Nice comfortable space that often has live music on weekends. If you want a decent glass of wine with those tunes, you’re out of luck. What used to be a very good wine list has degenerated into cheap swill that I wouldn’t serve if you paid me. Their«good stuff» from Montpellier Winery is actually made by Bronco Wine, the same people who make Two Buck Chuck and they’re paying $ 5 a bottle for it. And to only have two wineries on a wine list? You can do better at a biker bar…

Place is fuggin dope! Underground speakeasy style lounge bar. Excellent staff and atmosphere, phenomenal crab cakes when in season. Huge! Huge selection of beer and great wine selection at a reasonable price. Chris was our bartender and was very patient and helpful while I couldn’t decide on what I wanted. Anyways stop in for a drink! Place is chill and no cover when they have bands

Friendly service. Tonight they close at 9 even though hours in Unilocal says 8. Like the ambiance. It is a few steps down in a brick walled basement. Have good selection of beer and wine. Met Dana the owner along with his wife who allowed us to stay through the end of the Warrior game.

Let’s start with the good… The space is amazing! It’s a tucked away location with lots of charm. Definitely a cozy spot to go sit and have a drink or two and conversation with a friend. And the selection of beers and wines is definitely more than sufficient! For this type of visit, I highly recommend it! Unfortunately, I DON’T recommend the space for events that need catering… Which it really would be amazing for! Reason being, they cater all of the events here themselves– the food, presentation and service are mediocre at best… When we had our event here, I had a horrendous time getting in contact with the owners about details while we were still in the planning process. I figured that it wasn’t the end of the world since we had started months in advance… But when it was the evening of, they were asking me questions on app choices, side options and the like while our guests were arriving! All of which I had made perfectly clear via email. The presentation was not at all appealing, passed apps were cold, dinner was late and I would swear that dessert was served minutes after thawing was complete from the box from Cosco. The bartender was rude and not the slightest bit helpful, pointing to the menu any time any questions were asked of any drinks with that being he extent of his explanation. On top of everything, I got calls/emails DAILY for a week after the event until they received their check in the mail(which was always the expected form and time frame for payment). I really, truly wished they hit a home run because I would’ve loved to support them and enjoy the facility in the future, but sadly, we will not be booking with them again.

I went to this spot because I had a coupon and wanted to check out spots in town with local beer. The beer selection was decent but everything else was odd, from the service to the décor(fake winery-ish). Definitely seemed more like a place my parents(in their 60’s) would hang out than me(in my 30’s). Probably won’t go back but had an okay experience.

Good food, seemed to have a great selection of beer and wine. Great laid back atmosphere. Comfortable couches and chairs. But overall we could have gone somewhere else for food and probably been happier. The long version: I met up with a friend and we decided to eat here and have a couple glasses of wine. While there was a waitress floating around it was unclear that we got menus from the bar and were supposed to order at the bar. Maybe we missed the sign. They seemed to have an excellent selection of beers and wine. We just had a couple glasses of risling and were not disappointed. When I asked the bartender what they had from Ol Republic he said it was written on the board, which was laid out and easy to read if you were on that side of the bar. It was a little disappointing that he didn’t know what they carried. When we asked for a Risling he went and got an unopened bottle and asked if that would be okay. Which again was slightly disappointing. I love bartenders who say things like«this is what we have but if you’re looking for something to go with what you ordered, here are some options». I ran into a friend who suggested that we go across the street to the Owl for food and I am almost sorry that we didn’t. The food was good, don’t get me wrong. But after sitting with our menus for 30 minutes waiting for the waitress who would never come to our table even though she was visiting other tables, we finally went and ordered at the bar where all food is ordered(don’t know why that wasn’t mentioned when we got menus). Burgers for $ 12? Or the crabcakes for $ 16? $ 12 for a salad? We went with the crabcakes. We both nursed our first glass of wine hoping it would make it to when food was brought. They didn’t. Took about 40 minutes to get our food which the chef brought out(where was the waitress? She had not even bussed the table next to us which had dirty glasses since before we sat down. We finally took the glasses to the bar since we had other people join our party). Great presentation. 2 palm sized crab cakes and a side salad. The crab was definitely there, but overall the crab cake was a bit spicy. Needed the salad and wine to even out the flavors. I felt that the flavor of the crab was overwhelmed. I like that they had a small manageable menu. I was disappointed that they didn’t have something more appealing than a salad for a hot summer night. All staff was friendly once approached. So, 3 stars because I was disappointed with things like the wait time, the bartender seeming to need a little more knowledge in what was on hand, food selection and price. They might get more food orders if they had more than jalapeño poppers for under $ 10. It’s nice to have a bar with good food in Nevada County so I hope they stick around!

There are not very many places that have a good quality craft beer selection. An obvious good taste in beer that are not your average grocery store beers and on tap! I have lived here many years and just came here fore the first time. Well worth it!

The environment and vibe is amazing. They have a great beer and wine menu with a ton of variety specializing in craft beer options. Dane and Michelle(owners) are wonderful providing options for beer and mixing different flavors. And they are open to suggestions of different breweries and varieties. We opted for the campfire stout with pumpkin ale which was beyond amazing. To top it all off, they created the menu and lead the kitchen themselves. If you want friendly staff, good beer and great service, 151 Union is the place to go!

My buddy and I stumbled upon this awesome basement style, very chill place. The owner was the bar tender and he was really friendly and knew a lot about the beers and wines. Im pretty sure they serve food, too, and there are many couches and chairs to kick back in, as well as a nice bar. The one thing I wasn’t too happy about was the fact that the pints were $ 9 each. The beer was very good, and I know rent cant be cheap in downtown GV, but other places in town charge about $ 5-$ 7 for the same styles of micro brews… Ill still pop in for a brew tho because he does have some great selections!

EXCELLENT craft beers and a very comfortable, homey atmosphere. Wednesdays and Fridays are their Karaōke nights so me and 2 others went up to visit and we had a blast! We all very VERY highly recommend this place! Also, they have a secret recipe slushee-like drink called the 151 Brain Freeze that is absolutely delicious, even as someone who normally prefers the darker beers! A little something for everyone!

I was in Grass Valley yesterday wine tasting with a date. We saw a sign in the window for wine tasting inside 151. It was a little after 5:00pm when we went in. It did not appear busy, there were some people inside, there were only two women at the bar and a band was just starting to set up. The bar is down stairs from street level, nicely decorated, large and spacious but was a little on the dim side. My date and I got to the bar and took at seat on some of the bar stools. It looked like they had four different vineyards that they pour for. We waited patiently for a few minutes watching an older man working as the bartender getting things situated behind the bar. He answered a question from one of the two ladies at the other end of the bar saying that her 16 year old daughter could come down to the bar as they served food which also made it a restaurant. My date and I were a little hungry, we got excited when we heard that. and we said to each other that maybe we should ask for a menu. When the bartender finally came over an asked what we wanted I asked about the wine tasting. He got agitated and harshly informed us that he does not normally do wine tastings after 5 and especially when he had a live band playing. We thanked him for his time and left. We went across the street to the Lucchesi winery tasting room who had live music, they told us they would be open until 9pm and were happy to do a wine tasting. The bartender at 151 was the only rude person we met working at a winery on Saturday. Perhaps 151 could include the wine tasting hours on their sign in the window? I will definitely go back to Grass Valley for more wine tasting, but I will pass on tasting at 151.

A friend and I were shopping and decided to pop into this bar? restaurant? The bartender had 2 young gals at the bar… entertaining them with info on whatever they were drinking. Not once did he EVER acknowledge our presence. After 5 minutes we left.

New owners are great and really engaging about the wine and beer selections. The pizza was delicious and the conversation was better. Combo pizza with no lead time took 20 minutes. Lots of appetizer choices but the beer selection is great. Glad to see this venue in good hands. Rich was great but there was food limitations. Now the food and drink flow freely and it is a definite plus for downtown grass valley. Great addition to the downtown arsenal of food and drink.

You gotta gotta try the 6 Rivers Raspberry beer! Or, try all the other amazing beers they offer. Like 17. The bistro menu is very diverse without going overboard. Don’t miss this charming and adorable place.

Looking forward to going back! Just tried the soup, but the menu looks really great. And the venue for lunch, drinks, or a corporate offsite is ideal. Oh, and I’ve got to get back for the wine tasting too.

I had my hubby’s surprise 30th birthday here and we had a blast! The venue itself is absolutely gorgeous. The lounge-y atmosphere had my guests sitting in comfy circles, talking and having fun. The beer selection was fabulous, of course, and the food, catered by Jim E was delicious! Rich was so accommodating, listened to my event planner and I on our many visits to the venue, allowed us to change the furniture to add a photobooth, and put up with a lot from our guests! Thank you so much, Rich! We had a great time!
