I recently needed a timing belt and water pump for my 2004 Hyundai Santa Fe 3.5L. The mechanic I had been going to for years quoted me a price of $ 1,335(including tax). If I’m quoted a price on a job of, say, $ 250, I don’t shop around — I just have my mechanic do it. But with a $ 1,335 job I definitely wanted to compare prices. So I got quotes from seven shops. From high to low, they are: Moe’s Tire & Auto(Simsbury) — $ 1,500; Steben Auto Service(W. Hartford) — $ 1,450; Rt. 44 Tire & Auto(Canton) — $ 1,335; Collinsville Auto Repair(Collinsville) — $ 1,325; Advanced Automotive(Canton) — $ 1,250; Fast Lane(Canton) — $ 1,175; and Tim’s Automotive(Granby) — $ 845. That’s right — $ 845. And he gave me this price without asking him to beat another price. I simply asked for a price and that’s the one he gave me. Because I had gotten so many positive recommendations from people I work with for Tim’s, I had him do the work. Keep in mind that the disparity in prices was not because of different parts being replaced. They all included a new timing belt, tensioner assembly and idler pulley, a new water pump, new drive belt, and refilling the cooling system with fresh anti-freeze. When I asked Tim if I could save a few dollars by paying in cash, he reduced the price to an even $ 800. Not only was his price the best by far, he turned out to be one of the nicest and most personable guys I have met. All-in-all, this was a fantastic and most pleasurable experience. Thank you Tim!!!

Went to get my AC fixed. Everyone was so nice and helpful. Very fair price, didn’t even charge a penny to diagnose the problem… Honda dealership was going to charge 200 just to figure out what was wrong with it(way overpriced so I left). Tim did everything so quickly I was very impressed. Tim even called a couple days after I picked up my car just to make sure everything was working well. I will definitely be coming back here for all of my fix up needs and recommending to all my freinds! Thank you!

If you thought there was no such thing as an honest mechanic, you haven’t met Tim. I tend to drive cars until the bitter end so I have seen my fair share of mechanics. Someone recommended Tim to me about 7 years ago and wouldn’t dream of going anywhere else. Often times when I take my car to quick lube place, they find bigger ticket issues they would like to fix. I always take my car to Tim and he tells you what really needs to be done now and what your options are for everything else. It seems that today most service providers assume lousy customer service and incompetence are perfectly acceptable(I’m looking at you Comcast!). Tim is such a wonderful throwback to when people actually cared. Seriously, don’t go anywhere else!

I’ve been a customer of Tim for about ten years now, back when he was on Hopmeadow street in Simsbury. I’ve always said that you have to trust your mechanic as much, or even more than your doctor. Tim has always stood behind his work 100%. One time time my old Chrysler mini-van was late in life, I had it towed to Tim’s. It looked like the engine was ruined. Tim spent several hours trying to fix it, but could not. I was pretty sure of the outcome before he even started. When I asked for the bill, Tim said he felt like veterinarian & after your dog dies, it wasn’t right to bill you. I still asked for a bill, stating that have been at the vet after my dog died & the vet still billed me! (sorry Dr Korten) I have recommended Tim’s to several of my closest friends & they have been very happy. Tim may not be the cheapest mechanic, but he stands behind his work.
