Plain potato chips are total bullshit. For those that know me, you know that I am not one to use expletives ever, but in this case, I feel like I am justified. Before getting into my review, I want you to read that first sentence eight times. If you agree, carry on and read the rest. If not, it’s been good knowing you. I’ve found myself in more of a sentimental mood lately which has lead me to write some pretty long drawn out reviews. I will try not to do that here, but I must mention that I can still remember my first bag of Zapp’s chips. My dad parents were talking about those chips like they were the second coming of Elvis and all I could think was: «These chips are not good and any talk to the contrary is total malarkey». A couple weeks later my parents brought home the Hotter than Hot Jalapeño and I reluctantly tried one. This time I exclaimed«My Word Evelyn» at how good, and how hot they were. It was that moment that I was hooked. It wasn’t the chips that were bad on my first try, it was that they were plain, and we all know what plain chips are… right? These days Zapp’s are no longer owned by a local family, but they are still one of the best chips you will every try. My favorites are the creole tomato, spicy cajun crawtators and jalapeño. If you are from Louisiana you already know about these chips. If you’re not, you need to try them as soon as humanly possible.

Let’s just be honest here: it really doesn’t get any better than Zapp’s potato chips. First of all, they are super crunchy and perfect. They aren’t weak and thin like Lay’s. Nothing against Lay’s, but I like a chip that I can really sink my teeth into. Then there are the flavors: my favorites are the Cajun Dill, which is a spicy pickle flavored chip and I am CRAZY about the Spicy Cajun Crawtators. They are flavored to perfection with the perfect amount of salt and spice. A lot of people don’t know that Zapp’s also makes sweet potato chips which are amazing as well. You really can’t go wrong with whatever Zapp’s chip you may choose. I just have to remember to pace myself because Zapp’s will make me a fattie, if I let them!

Zapp’s potato chips are soooo good. How good, you ask? So good that my little brother who moved from Louisiana to clear across the country about five years ago asked for two things when I went to visit him. Zapp’s potato chips and Tony Chachere’s seasoning. I had to pack them in my carry on bag because he was so afraid they’d get lost otherwise. You think I’m kidding… I am not. He’s come down to visit a few times over the years and drives a big truck. When he leaves the bed of that truck is filled with baby stuff(he has two little ones) and Zapp’s chips. Oodles of them. For real, you guys. These potato chips are kettle style and thick. You’re probably going to injure the roof of your mouth if you try to scarf them down. If dainty little thin chips are your thing then stay away from Zapp’s. More for me. :) Besides, dainty little thin chips are for ballerinas. If however, you are more adventurous, then give them a try. All of the flavors are great but my personal favorites are Spicy Cajun Crawtators and Voodoo. Yum. Enjoy!

The boldest statement I will ever make but ZAPPSVOODOO flavored chips are the best tasting potato chips I have EVER consumed in my life. They do not have vendors in California so I plan to smuggle as many bags as possible on my flight back. I will fight the TSA agents if they try to hate.

By far the best potato chips… ever! Whenever i’m down south, particularly louisiana i stock up and bring them back home. You can’t go wrong with any flavors, even the plain ones are perfectly cooked. But if i had to choose the voodoo, salt and vinegar and sweet onion are delish. The voodoo is a combination of all flavors in one bag. I just wish they were sold everywhere in the country because they will definitely give those other kettle chips a run for their money. However if you are curious and want to try them, you can order online and most potbelly restaurants sell em but only in a small size. I think i will go have some now. Im so glad i bought many bags. Only if you can hear the crunch and the mmmmm mmmm good sound i making.

I’m a potato chip aficionado, and they don’t get any better than Zapp’s. Call me boring or old-fashioned, but my favorite flavor is the good old-fashioned regular. Fried in peanut oil, super crunchy, perfect amount of salt, no dipping sauce required. I also like the Voodoo Chips(which essentially combines all flavors in one spicy, dusty treat) and the Cajun Crawtaters. I’ve never had a flavor I DON’T like … others inclue Creole Tomato, Sweet Onion, Dill, Pepper & Sea Salt. They can be found all around NOLA at grocery stores, the airport, etc., as well as online and at specialty grocers nationwide(World Market carries them in the Midwest, as do some gourmet grocery stores). I’m glad they are available on a broader scale(the acquisition by Baltimore’s Utz probably helps in this regard), and that their wider distribution hasn’t seemed to affect the quality. Occasionally they will have«special» packaging — e.g. Mardi Gras or LSU Tigers — but don’t be fooled … these are typically just the traditional flavors in shinier packages. But nothing wrong with that!

«CRAAAAWTATORS !!!» I cried, while punching the sky. This was the most recent scene that I caused at a local area Wawa when I happened to find a display of some of my favorite potato chips in all the land. Mmm. I grabbed a bag of Cajun seafood boil in chip form and another of Hotter N Hot Jalapeño, for later. I did have to stop myself for gathering them all up by the armload for hoarding. I swear it it nearly put a tear in my eye… Zapp’s in the Philadelphia area! Though it may be true that I have an unreasonable attachment to certain snack foods, them’s some good chips, my friends.

Crispy, light, flavorful explosion in your mouth. Favorite is Voodoo, Crawtator then Dill. Can be found at World Market in S. California. Had them my first time in New Orleans and LOVED them. Would even have them sent to me via the company website. Gave them as gifts to people. Everyone loves Zapps!
