I wish I took a picture of this winery since these photos are of Greenbank farm up the street not Greenbank Cellars on Day Rd. When we arrived at Greenbank Cellars we weren’t quite sure where the tasting room was since the signage is confusing. There is a sign pointing right for parking and left for winery the sign pointing left for the winery means it is behind the sign in the barn. They are open on the weekend for tasting during the summer and it was a free tasting which was nice since everyone else was charging you a dollar a taste! So we got to taste and enjoy all their offerings and because of that bought a bottle. The guy doing to pouring was great and really knowledgeable. However we found out that this winery might not be here much longer since the owner is having health issues and is selling the property. So come up here next summer it might be your last chance to taste this wine!

I was here for the WI wine tour on Nov. 13, 2011. Tasted nothing special, it was as though they broke out their throwaway bottles for the tasting event. Our sommelier was friendly but didn’t offer wine notes — I think this is just a difference in approach(a matter of personal taste), but it’s not what I’m used to. It’s part of the experience for me, and helps me gain an appreciation for what I’m tasting that I may not come to on my own. It’s adjacent to a little café, where we had a disappointing lunch.

This winery was a breath of fresh air. It felt like an oasis in the middle of a barren field. They have the winery tasting room to the left and a restaurant on the right. Situated at the center of Whidbey Island, Greenbank Cellars is a small, family-owned winery and vineyard. They specialize in Alsatian-style white wines and two-year barrel-aged reds. Another 5 tasters and we were getting hungry. I bought a bottle of Riesling 2004 for $ 15. Had it brown bagged and we were off again. Spend a day on the island and support the local business.

I’ve only been here once during a «Wine & Chocolate» event, but I was really impressed by both the look & feel of this winery, and the wine itself. The tasting room itself is attached to a renovated barn and made to match the cozy/antique-y atmosphere. The host is gracious, charming and definitely knows his wine, and the wine itself = WOW. I was consistently blown away after every taste. I left with two bottles, and the only reason we didn’t stop here on our last visit was because it was freezing and we had already spent our wine budget for the day. But I will definitely, definitely be going back — and I highly recommend!
