We drove here as an «adventure» drive and my wife wondered what I had gotten her into when we pulled in. It was outstanding! Great people, great food, just a wonderful experience. My wife ate every crumb of her chicken salad sandwich(she seldom eats a whole meal). I had the bacon, cheese apple burger that came with applesauce, who would have thought? It was excellent!

We go to this cozy little diner for the Happy Apple burgers that come with apple sauce. Plus, the onion rings are fantastic. The BLT as well as the paddy melt are also delicious. I’ve had the apple shake, which isn’t really my thing, but my hubby and family really enjoy it. This place is always busy, but there’s ample seating. The outdoor seating is lovely on good days, in which you have a good view of the orchard.

This place is adorable. Have tried it on 3 separate occasions. My husband is s fan of the onion rings. I love the sandwiches. My sister in law loved the Ortega burger. We all love the pies. I’m ordering a couple for thanksgiving for sure!

I’ll give this one a 3.5…the area is nice, the service was good. The food was pretty good too. Nice little side of the road diner. I can see why it’s popular amongst the locals. P. s. Buy a pie… they’re great.

My sister and I stopped in for lunch. The service was great, the whole staff worked as a team. I had a hotdog, which was not on the menu, but it should be, it was the best hotdog I have ever had! Super cute place, I can’t wait to go back.

We drive 30 miles to Happy Apple JUST for the pie– I couldn’t tell you what else is on the menu because I don’t want to spoil my appetite for dessert! Any and all of them are the best on the planet– we’ll each have a piece and take a pie home.

This was a perfect lunch for my family. We sat on the back patio, ate great food, and the kids got to run around the area and see the fruit growing. The Happy Apple turkey sandwich with fresh applesauce was great, but the fresh pie for dessert was to die for. Our family will make this a tradition any time we are in town!

Been going here for lunch ever since I was old enough to eat solid food! I stop by every time I’m in town. I love their apple shake, BLT sandwich, onion rings, and every flavor pie they offer!

We stopped for lunch today and discovered what other reviewers have written is true. The Happy Apple Kitchen is neat and clean both inside and out on their patio. The luncheon menu has lots of tasty sounding options. My wife enjoyed a delicious cup of home made barley vegetable soup and a scrumptious ½ Veggie sandwich. I had an Ortega hamburger and french fries and didn’t leave a crumb of either. We shared a slice of Apple-Caramel-Pecan pie with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, yummy! As an earlier reviewer wrote, «Its a good thing thing I don’t live closer.» We agree, but we will come back. How can we go wrong when the employees greet nearly every person coming in the entrance by first name! Give The Happy Apple Kitchen a try and see if you agree with we contented reviewers.

They have delicious chicken avocado sandwiches, I got pesto on mine because it was the special, but I think without pesto is better. Their peach shakes in July are amazing!!! I could have drank two easy, but I just had one. There are chunks of fresh peaches and the shakes are nice and sweet. The inside dining is a bit crowded, but there is plenty of space outside to eat. Their restrooms are located outside in the back. They also have a fresh produce store out front where you can buy local produce. I got a strawberry rhubarb pie, which I don’t normally get, and it was a bit too sweet/tangy for me. I would definitely recommend going here for lunch/dinner or a sweet treat! The girls are helpful and efficient.

Its a good thing we don’t live here. The pies in this place are just too good! We split a strawberry-rhubarb(heated) with some vanilla ice cream(of course) after touring some local wineries. They actually stayed open late because we didn’t realize they closed at 4PM on weekends! I can’t speak for any other food items, but the restaurant was nice & tidy, as was the counter and kitchen area. The service was also excellent! Next time we’re here I’m trying another piece of another pie… after a hike a few more miles!

I have since been to this restaurant numerous times in the past three years of living here, and I have to say, it’s really, really good. At first, I was not a fan. After coming several different times and having different food items from the menu, including their delicious pies, I have to write an update. The staff here is always super friendly and attentive, and the food is always hot and fresh. It seems like they have either updated the menu or added some new things since my prior review, either way, it’s a really nice place to go. I recommend it!

This place is great. You get exactly what you expect here, good quality food and friendly service consistently. It’s just a simple, unpretentious, roadside burger restaurant in the country. I’m not really a ‘regular’ at any place, but this is perhaps one of the places I go most often since I live right down the road. I like to sit on the back porch and drink Arnold Palmers, especially when the blossoms are still on the apple trees out back. The home made pies, muffins, and other treats are one of the things that makes this place great. I like the Ortega Turkey melt, the Chicken Croissant, the Tuna melt, and they make good burgers too. The farm stand is up and running now. They have apple butter, honey, fruits and vegetables that are grown right there at the farm; great produce and plants for sale.

When it comes to roadside businesses, Happy Apple Kitchen is a place where great memories are made! The location is beautiful, the setting inside is inviting, the service is friendly and the food is fabulous. Stopped here for pie and ice cream during a recent trip — the third time we’ve visited but the first time in 10+ years — and it was just as good as we remembered. Wish we’d come for lunch, the food looked great(and the shakes looked unbelievably good!). Two of us had apple pie and the other had peach. The crust, filling and overall taste was superb. And the service, well, we couldn’t have asked for better. On the way out we bought some cookies to take with us. They were just as good as they looked, and believe me, they looked great. I highly recommend this as a place to see and experience if you’re in the area.

Tiny roadside café out in the country, the interior of which feels like a cross between your grandma’s house and a log cabin. They sell fruit in season and pies/jams/etc. Only peaches were in-season on our visit today. Our burgers were solid and fresh, but with a somewhat mealy apple slice topping the structural toothpick. The Ore-Ida crinkle-fries were over-fried, but the(fresh) peach milkshake was awesome. Prices were very reasonable. Great family business — I wouldn’t make a special trip to eat here, but if I were to get hungry on the Colfax Highway between Colfax and Grass Valley again…

I absolutely love this place. Every time I come home I make a point to come here for at least one meal. If you can imagine a food with apple they have it, apply milkshakes, apple burgers… Yum! It’s especially fun during the fall when the orchards are open and the pumpkin patch is in full swing. They also have their pie and fruit stand open during fall. During the sprng all the apple trees are in bloom and the flowers make quite a scene. It’s super quaint and has that wonderful small town, homey feeling. Make sure to visit if your your a tourist or even a local.

Whoa… I don’t doubt they’ve used canned fruit in their pies, but all the fruit they use comes from their farms. Sometimes, in order to make cherry pie out of season, they may have to use their own canned cherries, which obviously preserve well. I’ve actually had the fresh fruit milkshakes here and the sandwiches and think this restaurant is REALLY quaint. Unfortunately, it’s no where near me… I’ve tried it because I have a friend whose family owns a home very close by. In the couple times I’ve been, I’ve never had a bad experience with the food and the interior of the restaurant is very country, folksy, and cute. Of everything they have to offer, I highly recommend the fresh fruit milkshakes… killer!
