I have to admit right here and now that I haven’t been in Margie’s since 2001, when two really snotty and uppity people named Ron and Lindy owned it. I believe they owned the attached bookstore as well. Lord, what a couple of puffed-up blowhards. They really thought their shit didn’t stink. And the people they hired to man both – good grief. I think they culled the depths of Sociopaths ‘R’ Us. Unhelpful. Snooty. Impatient. Rude. The former owner of the Greeley Tai Chi Academy, now defunct, used to frequent that hole. He met his future wife there, who worked the bookstore. Sociopaths, both. She was convinced she was the Second Coming of Hemingway, Fitzgerald, and Kafka all rolled into one, and he was certain he was Bruce Lee. Their coupling, I suppose, was inevitable. And so was their divorce. Margie’s was the vile petri dish for those two strains of mold to meet. It was absolutely perfect in that capacity. The coffee was so-so, at best. The food was third-rate on a good day. I really, really hope that’s changed over these many years, but judging by the reviews below, I’d have to say no. Too, the damn place closed early back then, and it apparently does now. Lame. Like one reviewer commented below, Margie’s wouldn’t stand a chance in Boulder. Hell, it wouldn’t stand a chance in friggin’ Sterling! You see, it’s in Greeley, where right-wing extremists rule all and the air smells of Clorox mixed with blood mixed with formaldehyde. Yum. There was a numbnuts there named Ron – not the owner, but a regular customer. He was there so often that he was called«Coffee Ron.» He and his other gray-hairs used to hold forth with their brownshirt rah-rah-rah hate politics. I left him a lovely poem on the bathroom chalkboard(yes, for some idiotic reason there was – is? – a chalkboard in the bathroom) the day I moved to San Diego. Look. It’s been thirteen years. I get it. Maybe the sociopaths have all dispersed, and maybe Margie’s has improved, has become more liberal, less snobby and snooty, more helpful, and with better joe and treats. If I see such is so with decent enough reviews telling me so, I’ll take this review down. Fair? But until then, I’ll leave it up. Margie’s, along with a number of soulless fucks from that general vicinity, left me for dead back then, and I have not and will not ever forget it. This review is the least, by a mile, I can do to pay that little shop of horrors back.

Great place to sit and chat or do work. Solid coffee, good tea, cheerful staff and delicious pumpkin bread. During the summer they also have a nice patio. I had stayed for a few hours to do work a few times and was never bothered or felt unwelcome. really great place

I love their coffee and it’s wonderful every time! The staff is usually really nice and friendly, but sometimes you get the occasional worker that isn’t that trilled to be there. But overall it’s a great little coffee shop right near UNC, and I would recommend it to anyone

Margies is a great place to meet someone and have a great time in Greeley. The coffee is delicious and slightly overpriced(like most coffee shops) great atmosphere and I love!

NOT where i’d like to spend my time. I believe the only people who come back here are the people who are ‘going to school’ but usually end up here instead of class. Most will probably end up drawing pictures in the latte foam with their $ 50,000 degree. Woman, I believe is an owner or manager, once answered the phone while helping me and was extremely rude to whomever was on the other line–«Whatever i don’t want what you’re selling.» I understand sales calls happen, but be professional! Also, coffee often tastes burnt, garbage is left unclear on tables.

2012 Review #48: The only thing this place is is convenient. As a music student, it is an easy distraction, as it’s about one block away. In essence, though, this place *thinks* it’s the Boulder coffeeshop of Greeley. In some ways, I suppose it is, but it wouldn’t last very long in anywhere with coffeeshop competition, like Boulder or the Highlands. There’s not much to say about a coffee shop. They use Allegro coffee, which isn’t my favorite. They have a couple standard roasts and a «Flavor Flav» of the day, but none are very good. The service is mostly college kids, and college dropouts, but they make sure to screen them for really crappy attitudes before hiring them. Lots of attitude without much service. They make some interesting sandwiches, one has turkey, cream cheese and jam among other things. They also sell pre-made cookies, snacks, burritos, etc. but again they don’t make any of it. One aspect that I like is that they sell locally made art and there will sometimes be some University students providing music. The other thing that makes this place obviously not your typical, desirable coffee shop, is that they close at 6:00 pm. Talk about not being a hang-out place. It just ads to Greeley’s lack of hangout places after 5 pm that aren’t bars. Honestly I think the only reason this place is still in business is because it’s connected to the only University bookstore, and it’s the definition of convenience.

I’ve had some good times at Margie’s. Well, the two times I’ve been there have been good ones. Two free refills on coffee in house. Good cheap food. Old townies reading newspapers and playing chess. Smattering of cute grad students studying. Lots of character. Makes me feel like I’m in college again. Good old Greeley.

this is the only place in greeley to get a real cup-a-coffee. years ago they had a plastic baby in the floor, i think its gone now. that sucks. still, greeley is pretty lame in general, but margies gives it a little steet cred. way to go.
