Jamie’s Cotton Gin Café must be a stop for the locals or those traveling to or from the nearby recreational /tourist spots. It’s a no frills café. In a plain building with a non-descript interior, Jamie’s serves basic food. It’s not a breakfast place, it doesn’t open until 11, but for lunch or dinner where hard to pronounce menu items, inflated prices, and deconstructed food isn’t going to hit the spot, this place will work. There are daily specials, not on the menu, at a good value. Everything is ala carte, available to go, and served quickly. When I ordered a basic cheese sandwich and fries, five minutes later the food was on the table and the server was apologizing for it taking so long.(?!) The sandwich served on thick sliced bread hit the comfort-food spot. The fries were hot, but nothing spectacular. In fact, that pretty much sums up the food. The tea, however, was good. I have a love /hate relationship with sweet tea and don’t typically order it. I’m not sure why I did here, but it just seemed like the thing to do. Although I’m still not a fan, this tea didn’t make my teeth hurt from all the sugar, so for me there was an okay balance of tea and sugar. Jamie’s is a decent spot for plain food, served quickly to-go or for a spot to sit down other than a chain fast food place, or a drive-through.
