Tommy Tamale Market & Cafe

I’ve only had the hatch pork and the habanero tamales, but what I had has been wonderful.
Menu is great and the tamales are priced well, considering they’re already frozen for you and to go is just heat and eat.

Great place — staff is friendly and super helpful! Food is delicious! My son-​in-​law who is a tamale aficionado has claimed them the BEST! We will be back! Salsa is also a hit as is the chili. Can’t go wrong at Tommy Tamale!

When my husband and I first walked in we were a little confused on where to order but quickly a woman came and told us we were standing at the «to-​go» order location and needed to come to the side to eat in. The young woman who helped us was very helpful and nice, we had never been there and asked for her favorites. I went with a brisket quesadilla and my husband ordered the tamales. We also ordered Chips and Guacamole. The guacamole was good and we both really enjoyed the chips, they tasted homemade. The quesadilla was decent but we both enjoyed the tamale. We were very impressed by the staff, each person had some sort of pleasant exchange with us while we were there, it gave a very mom and pop feel and it was like we were all friends in their home, I enjoyed that. We also ordered 2 chocolate tamales for desert to try. My husband loved them but I tasted a lot of corn in it so it wasn’t my favorite– it was a really cool idea though.
This place is worth a try.

Hubby and I just ate here and so so so… So so good. If you’re in the mood for delish comfort food, this is it. I got the Tommy Bowl — two tamales, rice, queso sauce, pico all piled in a bowl. Amazeballs. Hubster got the tamale plate and got the pork habanero tamales and loved them. Also like that they have a little mini market inside with local hot sauces and snacks you can purchase. To top it all off, everyone that was there (including who I assume were the owners) was so nice and inviting. They even came by and gave us samples of their quesadilla. I’m in a tamale food coma, but will be back for sure. Oh! It’s byob, so if you’re boozers like us, bring adult beverages.

Great little place! As soon as you come in, they welcome you and ask if you’ve been here before. If you haven’t they tell you about the food. It’s a short and simple menu, but very delicious! Very clean restaurant. They also sell to go food and have lots of different hot sauces. I’ll b coming back if I’m in the area.

Customer service is incredible. Food is incredible.
Ask about their special hot sauce. It’s fire, but it’s delicious.

This is a new place and has a simple menu. (Which is much appreciated)
You can get tamales to go by the dozen or they also have another counter to order from to eat there. They have tamale plate, burrito, quesadillas, and my two favorites the Tommy bowl or tamale pie. The tamale pie is a Frito pie with tamales and queso on top. Excellent!
The Tommy bowl is similar but has rice instead of Fritos.
Try this place out. Very good! It will be one of our frequent lunch places.

Just came home after eating at Tommy Tamales for the first time. My husband and 89 year old mother dined in. I found this restaurant on Unilocal and knew that we needed to try it.
We were greeted at the door by the owner Steve and almost immediately felt like we were visiting family. We had the Tamale Frito Pie, Chicken Quesadilla and the Brisket Burrito plate. All were delicious! We have found our go to Tamale place and we will most definitely be back. I will be placing a Tamale order for pick up soon!
I want to personally thank Steve for being so sweet to my dear mom.

Best tamales in dfw. Extensive selection and great prices. If you dine in, get the tamale pie. This is a byob establishment which is awesome. Don’t forget to browse the selection of local hot sauces, snacks, etc. Always some great finds! Every time I’ve been, Tommy himself comes out to check on us and see how we’re enjoying ourselves. Great staff and atmosphere.

«Tommy bowl» I’m sooooo full! And soooo GOOD! And you can share with someone with the Tommy bowl because I sure didn’t finish it and it was a pretty big bowl.
The price is decent. If you check in you get a free drink.

Fantastic tamales!!! We had these for Christmas since I’d ordered them for a fundraiser. They were the hit of the holidays! We had the pork, chicken and black bean. Hard to say which was our favorite as they were all delicious!!! Last night I took a couple of friends to eat at the restaurant and I turned 2 more folks on to Tommy Tamale! And the service couldn’t have been more pleasant! The restaurant is BYOB and we took in our beer and they were so kind and iced it down for us. We then had 4 different tamales. All were sooooo wonderful! I picked up a new (new to me) flavor of BBQ, as well as pork and black bean. We can’t wait to try the BBQ. I’m so glad to know about Tommy Tamale. You guys are great and the tamales are the best I (and my South Texas family and North Texas friends) have ever had!!!

This place is amazing! We drove straight here from the airport because they come up in a gluten free search for nearby restaurants. The service was just amazing. Some of the kindest people we’ve ever met. We showed up right before they closed and they were patient with us and let us eat there even though they were closed. Now about the tamales. They were just delicious! Set the bar for tamales. The chicken we’re our favorite ones. We told them we loved them so much and ordered some to go so they gave us what was left over for the night. You have to try this place. Texas your hospitality is out of this world.

Tommy tamale is a little place inside a shopping center.
It’s hard to miss because it’s in the corner and the logo is a big red state of Texas… so…
The staff is the friendliest that you can imagine, I am pretty sure it’s a family business.
They offer delicious tamales for eating there or frozen to take home.
They have a lot more choices for the to-​go customer, but the ones that they offer to eat there are crowd pleasers, also they are not as greasy and heavy as regular tamales because there are not made with lard. Besides tamales, their restaurant menu includes: Tamale frito-​pie, nachos, tamale plater with rice and beans and other yummy things.
They also sell random groceries like Artisanal pasta, jelly, salsa etc.
My husband had the Tamale frito-​pie and he LOVED IT!
VEGETARIANS BEWARE:
The only item on the menu that is actually vegetarian is the black bean.
Don’t get the platter because the rice and beans are not veggie friendly. They were kind enough to tell me when I ordered.
ATTENTION UnilocalERS: If you «check in» they give you a free soda! F_​YEAH!

This place is my new addiction, particularly the «Tommy Bowl” – a big, hearty, comfort-​food-​y bowl of awesomeness layered upon two tamales of your choice. (I go for the habanero pork.)

So I’m in Grapevine visiting family and is see a tamale spot. Well this piques my appetite since I haven’t had a tamale in over a year. But I haven’t eaten meat in a awhile so I look for vegetarian tamale spot on Unilocal and Tommy Tamale pops up. I check out the menu and I’m blown by all the different options! The reviews are on point so I put in my order right on the Unilocal app through Eat24! So quick and super ridiculously easy. I check the updates and see that my order is almost ready so I go in. I am greeted cheerfully and then welcomed by the manager/​owner who is interested in my experience through Unilocal and Eat24.
But the best part was the food. I had to take a bite on the ride home because the anticipation just became too much and let me tell you it was so good! I had the black bean tamale, delicious. The cheese and jalapeño, delicious. The black bean and cheese, delicious. The sweet potato, the one bite I got in before the kiddos devoured it, delicious! Everything was so so good. Five stars well deserved!

Loved everything about this place. I got the Tommy bowl and it was soo good and filling. Everyone that works here is very nice and including the owner Tommy himself! Thank you Tommy Tamale, see you next time.

Local flavorful and zesty salsas, tamales, and good eats… I am digging this place! You can order big batches of tamales or come here for a sit down lunch. You can even take it to go. Love their chicken tamale meal that comes with the beans and rice. Just two really is enough! Although these bad boys are so good you could definitely go to town on about 4 at a time. The salsa itself that comes with the meal is fiery and hot. Love supporting places like this. Now I need to find an excuse to have a tamale party and buy them in every variety imaginable.

I seriously wish I could give this place more than 5 stars. They are the bomb! The service itself is deserving of the 5 stars. We got greeted as soon as we came in, and we got checked up on every few minutes to see if we’re doing alright. I love the home-​y feeling of this place. They treat you as if you’re their family.
Now on to the food, delicious! I love tamales, so I’m critical when it comes to them. This place does them justice for sure. I got the Tamale Bowl, which is similar to a burrito bowl at Chipotle, except with tamales. What’s not to love? The tamales were tender, light, and flavorful. The flavor combination was out of this world. I’m craving some more already. You can also purchase the tamales in dozens and half a dozens to eat later on. They have shelves of salsas and other delicious goodies for sale as well. Definitely check those out! I’m so happy I found this place, and I hope it’s here to stay!

Fantastic tamales! We ordered a few dozen for a NYE party one year. They were easy to warm up. Everyone enjoyed them at the party. The beef habanero was my favorite as it had a nice kick to it. These tamales are soo good even the regular tamales are fantastic! I can’t wait to try the hatch chili ones!

I ordered a couple tamales from here for Xmas. They were delicious, which is an understatement.
When I first walked in, was greeted by friendly faces, the guy I’m assuming is Tommy. Haha. I ordered half a dozen Pork, Chicken, potato and egg I think? And Spinach and feta cheese. We usually get our tamales from Rosas but decided to try something new. When I was ordering I noticed they also sold queso and chili. So I bought both. I love chili. :-)
When we got home, followed the instructions given to us, which was pretty simple. Just throw the bags in boiling water:-)
Everything tastes amazing:-) however my lease favorite of the 4 was the spinach and feta cheese. It was good, but tad bit salty. Chili was pretty good as was the queso. My favorite tamale was the pork or the chicken.
Will definitely be coming back to try all the different kinds they have. Love the tamales here, I’m glad they finally expanded from the old truck that used to sit next to Old West Café!:-)

This place rocks tamalies! You can order tamales to go or sit down for a nice tamale meal.
When you first walk in (watch your step) you will see the window to buy your tamales and if you are dining in go to the window further down on the left.
Order by the dozen or ½ dozen in pork, chicken, beef, vegan and desert categories with many varieties, but note they are all frozen. You will need to boil them in the bag for about 17 to 20 minutes if frozen and they are good to go. Its the holidays, so be prepared to wait in line if you are ordering tamales by the dozen.
I should give them 3 stars cause they were out of stock on 2 flavors the tenderloin and BBQ and said they would not have those for awhile which led me to believe that these tamales are not as fresh as buying them from local vendors all wrapped in aluminum foil and never frozen.
They taste good but there is nothing like eating tamales that have just been made.
Tommy Tamales restaurant was packed with every seat taken during lunch hour so it does a great business.

Always have loved their tamales, so was happy when they opened up a bigger shop/​restaurant.
Menu is limited, but so far everything we tried was good. The brisket nachos are to die for! Brisket is fresh and oh so tasty. Priced very reasonably.
They have tons of salsas, spices, mixes and tamales for sale, as well.
Owners are as friendly as it gets. Great neighborhood spot.

Ive been waiting for this place to open up. It was worth the wait. The tamales are delish as always. They have quesadillas & burritos for other options. It’s affordable too! 6 $ for a 2 tamale plate. 8 $ for the 4 tamale plate. The beans & rice are perfect.
My favorite part is trying the hot sauces. And having the option of buying them after. The hard part is choosing.
Can’t wait to come back.
