Taste of Home recipe books. By the dozens. Years ago I received a subscription to Taste of Home magazine and it was one of the best gifts ever. Eating food is only half the fun: trying new recipes is the other half. In fact, I like reading recipe books. TOH magazine let me do all of that. The recipes are all from everyday people around the country. It’s like a social group/church cookbook on a bigger scale. Taste Of Home consolidates all those recipes in annual recipe books for those who prefer a hardcover to a magazine. They even break the books out by categories if you have a specific interest: Meals for two, casseroles, desserts, vegetables, main courses, etc. The visitor center sells the books at a great price. There’s even a test kitchen with chefs who try out recipes and where visitors can watch. Reiman company also has non-food magazines that lead to the country store outlet that’s stocked with everything from kitchen accessories to bird feeders. There’s even a section of Norman Rockwell magazine covers that’s fun to look at. It’s a classic Americana store, a memento of time gone or a life that city dwellers never fully experience: farm and ranch living, birds and flowers, or even a magazine filled with stories of growing up in pre-internet days. It’s a fun store to browse and a fun store to pick up a recipe book or two.

This place is just… cool. It’s neat to walk around and look at everything. A perfect way to pass time and empty your wallet. Norman Rockwell has a display in the back, which is really fun to look over with all the magazine covers everywhere and the neat life-size model they have of him. The downstairs is a cute store with cookbooks, kitchen stuff, and clothes. It’s crazy that you can have so much stuff in a kitchen, sheesh! It’s free to come in and the staff are very willing to help you out or just talk to.
