Great little fish market, gift shop, restaurant. Super friendly staff, the(freshly caught, super local) fish and chips are amazing. The beer batter on the fries was some of the best I’ve ever had. I’m definitely planning to make this my go to lunch stop in Grand Marais when I’m there

My parents and I had lunch here today and it was one of the best meals that we’ve had in a long time. I love fish, but don’t usually love fish & chips because of the overwhelming grease. Dad and I had walleye and Mom had shrimp. Nothing greasy about any of it! Very light(cornmeal?) coating and moist. The fries have what they call a beer batter — it was also very light and they were delicious. Everything came out super quick and HOT. Staff was also incredibly friendly. Highly recommend and we’ll be back for sure!

It’s just not a visit to Grand Marais for me without eating at Dockside. On a chilly day, their soup hits the spot before I go out hiking on Artist’s Point. The Walleye fisn & chips is my favorite, and there’s always something new with their selection of gifts to commemorate the trip. Sit out on the back deck if you can for a contemplative look at Lake Superior and the fishing boats.

I went to the dockside fish market in search of fish & chips. My partner and I had the walleye and it was fishy and not very good. Walleye is one of my all-time favorite fish to eat and I’ve had better tasting tilapia from Costco. Maybe the other fish options are better. This is a bit of a derail, but something else that mystified me was the fish was breaded with crumbs(more like panko) instead of batter breaded. Maybe it is a regional thing?

The Dockside Fish Market is a great place for a casual lunch. The place next door(Angry Trout) gets their fish from here, yet Dockside’s food tastes so much better. The Herring isn’t bad but it has the usual fishy taste of Herring. The Cod is delicious but, it’s Cod so it’s slightly reminiscent of elementary school fish sticks. The Walleye is not one of their fresh selections. You can tell it’s been frozen, thawed and then frozen again. If you’ve ever had Walleye fresh from any lake you’ll be able to tell the difference, so skip it. The White fish is your go to here. Delicious, tender and doesn’t have the fishy taste that the same Whitefish at the Angry Trout had. If you want a fancier meal this isn’t the place, but the food is delicious!

Absolutely outstanding fish-and-chips! Both my wife and I got the walleye and could not believe how flavorful and fresh the fish was. The beer-battered fries came out crispy and hot and actually added something to the meal instead of just being a thrown-on side item the way they can be. We tried this place out on a whim and we will absolutely be back!

We were traveling up to Canada and got to Grand Marais around lunch time. We saw this place and it looked like a good place to eat so we stopped. I’m glad we did. The food was outstanding. I started with a large fish and corn chowder. It was thick, full of seafood and delicious. Then I ordered a Whitefish basket. Three large pieces of Whitefish, slaw and a ton of coated fries. The fish was fried and had a light coating of breading which I prefer. Absolutely great. My wife ordered the Walleye basket. It was fixed the same way as the Whitefish and delicious. We ate inside due to the weather but, if the weather is good they have outside seating and a very good view of the Bay. They also have a counter of fresh fish/shrimp to take home, smoked fish to take home and a freezer full of frozen delights for take home. There is also a small area with t-shirts and gifts. This is a very good stop and we’ll come back.

Yes… it’s a fish market… rated a «5»… really? YES… REALLY! Fish & chips… soup…fish sandwich… Smoked fish from the deli case… beer selection… friendly staff… ambience. They have it all happening there and its another«must stop by» place in Grand Marais. Small intimate seating inside… what looks like a nice outside deck area too.

This place is good. The smoked trout, smoked salmon chowder, and trout wraps. Best value in town I believe.

My first experience with smoke trout and other local fish. I wish I could have this stuff at least once a week. Know that Im older and my palette has grown with crazy foods. I would like to try the squid tubes and caviar and anything else they would recommend.

On a road trip from California and encountered the Dockside. Bought some truly wonderful Lake Trout to cook over a fire while camping at the nearby city campground. Also bought a ton(but not enough!) Smoked whitefish and Lake Trout. If you ever travel to Grand Marais, make sure you stop here.

Had a terrific lunch here. I am not a big sea food eater so I opted for the chicken salad sandwich. I am a bit of a chicken salad snob so when I say the sandwich was amazing, it really was. The hubs had herring fish and chips. I tried a bite and even that tasted delicious to me, the non-seafood-eater. The servers were pleasant and very fast. Relaxing atmosphere with awesome views of the lake. Cute gift shop too with reasonable prices.

Stopped in for a quick grocery run for an afternoon appetizer platter. Good selection of cheeses, crackers and smoked fish. We chose 2 heaping services of the trout dip(all sorts of heavenly), smoked trout, crackers and cheese. I was pleasantly surprised to pay less than city prices. Definitely a stop for the next visit!

We came to Gand Marais for the first time over the 4th of July and were so happy to have found this gem. AMAZING fish and chips(we had the herring) and a wide array of other tasty items like shrimp and caviar. We came here every day we were in Grand Marais for a reason :-) We ended up splurging and bringing home 3 tubs of caviar with us because it was that damn good. If you’re in the area, you can’t miss it!

In a town full of good options, Dockside Fish Market is among the best! My wife and I ate here for lunch, and we couldn’t have been happier with what we both had. We shared a cup of their Walleye Chowder, I had the Fish & Chips, and she had the Smoked Trout Fish Wrap. We loved it all, and you can’t beat their prices! Also, we had our dog with us, so we had to eat out front on their tables, but they were cool with it. Great place!

Hell yeah! So happy we stopped here!!! Got some amazing fresh trout — great prices! Got 25 lbs of pickled herring for $ 15! Smoked fish is delish. Also tried some of the soup of the days and they were quite scrumptious with an amazing view. They had trout fish and chips when we were there as well — split an order and it was hot, fresh and tasty! Definitely want to head back to Grand Marais for more!

Great fish and chips. Since their was 3 of us we ordered 3 different baskets — Walleye, Herring, and Whitefish. We liked the herring and the whitefish the best but the walleye was good too. The fries are also very good. Service was good. Great place to stop.
