Great hike! We did not see big foot but I had a paranormal experience. The kiln is supposed to be haunted and I definitely think it is. My cell phone started going crazy just as I was approaching the kiln — never happened before and hasn’t since. The hike itself was easy and beautiful.

Other reviewers are on the money describing this place I think. My wife believes this is a 5-star hike, and she has some great points: parts of it are as beautiful as anywhere else; the lime kiln is neat(except for the bio-waste someone left); and it feels remarkably«wild» for being 30 minutes from downtown Everett. But we went on a gorgeous 60-degree Thursday morning and took all the right snacks. In other words, we may have had as good an experience as is possible here. So, to account for subjectivity I’m awarding 4 stars.

Moderate — NOT easy. My GPS(Gaia, on iPhone 5) shows an ascent of 1,075′ and a descent of 1,085′ over the 5.5 miles from the trailhead to the kiln. Much of the trail was muddy(2÷15÷13), and there were several narrow, slippery logs that required crossing. A great trail, but not one suitable for the elderly, infirm or badly out of shape.

Nice hike, gotta watch out for the stinging nettles… they are not your friends. If your the tad bit afraid of snakes, then well,(i saw 5). Lots of artifacts to view, but you have to make sure that you don’t mess with them because they are protected by law. Look but no touch, that way others can appreciate them in the years to come. The Kiln is a must see but venture a bit further to the end of the trail. The upper portion is, well… bla. But at least you will be able to say that you were at the end. The loop(near the end) is well worth the adventure. You will descend to the rivers edge and be surround by nothing but forest and beautiful waters. This is the perfect spot to have lunch and admire the beauty. Even tho the water in this area is fairly calm in most spots, DONOT get in. There are swift currents that will carry you away(forever). Once loop is completed, retrace your steps and wave to the Lime Kiln on the way out.

This is a well-maintained trail up in the Granite Falls area. This is a fairly easy hike with little elevation gain and would be great for people of all hiking abilities. It’s 7 miles round trip if you continue to the end of the trail at the South Fork Stillaguamish River(this is a nice spot to enjoy lunch). You’ll reach the lime kiln at just under three miles and it is really fun to explore it and look at all the artifacts left behind. They are scattered all along the trail(mainly between the 2.5 and 3 mile marks) so keep an eye out! This is a fascinating way to learn about the history of this area. I would recommend wearing pants instead of shorts because there were nettles growing very close to the trail. Dogs are allowed on leashes. This would be a great hike for those overcast days where you wouldn’t be able to see big views from other hiking locations.

My boyfriend and I hiked the Lime Kiln Trail yesterday for our Valentine’s Day celebration. We had a blast! The hike itself is pretty easy — very little elevation gain. It is an out-and-back hike of 7.0 miles round trip. We did the route in about 3.5 hours, which included many stops to take pictures. It is a fantastic rainy day hike because of the mossy trees. So much gorgeous green color! There are so many awesome things to look at as you go. There are fantastic views of the South Fork Stillaguamish River and, of course, the main attraction: a lime kiln abandoned in 1934. The kiln was used to make powdered lime, which was then transported by the Everett and Monte Cristo Railway to smelters in Everett. There is also a hodgepodge of old saw blades, bricks(many stamped with dates), stove parts, bottles, dishes, etc that are much fun to explore.(Please leave them where they are so others can enjoy in the future!) I should note that this is likely a great hike for kids because of the very small elevation gain. I highly recommend this hike — we had a really great time.

An old timber logging route, where limestone was processed from(you guessed it), an old kiln from 1893. What’s neat are plenty of logging relics, pots and pans, various steel scrape metal, etc. Maybe not the most beautiful trail I’ve ever seen, but the what I enjoyed most was the historical aspect of the trail. At the trailhead, read the information boards to get the most of your visit. Please visit the website for much more detailed info.
