Our mother was transferred from the hospital to Highland House for the physical therapy. I asked the nurse to put an alarm on my mother or her bed because she was wanting to get up, they didn’t and she fell. Food was horrible so we often brought her outside food. Physical therapy for the 10 days we were there and the main reason we went was non existent. Some days they didn’t come, others were just for a few minutes. Only one day that I was aware of did they actually take her to the therapy room. It be interesting to see the actual bill for the«therapy». The CNA’s work extremely hard and they did all they could. We decided to get her out of their asap. We we reassured by the social service director that they would order the wheelchair and get transportation to another her facility. We even made a specific trip to her office to confirm this was done. She said Everything was ready. She didn’t do either one. We didn’t find out until 5:00 the night before her release that the transportation wasn’t taken care of as promised. I thought I would follow up with a phone call to the transportation co. To confirm the pick up. He said it was the first time he had heard if it. Luckily he had only a 9:00 am slot available, we took it. Administration gets a bit of an attitude if you are planning on leaving so be careful and make sure everything is in order. We had heard that the lady in social services doesn’t do what she says she’ll do. The house Dr. Is absolutely wonderful, along with the hardworking CNA’s. It’s close to 9000.00 a month for room and board not including nursing and physical therapy. You really have to stay 24⁄7 to be sure they are eating, being taken to the bathroom in a reasonable time and getting the prescribed meds on time, especially when the patient can’t speak for themselves. My mother-in-law had the same experience at Royale Gardens as far as needing to stay to be sure she had adequate care. They had an extremely hard time getting her mother out of there, they were really pushing to put her mother on Medicaid. Anyhow, I would not recommend Highland House or Royale Gardens since they are owned by the same company. I will thank the CNA’s and the on staff Dr for everything they did.

I felt that this was our best choice locally for rehab after a stroke. The therapy department was GREAT. However, the nursing care suffered as the staffing was not up to par.

Do not send anyone you care about to this facility! They have been investigated numerous times by the State of Oregon for their quality of care.
