Such good food! We took dad there for Father’s Day, and had a fantastic meal. We ordered drinks, I recommend the hard orange soda, and the nachos special with pulled pork. We also got the Father’s Day special entrée of prime rib, which was juicy and delicious. The owner personally brought us our food too. Everything was so tasty and spot on for the special day.

Not sure what happened. We don’t eat out often so doing so with our large family is a bit of a big deal. Dining in at Smiley Guys had never been an issue. This evening we were meeting our teenage daughter at home separately so decided to grab it to go.
We ordered half brisket/​half pulled pork, triple French fries, and cornbread muffins. Price is always right and food is always good. But tonight we got someone else’s cornbread muffins. Undoubtedly all four had been picked at or eaten off of and ditched. I looked for crumbs to indicate they had come apart in the bag and alas, very little crumbs to be found. I have to change my rating for Smiley Guys. I came in with my family Sunday afternoon. We ordered mac n cheese, fries, salad, corn bread and the special. The special was a chicken cob salad for 11.99. They notified me after ordering that they were out of blue cheese and avacado. I should have changed my order but didn’t. The chicken was advertised as smoked and unfortunately was old and dry. Two of our three glasses were dirty. One glass had lipstick on it and the other had dried food. I’ve had good meals here before. The staff is great.

Years ago, when they first opened, this place was OK. But things have changed. We have pretty much quit going to Smiley Guys because the good is do hut and miss. But my daughter was at dance class right next door, and we’re hungry and tired, so I decided to grab dinner for me and the kids. Big mistake. I ordered two kids meals. Plus a pulled pork sandwich and died of Cajun fries for myself. We got home and pulled the good out of the bag, and I realized they gave me three kids meals. I got a three inch sandwich for dinner. No Cajun fries. I have tried every bbq sauce on their sauce bar now, and they are all terrible. I would rather have sauce from a jar. Plus I did not have one French fry longer than 2 inches. I will never go back to this place. Too many bad experiences and not enough good ones. I’m done with with this place.

Had a great meal here, the wings were fire. So many sauces to choose from. The brisket sandwich was damn good, but not the best I’ve had. The staff was cool and the beer selection, specifically IPAs. Would definitely return !

So disappointed! It smells so good… Ordered a platter but you can’t get a platter with ribs… Ok, chicken and tri-​tip… COLD… Went to get sauce. Terrible! Beans, no flavor, potato salad, no flavor. I asked for two kids for the left over sides, the girl says, we have a to go station over tger… Points. I go over, no lids! I went back to the counter, she appears very put out, gets me 1 lid. I asked for two… Now she’s really not thrilled with me… As she is refilling the station, she hands me a lot. Took almost five minutes for a couple of lids. The only reason for one star, the patio, darts, pool table… I won’t be back. I cook so much better. Hell, Dicky’s is better!

Just moved to the area and found Smiley Guys on Unilocal.We went for a late lunch and left impressed. Meat options were great. Service was fantastic. Will definitely come back again!

Always stop here when here on business for lunch. The food is always delicious and freshly prepared. The menu is a little pricey, but that is normal for bbq places. I have always enjoyed what I have ordered from their very varied menu selection. The service is prompt and efficient.

Super nice staff and great atmosphere how ever the bbq sauce’s (all of them) are awful. The food was not par at all and I will never go back ever. Every single item I ordered was awful. I mean the brisket, trip tip, and ribs were edible but I have had better at back yard bbq’s. I wish the owner would let me come in there and whip up some good sauces for the place and show him how to season his meats.

Really more of a 2.5 star. I like this place, they have a good beer selection and the employees are very nice. The problem is that it’s just not that great of BBQ, which is supposed to be their specialty. It’s never been horrible, though it’s never been mind blowing. It is just Meh.

Sadly BIG disappointment! Food cold! Flavor questionable? Spice selection was missing! Mac and cheese? Watery! Beans taste like nutmeg only spice? Smoke house/​beer? Maybe if u drink enough u can forget the experience! Hard earned money wasted? Owner should seriously take time to taste what they are selling? Could be great if cooks tasted their food prior to serving!

I recently was at a wedding in Nevada city, and for brunch the next day we were given pulled pork with 3 different sauces… the pork was smokey, just right out of the fire, fresh, moist and perfectly soft… if you think that is good, add some of their bbq and habanero sauce and it becomes mouth watering! I wish I lived closer to be able to endure the gracious flavors this smokehouse brings.

I don’t want to bang on them too hard but the pulled pork was dry and over cooked/​smoked, the ribs had a great sauce but we’re way too fatty, How do you screw up cornbread when you are a BBQ spot? The beer menu was great too bad I didn’t have one. My girl stated the hibiscus cider rocked. It was not worth the $ 45.00 and we won’t be back.

Great brisket and tri-​tip! Tender and full of smoky goodness. Some staff are super friendly but a few are not really interested in customer service. Sauces are outstanding! I can’t decide which was my favorite. They were all delish. My only complaint about the food is the mac n’ cheese: not much flavor and more mac than cheese.
Definitely a place to stop anytime I’m in the area!

Late Review. I visited Smiley Guys Smokehouse in December of 2014.
I was in Grass Valley for the Nevada City Christmas Festival and was looking for a place to eat that wasn’t fast food or a chain restaurant. Unilocal helped us find Smiley Guys Smokehouse.
Fun place. Lots of activities. Group near us was playing a board game and in the back of the restaurant it was trivia night.
The pulled pork was delicious. The Smokehouse has lots of different BBQ sauces and I sampled all of them. Great sides too. Everything was fresh and hot and the service came with a smile. I don’t remember the servers anme but I could tell he was genuinely proud of the food he was offering.
If I’m in Grass Valley again I’ll be back!
