We waited for about half an hour. There is only one chef there. The food is average, definitely not worth the waiting.

I was the first one here. I ordered chicken curry from the lunch menu. Got my plate there was no steam but it was mostly warm. After I added some spice to give it some kick, it was ok. More like a 5.95 plate. Not 8.95. I won’t be coming back here.

Went here again, still really delicious. Not sure what is wrong with Sara F from California, but she sounds like a typical stuck up SoCal girl. She was probably disrespected because she was disrespectful, as the owners are the nicest people. Have food allergies? Go eat some tofu from whole foods. You can’t expect special items at a hole in the wall in Granite city, IL. This place is still the best in the area.

The sushi here is good, but the prices could be better. I will say their princess roll, spicy salmon, and fried crab Rangoon roll are great. I would probably rate them high if they had better prices.

BEWARE!!! STAYAWAYFROMTHISPLACE– THEYSERVEBADFISHTHATSITSOUTBEHIND A COUNTERALLDAYANDMYFRIENDAND I BOTHGOTFOODPOISONING! If I could give this place zero stars I would! Don’t even bother wasting your time with this nasty, trashy, HORRIBLE place. Never in my life have I had such bad customer service on top of eating bad fish! On top of it, I have an EXTREME seaweed allergy, which is why I ordered soy paper, then when seaweed was on my roll brought to the table and I said, I’m sorry I can’t eat this, I was screamed at from behind the sushi bar that I was going to eat it and pay for it regardless. In front of the whole restaurant! Wow. Never in my life been so disrespected. Needless to say we paid for the sashimi that was eaten first but got up and left after being screamed at for having a food allergy. Well, I guess they were trying to kill us both after all cause I was so sick I felt like I was on my deathbed for two days afterwards! HORRIBLEHORRIBLEPLACE, it will be shut down soon now that I called the health department on them, believe me, do not go here unless you want to be sicker than a dog.

I’ve been eating sushi for years and have experienced the majority of the most reputable sushi bars in the saint louis area and this is hands down the best I’ve ever had. I lived in Florida on the gulf coast for over a year and I was expecting to find a better sushi bar with all the fresh fish available but it turns out the best sushi is in granite city. Who would of guessed?

Granite City + strip mall should not = awesome sushi and sashimi, but it absolutely does here. As with some other reviewers I have had sushi all over StL, as well as Chicago, and I must say that Osaka can hold their own … and then some. As sushi lovers know, freshness is the absolute key. It can look pretty as a peacock, but if it smells and taste like fermented fish a%$, it’ll kill a good night out. I have NEVER had any issue with the freshness of the sushi at Osaka, and the presentation is amazing as well. Clean taste, perfect texture, and not the slightest hint of that dreaded,(if you’re a frequent sushi flyer), «fishy smell» in anything that I have ordered. They have done a very nice job helping you forget that you are dining in a GC strip mall as well. The restaurant is small and you may wait for a while to get your food, but I promise you it’s worth the wait. If you’re on your own or with a date, try sitting at the counter and watching M.G.(owner/chef) do his thing. It’s beautiful to watch and he is a extremely knowledgeable and entertaining character.

I ordered spicy tuna roll… HORRIBLE. the taste, smell and they made it totally different. this place Is for people that’s never had sushi before. Café Mochi is the best I’ve ever tasted and Ive traveled to many places for sushi. My next journey would be Japan. Even drunken fish was better. I would never return.

Staff very friendly. Sushi was great, rolled right in front of you. Some of the best sushi in the St. Louis area. Wish it was closer.

The sushi here’s very good. Just keep in mind that you’re coming here just for sushi. Had some non-sushi appetizers and… there weren’t that good. What’s amusing is that they have a couple rolls with apple in it. I’ve only had apple in my maki from Korean moms. Oh right… these guys are Korean. Go figure. It does take an extremely long time to get your food as there was just one guy making your sushi. It’s all very fresh and you can’t go wrong with large amounts of toasted sesame seeds in your rolls. I’m not going to go so far to say that this is better than most of the other Sushi places around, and it isn’t that much cheaper either, as the lady and I spent about 35 dollars easily. There are definitely cheaper sushi options with, in my opinion, equally good sushi. Granted, you’re talking to a guy who’s willing to drive 30 minutes out to get sushi, so my range in places to try out is pretty broad. Either way, I say if you’re on the Illinois side it’s worth checking out.

I’m torn between a 4-star and a 5-star rating but will go the extra distance on this one. Believe it or not, I let my 10-year old pick this place. We were in the area for an event and I had her check Unilocal to find a place for sushi and Osaka is what she came up with after reading a ton of reviews of all of the places in the area. Winners amongst what we ordered: + Dinner salad — 3 times the size I was expecting, absolutely fresh, and their homemade dressing was phenomenal + California Roll — they make the variety which includes a little bit of mayonnaise and the kids loved them + All nigiri(I had 10 different pieces) was delicious, fresh, and a healthy portion Not so much: — Bulgogi roll — I love bulgogi! I love sushi! I don’t love the fusion. It is certainly worth noting that this place likes to embellish their sushi with sauces(all home-made) and seasonings. From a purist approach this is unwelcome. From an adventurist approach this enriches the experience. The reason I was stuck between four and five stars was that I had a taste for the former but kid 2 picked the latter. All in all, a fantastic meal! Note: They have a monstrous television facing their small dining room. The set was off when we arrived but powered-up shortly thereafter. Fortunately, the waitress gave me the remote and told me to feel free to pick whatever I wanted. I asked the tables on our left and right(the place was only about half-full) if they objected to leaving the TV off and we all agreed… off it went.

Not a lot of sushi joints in the area so to have found such a high quality place like this was a joy indeed. The sushi was delicious and we enjoyed ourselves very much. Will be going back soon!

I found this gem of a Sushi restaurant 2 or so years ago on accident and have been a fan since that day. I live about 30 minutes away as do many of my friends yet we will make the drive around once a month to this establishment. The owners are here every day and are two of the nicest people you could ever hope to meet. MG has been making sushi for over 20 years and you can tell it by the quality. He first started in California. Hmmm enough about my personal feelings and background on the owners though let’s get down to business! The fish here seems to be of very high quality. I have never gotten a piece that had a funky taste to it which I cannot say about other sushi restaurants. The pieces of sushi and sashimi are very large in size and reasonably priced. The rolls here are all made very nicely and do not fall apart even if you get a large one like the Crazy roll. You will notice what many consider an odd ingredient in many of their rolls, apple. I don’t know where MG got the idea to do this and when I asked him he said it was«just his thing» but others should take note because OMGBATMAN does it taste great! There is a full menu here as well but I have never had the desire to try it. I have seen people order from it and it has always smelled great! If you come here I highly recommend you take advantage of the Buy 3 get 1 free deals. I would recommend getting the following rolls: Crazy, Rainbow, Osaka, and Kamikaze roll All of these rolls are very solid rolls and you will not be sorry you tried them. I strongly urge you to try Osaka out as it is the best sushi establishment I have been to in the Saint Louis area I have been to quite a few!

We stumbled upon this place when our favorite sushi spot in Edwardsville stopped serving lunch on Saturday’s. I can’t say that I would go to Granite City for much of anything but I will definitely be going back to Osaka. We did the«buy 3 get one free» with the Philly, Mr Sushi, Tuna and California and they were phenomenal. Better quality fish and larger quantities than any place we’ve been in St Louis. Their lobster rangoon and miso soup was also excellent. The owners are VERY friendly and the interior is very clean and nicely decorated. It was a bit chilly inside when we went but I can relate because I keep my house cool in the winter to save on the gas bill. If your concern is the location, look past it and try this place, you won’t regret it.

All you can eat for lunch, and I think dinner. The best quality rolls I think I’ve ever had. The head sushi chef has been at it a long time, so you know you’re not just getting a roll full of rice and no fish. A must check out.

This place is a real diamond in the rough that is Granite City. Everything is reasonably priced and reasonably delicious, although I felt a bit overwhelmed the first time I saw the expansive menu. The people are super-friendly and I have yet to be disappointed at Osaka.

Don’t be alarmed when you see the Granite City address. This place is off the chain, and the owners are super, super nice. They have outstanding lunch specials and a variety of delicious rolls to choose from. This is by far the BEST sushi I have yet to experience and beats the hell out of the overpriced chains in St. Louis.

This is probably my favorite place to go for sushi for what you get! They make amazing rolls that are huge and they have a daily special, buy 3 rolls get one free! A great place to go to buy sushi daily! And their miso soup is pretty good :)
