We went by Second Chance, after finding a listing for a Samsung fridge we wanted on Craigslist. Turns out these guys get their hands on the ding and dent appliances that people like sears and lowes deliver to your house, and if you refuse delivery or it’s damaged in shipping, it goes to the gray market for resale. We closely examined and tested the Samsung $ 2200 pantry door fridge we wanted, and noted it was literally like new minus a few dings. We asked the nice young lady working the desk to plug it in for us and leave it running over night, so we could verify it cooled and made ice, which she gladly did. Came back the next day with my truck, and two big dudes loaded it up for us. Ultimately, I ended up with a $ 2200 fridge for $ 1400. And used a couple Hawaii fridge magnets to cover the few door dings. Now I have a pretty awesome triple pantry door fridge, with cooling drawer for little over 50% of retail. I read the previous review and thats why i was compelled to write. The other poster used big words, out of context, used words like«adverse» to describe being«averse» to something. Clearly, the other poster is bitter they paid bargain store price, and wanted big box retailer service. This isn’t the place for that. If you’re handy, and capable of fully examining and evaluating the product, you’re gonna get a great deal. If within thirty days you’re not satisfied, be prepared to take it back and swap for a different model. Those are the breaks. If you buy a used fridge from someone on CList or at a Yard sale, do you expect them to agree to repair it for 30 days, or simply warrant that it will work, for 30-days? There’s Retail and RE-SALE… This is the latter, not the former. The alternative is to pay close to retail and hit up Sears, Lowes, Frys, or BestBuy. I couldn’t recommend Second Chance more highly. They also have an upstairs loaded with high end patio and home furnishing, exercise equipment like ellipticals and treadmills, etc. You’re going to pay right around 50% of retail for almost everything, and they will negotiate. Cash is king.

My wife and I were looking for a stainless steel refrigerator. Not being adverse to a used or ‘scratch and dent’ model, we found ourselves at Second Chance Appliances. We were responding to an advertisement for a fairly good deal on a Whirlpool model. The first warning sign was the initially stated model number and capacity did not match the physical unit. The capacity was less by three cubic feet. As we felt we were still receiving a decent value on the transaction, we overlooked this and proceeded with the dialog. There were two parts missing from the unit which the business proprietor stated he would provide at his cost. The understanding was the parts would be installed prior to delivery of the unit. We agreed to purchase the used Whirlpool model after some negotiation. We arranged for delivery of the unit several days later. Several days later, the unit arrived at our residence. The agreed upon replacement parts were not present and were not installed. Shortly after receipt, we noted the ice maker would not dispense ice. After contacting Second Chance Appliances, they indicated they would inspect it when delivering the replacement parts. Over the next several weeks, I had to repeatedly contacting Second Chance Appliances to try to get an update on the replacement parts. Agreed upon call backs by Second Chance Appliances never occurred. After approximately six weeks, both parts were finally received. In regards to the ice dispenser, Second Chance Appliance eventually did stop by and inspect the unit. They confirmed the issue. They openly stated the ice dispenser was too expensive for them to replace even though there was a 30 day warranty. Over the next several weeks, they then went about attempting various ‘fixes’ of which one was creating duct tape ‘spacers’ and placing them in the ice box area. Another ‘fix’ was to place loose random washers and nuts in the drive assembly of the ice dispenser. I consistently had to keep contacting Second Chance Appliances for updates on the issue or to obtain service. I got the impression they were hoping I would just go away. Frustrated with the lack of resolution to the situation, I advised Second Chance Appliances I felt they were incapable of appropriately resolving the ice dispenser issue and would be obtaining factory authorized service. I requested Second Chance Appliances provide a partial refund of the purchase price of the unit to offset this cost. I felt justified in the request due to Second Chance Appliances stating there was a 30 day warranty yet failing to honor it solely due to the cost of the repair. Second Chance Appliances stopped responding to all attempts to contact them. In summary and knowing what I do now, I would avoid patronizing Second Chance Appliances. Second Chance Appliances did not honor their stated warranty, seemed to have little if any mechanical skills or abilities, have little if any post sales service and make statements or promises they have no intention of fulfilling.
