The waiter was great, reccommended a good wine from Basilicata, the water was good, nice napkins. Too bad those are the high points. Bruschetta was an old pizza with beets, in short it wasn’t Bruschetta. 5 in our party, 5 different dishes and 5 failures. My warm meal should have been a hot meal. The chefs could not make a simple pasta with tomato sauce, then could not make an even simpler oil and garlic sauce. A chef should not be someone that defrosts and microwaves food, they are supposed to cook. Stop hiring chefs away from Dennys.

I’ve just moved here from the Bay Area. Went to this restaurant for the first time to celebrate a family’s member birthday. Italian family. I was the only VEGAN in the group, so, when I asked for any pasta with ONLY tomato sauce, our waiter, which was great, Silvano came back to our table very embarrassed and told us that CHEF did not want to do it. So, I asked for any kind of pasta just with olive oil and garlic. One more time, our waiter came back to our table(even more embarrassed than the first time) saying that CHEF refused again. So, I explained to the waiter that I am vegan, and there was no option for me on the menu. So, my waiter came back and said that CHEF offered to prepare grilled vegetables with linguine. I accepted it.(Pasta Primavera) I give 5 stars to our waiter, Silvano, which was really attentive, and I really could see the embarrassment on his face when he came to our table twice to let us know the CHEF refused to prepare us a dish. Honestly, I felt super bad for the waiter. I have been going to Italian places for years, pizzerias and restaurants, in San Francisco, and in the Bay Area and I have never had a problem having only spaghetti with tomato sauce, spaghetti with garlic and olive oil, or even a pizza without the cheese! Even if they did not have these dishes on the menu. Never had any problem being the only vegan in the group. All the Italians places were more than willing to make any of these two options for me. What Italian restaurant would not prepare just pasta and tomato sauce, or a pasta with aglio and olio? Never going back with my Italian’s relatives. Letting all my friends now about this experience. To VEGANS: This is NOT a vegan friendly place. 5 stars to Silvano, he was a great waiter during this whole painful process(and not friendly CHEF.) And all my Italians relatives said that food was not good and my stomach hurts…

Make sure to check your bill closely for accuracy. We got a phone call from the hostess after we had left. who then put me hold for our waiter, who then told me he’d forgotten to charge us for a $ 27 bottle of wine… this after I left a $ 30 tip on the $ 90 bill. I felt was unprofessional

We were able to get in on a Friday night without a reservation, but I recommend you make a reservation because I think we got lucky. We really loved everything about eating here. We love the historic building which houses the restaurant, learning about the Milanese employees and Chef, and, of course, the food. My husband had the fresh handmade pappardelle with tomato bacon cream sauce, which was exquisite. My crespelle were also very well made. The salad was flawless, the bread was wonderful, the dipping sauce was tasty, and the key lime pie for dessert is not to be missed. Great meal! Our favorite on this trip to Nevada County.

We were here for a wedding. This restaurant is s gem. We spent 2weeks in Italy trying all sorts of food, so know what true Italia food tastes like. This restaurant is truly authentic Italiano food. The food was fantastic, restaurant was unique and the chef is down to earth friendly. I’m definitely coming back here.

This place is absolutely delicious. Everything we ordered was fabulous and had strong attention to detail. I suggest the caprese salad and the lasagne. Ask for a gentleman named Silvano. He is amazing at his job and cares deeply about what he does.

Having read other reviews I wonder if there are two chefs and we were there on the wrong night(last Friday). Our group ordered six different things and we all had expected the food to be better. My «sushi grade» ahi was mushy and there was a membrane in part of it that made it difficult to cut. On the other hand the ambiance was very nice and the service was excellent.

A disappointing Valentines dinner. Might have been unlucky with our visit considering the positive reviews we’ve read. Long wait for our reserved table, inattentive wait service, over an hour wait between salad and main course, tough steak, bland seafood. Wonderful location and nice ambiance. Loved the cream of mushroom soup and the Key Lime Pie nearly made up for all of our disappointment!

To another reviewer? It’s veal. Ossobuco is veal shank, not lamb shank. Just sayin’. Maybe if you got that straight you’d be able to write a better review. Or not. As for our experience? We had a wonderful meal. The ossobuco(which is veal) was impeccable, as was the risotto which accompanied it. I started my meal with the Bresaola, which was outstanding. And they don’t skimp on the portions here. Took the waiter’s wine suggestion for the Mon Ross Barbera d’Asti and it was delicious. My partner had the ravioli of the day, and the nummy noises from across the table were witness enough that he was enjoying every bite. For dessert, I had the panna cotta — heavenly — and he had the Key Lime pie. Every bite of the meal was *outstanding*. The service was warm and welcoming, and both the head waiter and the chef were happy to chat, to answer questions, and to share their enthusiasm. Some people may find this intrusive. I find it really adds to the experience, but I’m an ambitious home cook, and have the time of my life when a chef is happy to share recipes and technique(not to mention a couple of glasses of wine that showed up on our table, «to try».) Our table was right by the coffee/bar/kitchen, and we will always want that table, even if we have to wait for it. We recently bought a home in nearby Penn Valley, where we will eventually retire. This has definitely become our favorite restaurant in Grass Valley, and we look forward to many more wonderful meals and good times here. Amazing food, amazing service, wonderfully Italian.

We are from the Bay Area and have eaten at so many places, high and low. This beautiful Italian place in Grass Valley was one of my favorite places I’ve ever experienced. The food was good. The restaurant is an old Victorian tastefully refurbished. The service was absolutely impeccable. We loved it.

Amazing food, owner is the chef so he cares about the food. We went there family of four on thanksgiving day, one star just for being open for thanksgiving dinner. One more star for the cozy environment and over all feel of the restaurant. Two stars for the food every dish was awesome(I had the veal, yumm). One more star for good service on a very busy thanksgiving night. It was our first thanksgiving away from family but the listed it reasons above made it wonderful and memorable. Just so you know, it cost over $ 160 for four of us with dessert and two people split a dish. Be ready to pay up for your meal, but be ready for an amazing treat.

Been let down more than once on over cooked lamb shank and chop. Is your lamb frozen? 4th time at Milano and each time has been worse than the first. I really wanted to like this place, but looks like back to the ghetto Safeway nearby for Mac and cheese. Most annoying part by far is the 50+ year old head waiter. Stop talking please. For the sake of everyone, stop. Why are you so frazzled on a Tuesday night? 2nd time in a row you are taking away from our experience. We are local and want to come back but will not for a while. Milano owners! 1. Hire another server to help. 2. Have a chat with over chatty waiter. 3. Why do we have to ask for bread? 4. Take lamb off the menu if you are going to butcher it. Seriously! «Bahhhhhhhhhhh!»

Wow! This place was amazing! Best food I’ve had in a long time. Everything we had was awesome! The Osso Bucco was fantastic, and the Panna Cotta was the best I’ve ever had!!! But the best part was being serenaded for my birthday in Italian!

We came here for my moms birthday. It was a Great experience, the food was really delicious and came out quickly. The service was some of the best I’ve had in town. Our server even sang a song in Italian to the birthday girl, which of course made her day. The only downside was the noise level… It was almost impossible to hear the person sitting across the table and everyone was yelling in order to have a conversation. Next time we will go on a weekday

Fiancé and I had dinner here while doing a weekender in Grass Valley. Housed in a romantic Victorian the décor is old world charm reminiscent of a lovely bygone era. Delicious warm bread. Comes with a tomato chutney. I requested oil and balsamic which came to our table in a jiffy. The small Cesare salad was crisp, with excellent dressing. Although I ordered a small size, the portion was enough to cover 2 people if you do not have a large appetite. I had the grilled prawns with risotto. Prawns were cooked perfectly, the red sauce was light and tasty, green beans were good. 4 stars for those items, Risotto was average, a 3 star endeavor. My fiancé had the Seafood Stew. He loved all the fresh fish, rating the dish as a winner at 5 stars. We ended our meal with the Key Lime Pie. 4 stars. The wait staff was good, very attentive.

I hadn’t visited this restaurant in the 2.5 years since it changed ownership, and boy was I in for a wonderful surprise! This beautiful Victorian house had previously been home to an Italian eatery that was notable for exquisite décor and lack-luster food, but under it’s new ownership the food is every bit as sublime as the surroundings. Every aspect of our meal, which spanned 4 courses and two different wines, was a delight, and the prices were very reasonable. As always, whether you sit in the house or on the patio, you will be treated to a beautiful experience, and the staff was warm, attentive, and helpful. Truly a wonderful meal in a fabulous spot — I’ll be back soon!

Best pasta I’ve ever experienced in the United States. After my travels throughout Italy, I thought that I’d never find a bowl of pasta in the states that was prepared as well. I was wrong! The food here is simply amazing.

My husband and I, along with my daughter and her husband, dined here on Valentine’s Day evening. This was our first time coming to Trattoria Milano, and it will not be our last. We have a home in this area and know most of the local restaurants, and this was by far one of our most memorable dining experiences. Not only were we pleased with the quality and freshness of the food, but the presentation was wonderful, and the atmosphere was warm and cozy in this quaint converted Victorian home. All of the staff was attentive and professional. This could not have been easy because for the two+ hours that we were there, every table was taken. Although the tables are fairly close together, the noise level was not so high that I could not hear or converse with my spouse and daughter. Every dish that we ordered was superb. We have traveled extensively throughout Italy several times, and I don’t remember having a meal that we enjoyed more. I did not expect to find this quality of Italian food in my own backyard. My main course was the Zuppa di Pesce, which was chock full of seafood. No skimping on the scallops, calamari, shrimp or mussels and the broth was not too tomatoey, just as I like it. This was a very ample portion, and I actually ended up taking some home and having it the next morning for breakfast! One of the other stand out dishes was the appetizer polenta with Gorgonzola and mushrooms, again an ample enough portion for an appetizer. The flavors melted together perfectly and the polenta was creamy with good texture. We all liked sampling it so much that my poor daughter who ordered it, ended up with a mere bite or two! Some of the other dishes we had included the Caesar Insalata, which although the lettuce was fresh with plenty of cheese, the dressing did not have nearly as much of an anchovy flavor for me, but then I am a lover of anchovies. We also had the risotto which was done perfectly, not too al dente, but not too soft either, and the risotto had soaked up the flavors as expected. We did not experiment with the different desserts, since we all love Tiramisu. It was quite good, but for my preference, too creamy and not dense enough nor with a strong enough of a liqueur flavor. Speaking of alcohol, the wine list offered a good selection and at quite reasonable prices. We started with a Proseco, at a reasonably priced $ 28. We also brought our own special bottle of wine and the corkage fee was a reasonable $ 15. I think because we showed a strong interest in Italy, some of the foods we found similar on our travels, and the chef’s background, we were asked if we would want a song with our dinner. Of course… go for it. One of our waiters came out and sung in a beautiful voice for about a minute which sealed this as an ever– so-special experience. The only thing I can think of that was missing was: where oh where can we find decent gelato? I know, it requires a ticket to Italy.

Man I am on the fence in whether I want to out 3 or 4 stars. This place was very cute and the waiters and hostesses were very professional, informative, and nice. There are a few reasons why I placed a 3: I felt that being new comers we were a little less taken care of. There were a few people who when they requested for more bread it was out quicker(idk why u said quicker… we never got ours lol) and they were asked for Parmesan the instant their meal was provided. I was halfway through my meal before being asked. I felt we were more over forgettable which wasn’t a nice feeling especially when my BF was trying to take me somewhere nice and quaint for dinner after a long days work. On the positive note my meal was very good, I tried the al fruitti dish(see below pictures) I felt it had the right amount of flavors and satisfied my seafood craving. Again the waiter was very knowledgeable on the meals as well as what wine complimented each meal. I wouldn’t mind coming here again…
