Closed for good; driven out by a rent increase. Owners retreated to their original location in Winsted, Ct.

Maybe the worst dining experience of my entire life in my home town. No food after an hour and a half. One round of drinks. Waiter disappeared. Left without dinner and got a snotty response from the wait staff. Steer clear of this disaster.

The restaurant advertises hours Thurs –Sunday from 12PM. We showed up with 6 people at 12:20PM on Sunday Oct 25th and the place was locked, dark, and no notice on the door. Very unprofessional. Too bad, we liked the place last time but if they don’t have respect for their customers, shame on them. We went to Aegean Breeze down the road, best Greek food we ever had.

No mention on their website — no sign on restaurant — they’re closed! I called their Ct place — they tell me «they’re on vacation til Tues» — not acceptable– no excuse — if that’s what they think of their clientele they can do without me!!! No stars!!! But seems I couldn’t post unless I tapped one Went to our favorite– Prairie Whale — the place was packed but got a place at the bar — lively conversation & of course wonderful food & great service– one of the best in the Berks!

This was good Italian fare, if predictable. Nothing spectacular among the dishes the four of us had. Very friendly and responsive wait staff.

Mario’s is only a couple of steps away from an excellent dining experience. Their food is very good Italian, with reasonable prices. Their calamari puttanesca is one of my favorite calamari dishes in the area, and their veal and pastas are also worth a try. The service is one or two steps below their food. You almost never get great service, so the problem may be in the training. We’re ice cream fans and with SoCo Creamery a few steps away, we have never tried their deserts. Overall, if you are in the area and in the mood for Italian this is a good stop.

Completely over priced for the quality of food being served. The service is also subpar.

I had a great experience here! Right in the heart of Great Barrington it is a higher level of dining for the area. Really delicious Italian food– I had the shrimp scampi. The service was great and I personally loved the décor. The location is great, lends itself well to an after dinner stroll down Main Street. A date, anniversary, date night — it was a really great experience and generous portions!

The service was incredibly slow. The hostess and our waitress showed about as much enthusiasm as a person waiting to get a root canal. The food was mediocre, but with a high price tag. The neighboring restaurants were packed with people, obviously they knew the good places to dine.

We finally checked out Mario’s for lunch on July 4 when all the other Great Barrington restaurants were overflowing. I had Tuscan salad with chicken and my wife had the spinach salad with salmon. Both were excellent — and huge. The space is attractive and comfortable. We will be back for dinner.

One of the nice things about restaurants in Great Barrington and the Berkshires is that they typically reflect the attitudes of the region — wholesome food prepared with creativity and care, comfortable and laid back atmospheres and servers who are professional and straight forward. Mario’s has a policy that completely ignores the local vibe — if you’re dining at one of the outdoor tables with a dog, there’s a $ 2 charge for water for the pup. Really?!?

BF and I came here to try the new place in town. We ordered the lobster ravioli for him and the shrimp scampi for me. We both really enjoyed our orders. The ravioli was fresh and the scampi was really good as well. The décor is also really nice. This would be a good place to bring someone on a date.

Very good food. Really nice ambiance and good service. If it wasn’t a little chilly we would’ve liked to sit outside. I do appreciate how they have a really nice outdoor eating area and nice indoor seating sections too. I would recommend going there for a nice dinner. Prices are pretty good too for what you get.

Stopped in for a quick lunch late Friday afternoon and were glad we did. Bloody Mary was great, crab cakes were epic and capresse salad was wonderful. The location could not be better with a wonderful, unobstructed view down Railroad St. We ate in the bar area which was cozy and inviting. Since they were slow, the owner came out of the kitchen to chat with us. Overall great experience. Much thanks!

Just awful. Ordered out and found a course black hair in my blonde fiancé’s penne vodka. My chicken parm was just mediocre. Had we been at the restaurant I would have sent the food back. Instead we ended up throwing everything out. Quickest $ 60 I ever spent. There are tons of fantastic restaurants in the Berkshires. Mario’s needs to step up their game if they want repeat customers.

In comparison to what is available in the area, this is a neighborhood gem! Love the food! The ribeye I ordered was done to perfection! We strolled in at 9:30pm, got a meal that kicked butt! I was a happy camper!

This is really a review in two parts: a –5 for the wait, and a 5 for the food. They don’t take reservations for fewer than five people, but they really should as, per the assistant manager’s own comments, the kitchen can’t keep up when they have the floor and patio open as they did on this beautiful summer night. We arrived at 7:05 and were told the wait was 20m. Fine. We were sat at 7:45 and our food did not arrive until 9:17. Yes by this time I was counting. While our waiter provided us with a free glass of wine as a means of apology, this wait was abysmal. There was no reason for it and no excuse. They didn’t even have enough bread ready to feed a hungry floor. Staff was apologetic but insisted there was nothing they could do. That said, the salmon puttanesca(not on the menu, but a silent option) was delicious as was the fried calamari appetizer. While the food was delicious, I wouldn’t waste three hours of a long weekend here again until they fix the service.

Made reservations on a Friday night at 8 pm. We were seated right away, and really enjoyed the ambiance. The décor was modern and comfortable, very refreshing. Service was quick and friendly. Food took a little long to come out, but we enjoyed our time socializing. I ordered the Chicken Parmesan, which was cut thin and had the perfect amount of sauce and cheese! Well cooked and tasty. Everyone else enjoyed their meals, and the prices were good! Definitely will be back!
