Alright, right off the bat, this place has a weird setup and atmosfeel. It was late at night when me and my fraternity bros came here after our retreat at Camp Hi-Rock. I might have been seeing things, but their arrangement involved booths for 2 – 6 people surrounding what I assumed to be a kitchen area. The barriers around this kitchen area were mirrored. It was just so weird. The lighting was uneven, with most of the two-person booths only receiving ambient lighting. Our waitress was a little off(she forgot to pick up our menus) and served drinks out of order, but she was patient and nice. The prices are a little up there, definitely not a place you’d hit up often. I ordered the pretzel bun bacon burger(or something like that) with no cheese. It was an interesting sandwich and tasted pretty good. The regular fries sucked(tasted like frozen), although my bros enjoyed their waffle fries. To finish things off, I had a single cone of strawberry ice cream(why not?) It was really good ice cream, comparable to haagen daaz. I didn’t regreat the extra calories. I guess the food is okay, overall. But seriously, remodel the place!

Friendly’s is a great environment for the average college student, who can’t pay much but can certainly eat a lot. The food is cheap, reasonably fast, relatively varied, and the restaurant has specials that change every once in a while and include a discounted ice cream. Although it’s a far cry from health food, the menu does include salads and soups if a diner becomes tired of the selection of burgers, sandwiches, fish specials, fries, and chicken baskets. The ice cream, milkshakes and«Fribbles» — Friendly’s specialty blend of ice cream and milkshake — are an excellent end to any meal, or enough to just be a treat on their own. The waitstaff is usually prompt and friendly, and the restaurant is rarely crowded. Unlike other area Friendly’s, it is rarely filled with many young children.

While Friendly’s isn’t exactly a cultural icon of food, it works well when you’re on a college budget. Or does it? Well, we thought it did — until one night when sitting at a corner booth, one of my friends put salt on her fries and out came bugs — lots of them. All over. If there are bugs in the salt — where else are they hiding? After seeing that none of us could finish our meals/ice creams. We spoke to the manager and when we asked that our meal be comped as we could no longer think about eating — he told us he would bring new fries. NEWFRIES? We didn’t even want the food any more after seeing that! It took about 45 minutes of negotiations to have our meal comped as we weren’t going to pay for infested food. Shoulda tried the dollar menu :|
