«Baller» doesn’t even begin to cover this place. The staff is friendly, personable, polite, and helpful. The views are in all likelihood the absolute best in town. Ask the staff about the story of how this place was built — a collaborative effort by volunteers from 42 countries! I went looking for a place, other than my tent, to rest my head and found this place on a whim on Unilocal.$ 25/night for the hostel! That’s cheaper than every campground within a 50 mile radius as far as I’ve discovered. Truly a hiker’s dream and a bargain to boot. Definitely consider this place the next time you find yourself on the west side of RMNP.

We had a wonderful time, and loved the concept and spirit behind the whole project. This is a great place to stay and explore the surrounding area, and the staff is very friendly. The only downside was the noise from the upstairs common room in Cliffside lodge. In short, wholeheartedly recommended for families, and for couples make sure you get a quiet room(or splurge for one of the cabins).

Shadowcliff is an excellent place to stay for a nice weekend getaway or during your visit to Rocky Mountain National Park. Estes Park can be overcrowded and overpriced, while Shadowcliff feels like a mountain oasis of tranquility and relaxation. It is a true hidden gem in the United States! I agree with Elizabeth F. when she wrote, «Classic Colorado lodge in the Rocky Mountains. Fabulous view of Grand Lake. BEST value anywhere. Great staff — friendly, authentic, hard working folks.» Couldn’t have said it better myself Elizabeth! This review has been long overdue. My fiancée and I had a wonderful time here and look forward to future visits to Grand Lake and Shadowcliff. One of our favorite memories from our Summer of 2012 roadtrip!

Eagerly looking forward to returning to Shadowcliff — open from after Memorial Day to end of Sept. Classic Colorado Lodge in the Rocky Mountains. Fabulous view of Grand Lake. BEST value anywhere. Great staff — friendly, authentic, hard working folks from Colorado and beyond. Deep friendships to be made here in this unassuming gem of the Rockies. I travel alone & stay in the hostel room — a shared bunk bed room with 4+ beds. Window opens to the east, overlooking Tonahatu River, and if you leave it open, you are blessed with the sound of rushing water all night. Best cure for insomnia ever. If you are traveling with others, most bedrooms sleep 6. Many face Grand Lake. Cabins look fabulous, but I’ve not been fortunate enough to stay in them(yet!) The shared bathrooms have always been very clean. There is a «guest kitchen» — very small with crowded frig & an odd assortment of pots & pans. So save money & bring food from home to cook here. Beautiful dining and sitting areas in Rempel Lodge. Excellent teas & coffee available for a small fee. Not accessible for people with physical limitations. Many stairs & obstacles. Immediately adjacent to RMNP trails. Wonderful base camp for exploring the west side of the park. Many groups and families book a year ahead, so don’t delay in calling for a reservation. If you enjoy sharing a hostel room, I’ll see you there some weekend this summer!

We stayed here during our vacation on the Rockies and were very happy with our choice. The room was big and could host up to 6 people, the bathrooms were shared(we were to late to get the only room with en-suite bathroom) but I never happened to share the shower area with anyone and everything was always spotless. They also have some cabins, a couple of which very big and can accommodate large groups! The personnel was very friendly and gave us great advice on where to eat and were to go hiking. Also there was free coffee and tea available all day long. View, especially in the morning with the rising sun, was awesome! And all for $ 60 per room per night! They can provide meals for groups, not sure if they do that also for couples. For everyone there is a shared kitchen. Only disappointment Internet was not free as claimed on some website…
