The couple times I made purchases here I had helpful staff show me options within my budget, and received goods that lasted. My wife’s a TV binger, and the inexpensive DVD player we bought here that pretty much ran 3 – 5 hours a day every day for four years was still working when we upgraded. I’d patronize Manny’s again.

I’d give five stars except it took five days to deliver and the set-up process wasn’t finished when the drivers handed me the remote and said, «Just follow the instructions.» Okay, it’s Christmas season and they were in a hurry. For $ 50 they took the giant albatross of an ancient big-screen television off my hands. I couldn’t budge the damn thing but they picked it up like it was a box of feathers. The moment of panic occurred after they left. I’m not tech savvy. I didn’t know I needed to use the Comcast remote to switch channels. And I was staring at a gray and foggy television screen. I called the store and Susan walked me through two steps with the LG remote and then told me to use the Comcast remote to scroll through the channels. Everything worked. She called me 30 minutes later to make sure I was satisfied. Good business practice. The new TV is a 32-inch LG. It’s a «non-smart» but I’m not smart enough to use a smart TV anyway. Yes I could’ve gotten a better deal ten miles up the road at Wal-Mart, but they would not have delivered the television, taken the cardboard container-box off my hands or hauled off the old TV. I was paying extra for the aforementioned conveniences and felt it was worth it. On the day of the sale, Susan cut me a break off the sticker price and also the take-away price of the old TV. All in all, the transition from having a big, broken, power-consuming relic to a smaller TV with excellent reception was relatively painless. Almost totally painless. Make it 4-and-a-half stars!

The only reason one should shop here is if they enjoy wasting money. Sales staff knows less about the products than you do. To top that off prices rival that of a prison commissary in relation to what you’d pay else where. If you made the mistake of purchasing from them and need service, you’re better off going to a bookstore and buying the For Dummies book for the repair. Sometimes it is sad when big box stores kill the little guy, in this case it would be a welcome relief.

I called Manny’s to schedule a service call for my Bosch dryer, which had started spewing grit and lint onto my clean clothes. I was told the cost of a service call is $ 140. When I mentioned that I’d like the service to include a cleaning of the dryer exhaust duct, the Manny’s rep said«oh no, we don’t do that.» I suggested that a blocked exhaust duct might be a likely cause of the problem, and that I didn’t want to pay $ 140 to have someone tell me that, and then not fix it… the rep just repeated that they only fix the dryer. I called Salemi Appliances in Springfield. They’ll fix the dryer AND do a thorough cleaning of the exhaust duct as part of the service call. I’ve hired them.
