First off: the bar serves LARGE pours. No complaints there. Hubby and I both did the 3 courses. I thought my first course was better. Try the seafood/sausage cheesecake. Not the kind of cheesecake you’re thinking of. More like A quiche type thing. It was delicious! 2nd course– the pork belly. Ok. That’s to die for. Seriously. Tons of flavor. Creamy grits. The 3rd course– I got the fired chicken. It was good. I like it. Probably my least favorite but good. White meat is always a little dry. They had hot sauce so that made me happy. Benets were more fried balls– not the flat squares but the powdered sugar really made up for it. Save room for a coffee too.

We went here for brunch on a Saturday. The portions of food are pretty huge and the prices are good, which I was wondering about since you have to order before you sit down. They were out of coffee every time I got up to refill. Getting up to refill coffee during brunch is also a bit of a bummer, but I’ll deal. We sat at our table probably longer than was polite on a busy Saturday, but no one rushed us. And sad to say but the poached eggs on my veggie benedict were overdone, which was a bummer, but overall the plate was A-OK.

Do not like the way they do breakfast first you order at the counter then you pay, wait on yourself I mean no service, no silverware you have to get it yourself same with condiments the only thing they do is bring the food to the table. The food was mediocre for $ 27.00 for Breakfast!!!

I have been here a few times. However it has only been for dinner and rumor has it that Lunch is very different. but equally as good. They were packed on a Thursday, we had a reservation but it took a few extra minutes because we requested a particular server. Not only did they accommodate us, the host also bought us our drinks at the bar. As a thank you for being so patient. We ordered the Tomato Basil soup and home made Onion Rings. Delish! I had the island chicken, which is so wonderful. It is an accompanied by a basil risotto. The menu is very NOLA. From Po Boys to Crawfish. We also enjoyed the live music. There was a piano player that was entertaining. He even serenaded a guest with a jubilee of Happy Birthday. Wonderful is all I can say. We definitely will be back.

Stopped in on a whim and was worried about getting a seat on a Friday night. Called ahead to make sure and they seated us the minute we walked in the door. Our waiter was great and knew his wine pairings. Wine and food did not disappoint! Remember to leave room for dessert!

My favorite little spot on the island!!! I’ve been going here since they first opened and have never been disappointed!!! Perfect spot for a quick lunch, my favorite is the Turkey Club with a Jenny Salad. My 10 year old son also loves it here. Dinner menu is delicious! Must try this place if visiting the island :)

If I could give this place more than 5 stars, I would! Best meal I’ve had in a long time. Tried the 2016 restaurant week tasting menu. We started out with Dick’s chicken and sausage gumbo and Jenny’s salad. They were both fantastic, flavorful, and plenty of food. These was also a bread basket that came with a few moist and delicious pieces of corn bread and something that looked like a cheddar biscuit or a cookie and was slightly sweet and delicious! Second course we had pork belly over grits which was falling apart and full of delicious flavor. The grits were a big surprise, something delicious, new and savory! We also had a seafood(i cant remember the actual types of seafood but there were a few) cheesecake. I was really interested to try this dish as it was also something new to us. It was fantastic! Great flavor, great texture, and reminded me of quiche. Third course was crab cakes over fried green tomatoes and pork tenderloin with goat cheese and pine nut stuffing. Both were fantastic and we were full before this course even came out. The crab cake is the best I’ve ever had, even better than places right next to the ocean! Perfect amount of citrus flavor, perfectly cooked, and extremely fresh and tender. The pork tenderloin was also very tender, had a great sauce over it with roasted root veggies. The stuffing was perfectly creamy with a little pine nut crunch. We give it 4 thumbs way up and can’t wait to return for more and to try out their breakfast menu! The live piano music was also a fun treat! The older gentleman was tickling those ivories with great gusto! Thanks Dick and Jenny for running such a great place!

We sat at the bar and the bartender took care of us. I got the local IPA brew called buffalo IPA. We then ordered the tasting menu and we were pleased with the options. I had the wilted romain blue cheese salad. Ronda had the crab cake and fried green tomatoes. Note: take one of your wife’s tomatoes and add it to your salad! You will not be mad that you did. To follow we had the pork belly and grits! I’m not sure why I can’t stop eating pork belly but you know me I love cow. To finish we had the the pecan crusted catfish topped with crab meat over fried greens setup and it was just ok. All in all I was very happy:) $ 27 per person. Yummy

What a wonderful gem of Grand Island! The food is absolutely superb, the service is top notch and such a friendly environment. I have been to Dick and Jenny’s dozens of time and never once have I had even a bit of a complaint. Their constantly changing menu is fun and exciting and the food and desserts are fantastic! I know it was a limited special, but their oxtail appetizer was unbelievable!

We LOVE Dick and Jenny’s restaurant on Grand Island. My brie and portobello sandwich that we got to go today was amazing! We have had breakfast, and dinner at this restaurant and have ALWAYS been very satisfied. The staff is always friendly and welcoming. I highly recommend their Crème brûlée for dessert! Everything they make is fresh and delicious! When family from out of town come to visit, THIS is where we bring them!

This is probably my favorite restaurant on grand island. I have been here tons of times for lunch and it’s always been good but dinner is out of this world! The atmosphere the waitstaff the greeters the food the food the food is all I can say amazing! I ordered Oyster Rockefeller soup to start my husband had alligator sausage gumbo to start and my daughter had the earthy crunchy salad all were amazing! Our waiter was very courteous fast helpful and kept coming back to see if we needed anything. For an entrée I had Seabass over a bed of sweet potato grits my husband had buttermilk fried chicken over jambalaya and my daughter had a New York strip steak my daughter got desert and said the New York cheesecake was amazing and out of this world! Would love to go to this restaurant once a week the food is so good and a taste of New Orleans that I’ve never had.

This is my second time at Dick and Jenny’s. The first time I gave it an average review and was surprised(in a good way) that the restaurant actually read my review and made some comments, inviting me back to try the new menu. Fast forward about a year or so and here we are. I’ll break it down over the course of our visit because I think that gives the best review. I visited with my grandfather, mom, and stepdad. Parking was great and the lot is quite big. We parked almost next to the door so no complaints there. When we entered it honestly felt like we were returning to a restaurant we have been to numerous times. The bartender and servers greeted us warmly. I’m not certain but maybe one of the people that greeted us was the owner? Not positive on that. But regardless, it was a warm invite and I appreciate that. We had a round of drinks at the bar and I thought he made them wonderfully. We explained how we wanted our drinks and received exactly what we asked for, which happens less frequently then you would imagine. The restaurant wasn’t overly busy, but it was a week night. So here is a break down of what we had(though I will really only comment on what I ordered). Minor disclaimer: I don’t eat heavy foods very often anymore. So when I do my stomach tends to not be very happy with me. I am taking that into account. Appetizer: Oysters Rockefeller. This wasn’t really on the menu but my grandfather asked and the chef obliged us. That says something. They were really good and I probably could have eaten all 18 myself. If you see these on the menu or special board I would recommend them. Soup/Salad Course: My stepfather, grandfather, and I ordered the Gumbo. Maybe since I don’t get beef broth based soups that often I was thrown off, but I just thought it was sub-average. I liked the tenderloin and sausage that was in it but the broth itself was nothing special. My stepdad agreed with me, but my grandfather really enjoyed it. This might have been a preference thing. My mom and grandfather got the caesar salad as well. They both thought it was missing something, but when I had a bite I thought it was fine. Entrée: I ordered the Roasted Acorn Squash & Thai Coconut Red Curry Noodle Bowl(with Chicken). I almost was going to order the Swordfish dish and in hindsight wish I had. I say this not because I thought the Noodle Bowl was bad(I really enjoyed it), but because of the way my stomach has reacted since — though maybe it’s unfair to blame the Noodle Bowl. Anyways, as for the Bowl. I asked about spice level and being someone who loves incredibly spicy food had hoped it would be super spicy. The server told me there was some heat to it, but nothing out of control. I opted to go for it anyways and he was right, it was just enough heat for me to enjoy it but someone who isn’t a big spice fan wouldn’t be put off. I thought it smelled wonderful and had a nice coconut taste to it. My one negative was how heavy it was. But this is why I made the disclaimer about heavy foods. As for the chicken. I thought it was a little tough and wish it had been more tender. Dessert: I normally don’t have dessert but the sticky toffee pudding sounded good. I was actually expecting a pudding but instead it was more like. a bread pudding(I described it to coworkers and that’s what they said haha). But it was fantastic. I didn’t eat it all but really wanted to. You could share this between a couple people(unless you don’t like to share). My grandfather had crème brûlée and said it was really good, so there’s another dessert we can give a thumbs up to. Drinks: We ordered a lot of drinks(around $ 58 worth). I thought their prices were moderate for alcohol(8.50 for manhattans)($ 7 for wine). They had a decent craft selection — though it was mostly all Abita’s. But I respect a place that is willing to branch out from the staple blue light, coors, molson, etc. Overall: I’m not sure I would say I love this place. But it wasn’t terrible. The table was split on a return. My grandfather and I would go back. My mom and stepdad wouldn’t. Their reason was mainly the price of the food wasn’t worth the quality. Personally, I enjoyed my meals. They were also so big that you could easily split any entrée or pasta dish. At $ 18 the pasta I had is enough for me to have for a few days — or just have split with someone at the table. If you do go consider sharing if you don’t have a big appetite. I’m torn on my rating. A 3 seems low, a 4 seems high. I want to give a 3.5 — 3.7. I guess what holds me back is how I’m feeling after the food settled. I don’t know if it was the food or just me. I will give them a 4 because no one else at the table felt sick afterwards — leading me to think it was just too much lactose/dairy for me in one sitting. I can’t blame a restaurant for that. I do want to go back and try the swordfish and jenny’s salad.

My husband and I went to Dick & Jenny’s based on the recommendation of a friend. My husband loves ribs and we had heard that they have some of the best around. The restaurant itself was very nice. We immediately liked the look of it and the atmosphere. But right off the bat we had to wait in line in the world’s smallest entryway as servers and other customers tried to squeeze around us. Once seated, we had difficulty choosing our entrees because there were so many different choices. I was disappointed that everything was a la carte though. If I am paying $ 22 for a meal, would it kill them to throw in a side salad? I had initially thought about getting the island chicken but I saw they had a Jamaican jerk swordfish on special. The swordfish was so overcooked and dry that I had to use a knife to get through it. I also had to cut off the edges because they were so burnt(which didn’t leave me much fish to eat). Despite the mound of mango salsa on top of it, the fish itself had no flavor. The fish came served on top of a thin layer of coconut rice and black beans and a tiny portion of spaghetti squash. By the time I finished the meal I was still hungry and wishing I had coughed up the extra $ 5 for the side salad. My husband ordered the ribs and chicken combo. He said the ribs were nice and tender but the flavor was not as good as the ribs at The Bakery(a local Niagara Falls restaurant with the best ribs in town). He said the fried chicken had very little meat, no flavor, and too much fat. Overall, we would be perfectly content never eating at this establishment ever again.

We got down with some soul music and southern cooking this week at Dick and Jenny’s. It is located just outside of Buffalo on Grand Island and features authentic New Orleans cuisine. The owners, Dick and Jenny, owned a successful restaurant by the same name in Louisiana for some time. When hurricane Katrina hit the couple lost their home and re-settled in WNY and decided to try their luck with a similar restaurant a little farther north. It was a screaming success. Setting: Dick and Jenny’s occupies the first floor of an old sprawling mansion. Decorative plates donated by patrons line the walls; there’s a piano in one of the rooms, a simple wooden bar, and an area for coffee. Menu: The menu features a handful of southern classics including crawfish, pork belly, oysters, po-boys, pork ribs, gumbo(s), jambalaya, scallops, and grits. We went with the«squad platter» appetizer to get a fair representation of their appetizer lineup. The squad platter included smoked shrimp, southern slaw with bacon jam, fried green tomatoes, deviled eggs, and jalapeño hush puppies. We split a beef-brisket Po-Boy for the entrée. Both items came recommended by our knowledgeable waitress. Food: The smoked shrimp was, hands down, the best shrimp we’ve ever tasted. The bacon jam on top of the southern slaw was equally delicious. It was our first time experiencing the miracle of bacon jam and I can’t believe it took us so long. The rest of the platter captured the savory Cajun taste we were on the hunt for. The brisket in the Po-Boy was, as you could guess, fantastic. It appears to be smoked in-house and it delivered even more than we expected. The french bread was tasty, as well as the sauteed onions and peppers on top of the meat. Overall: Dick and Jenny’s blew us away. We had high expectations after the solid reviews and they were able to live up to every one of them. The price was great at $ 25 for the two of us, the food was unforgettable and the history of the restaurant was the icing on the cake. Overall: A-.

Server Tim fantastic. We had a table of 9. All of us ordered something different so we could try the main menu items. Steak cooked to perfection. Ribs are a true full rack and falling off the bone. The acorn squash coconut curry noodle bowl was to die for. And the deserts… Ginger peach pie was a favorite, Crème brûlée best we ever had. Every desert was fantastic. This place is to die for!!!

I decided to give Dick & Jenny’s a try for Local Restaurant Week. I got there around 11:15, so they were still serving breakfast, but I chose lunch. Having lived in Louisiana(and being married to a bonafide Cajun Boy), I really wanted to try some gumbo. Soups are available by the cup or bowl, and I went with the bowl. I think the serving you get for the price is fair, but I admit I wanted more. That’s more a testament to how good it is than the portion you’re offered, though. In Louisiana, you’re often served potato salad and bread with your gumbo. In this case, you get a nice piece of freshly baked bread, but no potato salad. No complaints from me, though. I didn’t leave feeling hungry. I love the house in which they’ve put the restaurant. I felt like I could really have been eating at a French Quarter restaurant. And the décor is pretty spot-on too! The only thing that felt weird to me was seeing the«Welcome to Dick & Jenny’s» sign with the hand-drawn fleur-de-lis, and the Buffalo Bills sign just above it. Don’t get me wrong — I understand why they did it – this is Buffalo, for crying out loud! Go Bills! I just wouldn’t have been shocked(or even upset) to see a New Orleans Saints sign. But still, Go Bills! There was plenty of seating when I got there, but a party of 15 walked in not long after I took a seat in a booth. I overheard an employee warn the others about ten minutes before they arrived that there’d be a larger party coming and they needed to reserve the seats. There was ample seating for the large party, and plenty left over for anyone else who wanted to show up for lunch. There are two and a half rooms with seats in them: the big room with the counter, a dining room off to the side, and a small area to the right as you first walk in the door. There are short and tall tables for two; long tables for eight; and booths to seat four people. There are tall stools at the bar, too. The restaurant is mostly a serve yourself kind of place, but I really like the vibe. Walk up, place your order, pay, they bring you the food.(Don’t forget to leave a tip at the jar near the cash register!) Before I got there, I knew I felt like something Cajun: either gumbo or jambalaya.(Next time I’ll try the jambalaya because yes, there will be a next time!) But for someone not so set on eating Cajun food, the menu can be a bit overwhelming. They offer A LOT of food selections. You may want to check the menu online before you go to get an idea of what you’ll want to eat so you don’t take up too much time staring at the menu board. A quick word about the other stuff: the staff were friendly and helpful; the parking is plenty; the bathroom is clean(The ladies’ room is just one room, not stalls, despite what you may think when you see the pull handle door from the outside. I can assume the men’s is the same way.) The only reason I didn’t give five stars is because I’ve only tried one dish so far. Let me go back and try a few more and I may update with an extra star. If everything else is as good as the gumbo, that won’t be a problem.

After reading a phenomenal review I decided to check it out. Very easy to get to and ample parking. If you have never dined here you may be a bit confused walking in. No hostess or staff to greet you and it wasn’t until you walk through 2 doors and past a dining area that you see staff behind a counter. Once inside there were signs that directed you to «place order at counter», this was after reading large menus on the wall. The menus had very detailed descriptions of their food and many dishes sounded delicious. I wish the flavors of the food matched the detail and time put into their descriptions.

They were unbelievable! You may want to get two orders if you like oysters. I would’ve had a plate all to myself(5 oysters per order). We had two of the pasta dishes. They’re huge, so just keep that in mind. And save room for dessert. The toffee pudding is the most incredible thing you will ever put in your mouth.(Sorry mom! Your cookies are delicious too). Dick and Jenny’s is one of the most welcoming & warm dining experiences I’ve ever had. The owners moved here from New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina. The southern hospitality and Creole influences are very apparent in the menu and the restaurant itself. It is obvious that the owners, servers and regular patrons are all very fond of each other. It was nice to see everybody getting along so well. All of my food was wonderful, but I was absolutely blown away by the Lobster, shrimp, green onions, green peppers & brie cheesecake. Don’t let the«cheesecake» title throw you off. This is not a dessert. It actually reminds me a lot more of a specialty quiche. It was truly one of the most memorable and unique appetizers I’ve ever had. In addition, the mac n cheese, cornbread, and BBQ ribs were out of this world. We also got a bread pudding for dessert. Although we were completely stuffed, we managed to finish the dessert because it was too delicious to leave behind. I give this restaurant a 5⁄5 on atmosphere, food and service. I can’t wait to go back.

I’ve only been here for lunch and breakfast and I’m a huge fan. This is such a cozy place on Grand Island. The owner’s are from New Orleans and when the hurricane hit, they moved up here and opened up Dick & Jenny’s for a mix of creole cuisine, along with New American. Although I can’t speak to their dinner offerings(yet), I’m a fan of their breakfast sandwiches. While they do have poboys, I wouldn’t say that their early morning focus is very creole as you’ll find some standard sandwiches and my absolute favorite: their Eggs Benedict. It’s simple, yet perfectly made with poached eggs, a toasted English muffin, deliciously sweet hollandaise sauce and ham. I’ve also had a cup of their gumbo and was definitely impressed. I keep trying to convince my wife to come here with me but she has some strange aversion to going out to Grand Island for dinner. I’m going to keep trying and update my review soon!

We are visiting family on the island, and they invited us along for breakfast this morning. Excellent this review is based solely on my experience with breakfast today. eXCELLENT breakfast. They have a diverse menu, with something for everyone. The baked items I had were excellent. The omelet es my companions enjoyed were great, they said. This was very busy this morning, but we did not wait long. Fast friendly service. It’s quite unique. I have not tried lunch or dinner, but our companions did. They say it’s great as well. The original spot is in New Orleans, and still exists. That alone is a statement about the quality of food. Surviving in a foodie town is tough, unless you are excellent. I have been to, and reviewed NOLA in New Orleans. This establishment is as good or better than the breakfast spot I was at there. As far as dinner etc, I Can’t talk. Will call or text later say, but I do plan on trying the next time I am on the island. There was a card on the table for a craw dad boil in May. Can’t talk. About other meals firsthand yet. Can not get more NOLA than that outside of NOLA. Very family friendly, why go to fast food when this place is great and close! Don’t miss this place if you are close. They have a full bar, which I presume is as good as everything else. I added some pictures. Some of food. One of the menu board, and James. Nice young man at the cash register. Very friendly place. They help you feel right at home. They pay attention to the details, which sets them apart from most places. That indicates high quality in everything else they do in most cases.

Yum. Another Restaurant Week participant enjoyed! We started with Bloody Mary’s. Mmmm Good and nicely garnished but you better like Horseradish. We had to ask for a little tomato juice to add. Starting with the Smoky Char-Grilled Oysters was a good choice. The serving was 5 oysters with Parmesan-Garlic-Parsley Butter topping, Char-grilling left a hint of char lingering as your taste buds enjoyed the toppings. We picked 3 items each from the Restaurant Week tastings menu. The Jenny’s Salad and the Tomato-Basil Soup for starters and the Vegetarian Napoleon and Shrimp & Scallop Stuffed Sole for entrees. Everything was VG! The Napoleon consisted of layered Butternut Squash, Rutabaga, Spinach & Cauliflower and a few Eggplant Fritters covered with Roasted Red Pepper Crema. The Sole was a filet wrapped around a mix of diced shrimp and scallop fried golden brown, set on Wilted Spinach with Champagne Citrus Butter, surrounded by Brabant Potatoes(fancy word for diced home fried potatoes). For dessert we had the NY Maple Butter Tart a la Mode and the Vanilla Bean Ginger Crème Brulee’. The Tart was VG but the Brulee wasn’t like any I’ve ever had and I wouldn’t order it again. It was very thin, non-custard and very cold meaning to me pre-made and not recently heated. We had a few delays between our courses but overall the service was good. Our server was very nice as were the other server support staff but with all this still a few things fell through the cracks. i. e We were never offered coffee and received our check without asking if we needed anything else. I’d give 3 ½ stars cause it was A-OK and I am a Fan. We’ll be back! Sláinte

They have a variety of coffees from places around the FingerLakes(another great part of WNY) as well as a bar with a variety of beers and other libations. They also have live music once a week or so. I definitely will be come back for more of their delicious food and drinks.

Run by New Orleans natives displaced to Western New York after Katrina, Dick & Jenny’s brings a real feeling of Southern hospitality to our area. Located in a homey building, the atmosphere is cozy and inviting – but don’t let the relaxed feeling fool you; they put out a heck of a meal and can throw down a Louisiana music party like nobody’s business. For dinner, the emphasis here is a fine-dining/gourmet twist on traditional Cajun cooking. Decadent po-boys and the«Who Dat» crawfish pie(based on a recipe from a New Orleans musician who also made his way north to the Buffalo area) are complemented by a select offering of seafood, chicken, and beef-based dishes – along with a few pastas. They also have quite a nice salad menu, with some very tasty home-made dressings. One of their most popular options is a tasting menu, available every day, which offers three courses for $ 23 – add $ 15 to that and you can enjoy smart wine pairings with each course. They don’t skimp on the portions(or the pours), so if you’re hungry, this is a great value!(I really wish they’d make this vegetarian-friendly, though. There always seems to be one course with no veggie option!) In short, the food is great – so good that you’re going to need a reservation if you want to eat it; even on a Tuesday at 5:30pm, the place is packed. Also of note: During the morning/day, the whole venue – cleverly – becomes a sort of coffee-house with food ordered from a counter at the rear of the main room. I haven’t had the pleasure of sampling their breakfasts, but many friends swear by them and make this a regular morning stop. I can tell you, they make a mean latte!
