The best. I live in New York City and this is way better than any coney I’ve eaten in the city. Best fries and the burgers are old school and delicious. The authenticity of this place is what makes it amazing. If you get anything at Coney Island, it’s the chocolate malt and two coney dogs.

My dad is from Grand Island so every year we visit, it is mandatory to stop and get some coneys and malts. We have nothing like it back home. The customer service is also spectacular. I included a picture of the original menu from 1933 when it opened. Yesterday, we had what is probably our last time eating at Coney Island(because grandma recently passed away), so we had a toast to the grandparents with our last coneys. It’s a bittersweet moment leaving something that has been a longstanding part our lives. I hope another family takes up this fabulous place as their lunch spot like mine did.

Don’t ask me why, but my in-laws choose to live in Grand Island, Nebraska. We don’t visit frequently, but Coney Island makes it worth the six-hour trip. It’s wonderful.

Just some tips for other rookies: 1– seat yourself 2– use a spoon to pour your shake into the glass 3– the hamburgers are just as good as the dogs 4– don’t wait for a bill/ticket, just head to the register and tell them what you had will be back

Same fare for years makes the Coney an institution in GI and surrounding area. The only change I noticed after being away the last 45 years was the prices are much higher. Just a sign of the times. Just had two dogs, fries and coke for $ 10 with tip. Very tasty! Same location for years. Very small seating. Get there early or you will be waiting to get in!

A visit to Coney Island is a step back in time! I have been visiting Coney every time I’ve been in GI since I was a little girl and it’s the same every time. The restaurant itself is set up like an old school diner, with a row of booths and then a row of seats at the counter. The staff is so nice and welcoming, and they can always keep up with the lunch rush. The food is good, and cheap! I stick with the Coney dog, which is a hot dog with tasty meat sauce on top. The fries are the best — nice and crispy. There are old school machines making the milkshakes which are also a must. They are big enough to split! In a town with so many chain restaurants, it’s refreshing to visit a unique family-run place. Whether you live in GI or are just visiting, you have to go to Coney Island!

I was again in Grand Island on business and heard about this place from a coworker. When you walk in, you instantly feel like you’ve stepped into a small town American institution. The place is narrow with a row of booths to the left and the long lunch counter to the right. Above the counter, you have a collection of miniature football helmets of NFL and college teams(funny enough they had my college team’s helmet and even our rivals, those dang Cougars.). To the far left, they display the original 1933 menu where a cheese sandwich was more expensive than a burger and 35 cent t-bones. I also have to mention the old green Hamilton Beach milkshake maker right next to the newer grey one. You look around this busy lunch room and you know that the people who eat there are local regulars. My coworkers and I ordered the signature coney dog, a hot dog with a meat chili topping, mustard, and onions. We also had fries and milkshakes. To be honest, the coney dogs were just ok, the fries weren’t bad, but the milkshakes were just awesome. I would go back just for those milkshakes. Bottomline, this place has a lot of history, charm, and local flavor. Stop by for lunch(before 3 pm) and try a milkshake.

One of the best chili dogs I’ve ever had. My wife said it’s the BEST she has ever had. A little hurtful since I’ve been making chili dogs for her for years. But — it’s hard to disagree. A must stop if you are in the Grand Island area.

If you live I the area, or are just passing through, don’t miss this terrific family owned establishment. We were in luck because 88 year old Gus(the 2nd generation owner) was there when we arrived, as was his son(3rd generation), who runs the place. When he heard we had come from N. J., Gus regaled us with stories of his time in the Army(1948 Ft. Dix, N. J.) and adventures in & around the N. Y. C. area. We then heard some very interesting, humorous stories about Grand Island. The gals who served us could not have been nicer & it really was like we were visiting. Oh yeah… THEFOOD… The Coney Dogs & Black and White malted were just great.

The most over priced, laughable excuse for a hotdog ever! I cant figure out where they even find such skimpy, sickly dogs. It gets two stars only for the good malts, and the cool atmosphere. Save your money. There are much better places around!

If you’re looking for great fries, a coney dog, or a delicious malt this place is for you. I grew up in Grand Island, so I have many fond memories of eating here with my family as a kid. But it’s my husband, an East Coast native, who really can’t get enough of this place. When we visit my parents, he always me promise that we will visit Coney Island at least twice(though his preference would actually be every day). The food is always fantastic and the service is amazing. If you’re going to eat lunch in Grand Island, you really should plan to stop here.

Okay, I read the reviews and decided I had to try it. I’ve gotta say, I don’t get it. I don’t get it at all. mediocre small hotdog on a bun with some sort of meat sauce and old raw onions. warm soda in a bottle. The milkshake my son had was pretty good. All in all I just don’t get the draw of the place. My son and I shared an order of fries(soggy and greasy) he had a grilled cheese, me a coney dog, milkshake and soda and spent $ 15! Frankly, I’d rather have a hotdog at the Sam’s Club café anyday. I think maybe it’s one of those places that brings back childhood memories or something but for me I just don’t get it.

As the highest-rated restaurant in Grand Island, I had to make Coney my lunch stop on a recent work trip. The price($ 15 for 2 people) was definitely right, and the coneys were amazing(as was the vanilla malt I indulged in on a whim). The fries were good too, but I’d recommend skipping in lieu of another dog. Plenty to look at while you’re grabbing a quick bite up at the bar. This place obviously has a lot of history behind it and food that’s stood the test of time.

I took a trip here on my way to Omaha and it was well worth the de-tour. It’s slightly off the 80 and you must stop in! It definitely has an old school feel to it that you don’t see around anymore. The owner greeted me and will tell you what he recommends — the hot dogs of course! I ordered 2 hot dogs with a side of fries. The real treat was the owner telling you stories and showing you pictures from back in the day. He has a real passion towards life and his business. The hot dogs were delicious as well. There are some places that you root for to do well, and this is one of them.
