or advertisements anywhere. or maybe it will be our new favorite secret restaurant spot when we are in town :)
One thing that I wish that they would change for our next visit is the lighting. the ambiance is bright with all the lights on. they should dim the lights and add candles for a more intimate feeling in the restaurant.
