We had such a great experience! We had 10 people and the service was awesome. Six hungry kids and all were well taken care of. We tried the Chinese food and it was delicious. The fruit tea was well worth it, handmade with care.

I found the woman Amanda to be a little rude or maybe to over sarcastic. Order a turkey and Swiss sandwich and asked to add avocado, when the sandwich finally came, it was 3 or 4 slices of turkey that were stuck together in one slab as if they just peeled it out of the container and did not bother to separate it and make it look like it wasn’t from the container. 2 measly tomato slices, and 1 piece of lettuce for each side. Didn’t even come with avocado, but wasn’t added on to the bill. Just under $ 10 for this school lunch sandwich. Better off eating at home.

I really wanted to like this quaint restaurant, but my $ 11 avacado, tomato and cheese sandwich on sourdough was just too small to justify the high price. It came with one piece of processed cheese and a couple slices of overripe tomato and the fries were too oily – had to use several paper towels to soak up the oil. My daughter liked her burger. I would stick with the burgers if dining here.

I doubt even Gordon Ramsey could save this place. No one acknowledged us when we came in, servers in a state of profound confusion. Sat ourselves down and waited 15 minutes until someone took our order. Then waited 50 minutes for 3 burgers which at best could only be described as better than nothing(btw you can only have your burger well done!). Since the lake inn next door closed this place is the only game in town, and I’m guessing their complacency is catching up with them. Take my advice and stop in Running Springs for food. It’s really disappointing there’s basically no decent restaurant food in Green Valley Lake.

We came in and really wanted to like this place. .. sad that we didn’t because it has so much potential. This Malt Shop is the only game in town and that is why it survives. You’d think the shakes and malts would be excellent since that is in the name, but that is not the case. I had the peanut butter shake and I could hardly taste the peanut butter. The shake also contained large chucks of ice like the ice cream was old. .either that or the mixer they use to make the shakes is not strong enough. Either way, this is not good for restaurant that specializes in shakes and malts.(We also ordered a chocolate shake and it had the same issues). We had the fish and chips and the hamburger. The fish was pretty good…a bit greasy, but not too bad. The hamburger was ok…a bit pricey for what you get and it was a bit salty/garlicy. The fries are natural fries and aren’t that tasty. The service is terrible…not because of the people working there, but because the place is severely under staffed. This makes the service quite slow. It took 15 minutes to place an order and another 30 for the food to arrive. The owners really need a lesson on how to run a restaurant because they are letting business walk away. I counted at least 10 people who walked away because of the slow service. I probably would have given this place one star if it wasn’t for Raven the server. She is an asset of this business and other employees should emulate the way she handles the customers. As an owner you NEED to listen to this employee!!! If you can get it together, I think you could have a very successful business. Just take a look at the Malt Shop in Cedar Glen(Arrowhead). They know how to operate a Malt Shop. One last thing. .. .we had a 3 year old with us and were happy that you had a kids menu, but we have NEVER seen a place that serves burgers NOT have a cheese burger option on the kids menu.

I would love to give this cute little place a good review, but I just can’t. I came in earlier on Saturday for a milkshake. The owners insisted we sit down, even though it was just to go. It took about 20 minutes for 4 milkshakes, so I could see why we were asked to sit. The only thing was that there was a group that came in after us that had to stand since we were at the second largest table(the biggest one was occupied with people getting lunch). I felt bad just taking up space, since we told them we were happy to stand by the door and wait. When we got the milkshake, it was just okay – mine was peanut butter and coffee, but tasted more like vanilla with a small hint of peanut butter. My friend who also got the peanut butter said hers tasted like vanilla. Next time, I thought, I would just get chocolate. Later that evening we wanted to get some dinner and decided to go back to the café since it was the only restaurant open in walking distance from the cabin. I really wish we hadn’t. Now, don’t get me wrong, we knew with a party of 10 it would take a long time – this place is tiny. And the staff was very friendly. But the food is quite possibly the worst I’ve ever had. Due to a power outage the night before(at least that’s what they blamed it on), they were out of half the menu – soups, chili, tortillas, fish and chips and salad. That basically left burgers and one sandwich. I got the patty melt – can’t go wrong, right? WRONG! First, I asked if they had anything I could substitute a side salad with. Remember, they were out of salad. They said all they had was fries. The poor guy taking our order said he was just in for the day helping out. I think he worked somewhere else. He had to write down everything long hand and was so frazzled by running back and forth everywhere. I got my fries with my «patty melt» but they were really just soggy, oddly burgundy-brown potato strips fried in something. I squirted the last of the mustard and ketchup(and had the hardest time trying to get more from them than a bottle with a few tablespoons in it) and attempted to eat them. The other people in my group had to wait for fries since there’s only one fryer(totally fine!) but then they came out at the end of the meal in these huge baskets which no one really wanted. We literally had to beg them to stop. But I digress– my patty melt was on obviously frozen sourdough bread that was still very hard. There wasn’t much butter used(hello, it’s a party melt!) and the burger was burnt, tasteless and rock hard. The absolute worst, however, were the onions and mushrooms(they were crimini mushrooms, which was odd). They were burnt to a crisp! When I poked my fork in them, wondering what the blackened substance was, they literally crumbled into tiny pieces. I cannot believe, under ANY circumstances, that these were placed in a burger. If they were the last mushrooms and onions they had, and they had been overlooked and charred to bits, they should have told me and NEVER put them on. It was appalling and I had to remove all of them! Needless to say, I couldn’t finish the meal. Besides that, they never refilled our drinks, they forgot one of the orders completely and they magically appeared to others with egg rolls(what the heck?! Apparently they have a secret Asian menu – no joke!) and were talking to others about dumplings you could buy. I want dumplings! The woman working didn’t look like she did much but talk to customers(and bump into us) and the man who was there spent most of his time apologizing profusely. They had a younger woman whose sole job was milkshake making, but they really weren’t that busy. They also just got their liquor license that day and by 5pm, when we arrived, they were out of beers. Really?! There is a convenience store next door! It was odd. I honestly didn’t take any pictures because it would have been so obvious what I was doing and why(and I think a little mean), so sorry, you will just have to visualize! On a more positive note, the grilled cheese was yummy and I believe they are under new ownership and are working out the kinks. Someone said they will only be open Fri-Sun, but I’m not sure if that’s true. Although I will never go here again, I truly hope they adapt and succeed.

Stopped in with the family today for lunch. Raven was our server and she was great. Everyone working there, super nice. We thought the food was good, everyone but me and the baby had burgers, I tried a bite and it was well seasoned and good. I had the BLTA, very good. The baby had chicken fries, they were good too. The Malts are yummy, place is clean… We will stop in again if ever up that way.

I would really like to give this newly remodeled business a great review. Sadly as good as the service was the food left a lot to be desired. I had a BLT and it majorly lacked good bacon. Spend a little money Mr. Owner and put some good quality bacon and don’t skimp. My friend had a hamburger and his comments were so so at best. The waitresses friendly was as can be and icewater was great and I love sitting on the patio and just looking at the lake. I may give them another try in the future and hope for the best.

Went in today for lunch 1ish and by the time we left I knew something was amiss, on the way home around 4:30 pm both of my kids and my wife started getting stomach cramps. By the time we got home they had all thrown up everything they ate and then some. In addition we were treated as if we weren’t welcome there, the server even said something to the effect that we weren’t used to the mountains(we live in Oak Glen 4000ft), it’s not like Green Valley is on top of Everest– get over yourselves people, try to treat people the way you’d like to be treated or not… Needless to say we will not be back.

Great memories here. I came here with friends to kill some time, and we had such a great time! We came here on Super Bowl Sunday, so this place was empty, so we were pretty much the only ones in the store. Our waitress was so funny and friendly, and provided amazing customer service! Non of us ordered a meal, but we all got something to drink and then shared a huge plate of fries. Everything we had tasted great, and the price was very reasonable, especially for something up in the mountains. This shop is located in the little strip of shops in Green Valley Lake, and is such a cute little café. If you are spending some time in this cute little mountain town, don’t hesitate to stop by this restaurant! I’ll definitely be back next time I’m in the area.

The only good thing about this place is the service. All servers are very courteous and nice and they’re the only reason I’m not going back there to get a refund for the awful food we ate. Here’s what we ordered: Spaghetti and meatballs: the only good thing is that the meatballs seem freshly made. Apart from that, disaster. The noodles were definitely old, made the day or more before. Sauce, i’m tempted to say canned but this tasted worse than canned. It seemed like tomato paste overkill. Simply horrible. A total waste of $ 15. Quesadillas: unremarkable. I’ll be damned if they do quesadillas wrong. It is pretty expensive for such plainly prepared quesadillas. For the price, one would expect guacamole with it. Chicken tortilla soup: does not taste like tortilla soup. Tasted more like curry soup. I tried to like it, but, just no. Their salads are ok. Though I must note that the avocados that were on the one I ordered are not ripe yet and has no flavor. They gave me cornbread too, I was overcome with disbelief that the cook managed to screw up something as simple as cornbread too! The one in the box tastes much more edible. Overall, they need to replace whoever makes the food — and fast. People dont mind paying a bit more as long as the food they’re getting is, at the least, ok with the palate, especially in this area. But for the record, my palate was never ready to wage war until today.

We came up to Green Valley for Halloween weekend with our friends. We stopped at the Malt Shoppe for lunch. When we entered the shoppe it was packed full of people having a Halloween Party for the local children. There were no seats open, but the staff immediately told us to stay while they quickly found a table to seat us. We ordered Hamburgers, Fries and Malts. The Burgers were tasty and the Malt was great ! Amanda came and introduced herself to make sure that we were being taken care of. The waitress was very attentive and checked on us frequently. Amanda even gave us some Halloween Treats to take with us. This is a small town, and the service was exactly what you would hope for in a small town Malt Shoppe. We will absolutely stop in on our next visit.

Stopped by on the day after Halloween and right into the middle of a children’s Halloween party. The staff was extremely friendly and made up a table for us so we wouldn’t have to wait. We just needed a snack, so we ordered a bacon burger to share. Our meal arrived in good time and was already cut in half on separate plates for us… A very nice touch. The meal was very good, cooked just as asked. Fries were crisp and tasty. The beer was cold Our waitress was very nice and efficient. The owner, Amanda stopped by our table to make sure all was good. We had a great time, and some very good food! We will be back for sure!

Had a detour on our way to big bear and with 3 hrs to kill we came to green valley lake. We’ve been passing the sign for 25 years but never had time to stop here. What a Fun place, everyone so friendly just like Mayberry. The chef agreed to serve us breakfast even though it was afternoon, they are very accommodating. Restaurant and its amenities are very clean and welcoming. Amanda is a sweetie, we promise to return in a year and see what she’s done with the town.

If you’re anywhere near Green Valley Lake in the San Bernardino mountains, give yourself a treat and visit the Malt Shop! I’ve been here many times and just took my Father in Law as a reward for a hard days work. We both LOVED it! Personal service, delicious food and, of course, wonderful malts and shakes. Our server, Amanda(if that’s her real name ;))’ was a hoot and very attentive. GVL is a small town, but this restaurant shows it has a huge heart!!! Dwight

The service is terrible. I waited for a long time for my food and when it got to me it was cold. The waitress gave me a $ 1 discount on the bill but I would have rather paid full price and got a good meal. I also waited a long time to pay, I finally had to go to the waitress and ask for my bill. Don’t waste your money there.

Stopped by here yesterday with my family and it was a different experience. As soon as we walked into the restaurant every local who was sitting in there turned, and stared liked they never seen tourists before. So we helped ourselves to a seat and then we had to get our own menu. Thats when some locals came into the restaurant and a girl with red hair showed them to their seat and gave them menu. Then she walked to the bar and sat down. So what ever! The food was burgers and fries. So, ok burgers but all of the burgers are over ten dollars! So we ordered burgers and they were over cooked, but the fries were good. The waitress was great and friendly.
