Traveling alone, I’m often wary of local bars as I’m afraid of the«you’re not from around here» vibe that can be translated as anything from hostility to curiosity. However, I needed to kill some time in Great Bend and Charlie’s Place offered the best way to do that in the evening. I was pleasantly surprised on all fronts– the bar had reliable wifi and no one seemed to care that I was camped out in a corner with my computer. Draughts of Boulevard were only 2.75 and the bartenders were genuinely friendly, even coming over to my table to check on me occasionally. I’d definitely stop in again if I was in the area.

Every time we come to Great Bend we definitely make it to Charlie’s. Great bartenders and the drinks are always reasonably priced. Jesse and Jennifer

If you are in Great Bend, this is a place to hit, even if it’s just to the see the mostly naked poster of Burt Reynolds in the women’s bathroom. Retro 70’s awesomeness! Anyways, on to the bar, they have cheap beer(domestics) most of the time and their well drinks are $ 2.75 all the time. They have only a few non-domestic options, but fair enough for central Kansas. I like the kitschy atmosphere, and they have pretty good specials most nights.

This is a great home-town bar. The drinks are super cheap and they have live music on Friday nights. I was only there on Friday, during the holidays, but if my experience is the norm(which I have been assured it is), you should get there early to grab a table or a spot at the bar, because it will be standing– room only as the night progresses. Also, the bar serviec is incredibly fast for as busy as they are, so I advise just heading to the bar, instead of waiting for table service.
