I went here while waiting for my car to get serviced down the road. This was a nice little café right in the downtown. The servers were very nice, the coffee I had was good and the food I ordered came out fast.

Excellent burger and fries. My lunch companion had the the chicken pesto on a pita. An excellent meal and an excellent value!

Horrible this place used to have really good food. Home fries were like mashed potatoes, asked for ham and Swiss omelette received it with cheddar cheese, could over hear waitress tell cook that the plate also had a side of sausage and then you could hear the microwave beep a short time later. You could tell after biting the sausage it was definitely in the microwave with hard ends. Terrible! They should really get the place under control.

For a breakfast and lunch place it is hard to beat Howells. The owner, Sarah, keeps a nice, light friendly atmosphere. The staff are always friendly and greet you with a smile. The food is healthy and well prepared. We also cater from Howells. Her sandwich platters are always fantastic. We order seafood, vegetable, and chicken sandwiches. They are called tea sandwiches and they receive rave reviews at every party we serve them. We also get dessert from Sarah. We get homemade cookie platters and carrot cake. We have ordered for different kinds of parties, also. One was catered for an 18-year-old’s party and we had more common and popular sandwiches such as ham and cheese, roast beef, and tuna fish. Another party was all hot food trays which included chicken marsala. Sarah is great at adapting to the needs of the party and the attendees.

I had a delicious California burger while waiting for some bike repairs to be done at a Joes Fix It across the street. The burger was enormous with very fresh vegetables and a just right ripe avocado. It was cooked perfectly and served with handcut french fries. Service was friendly and prompt. The place was about ¾ full on a weekday at lunch time — it seemed to be a local favorite.

This is my favorite stop for lunch in the Newburg area! Great comfort foods and a great variety of tastes to choose from.

Calling an eating establishment a deli/café is as monotonous as it gets. The name is thrown around everywhere these days, without necessarily correlating with the food offered at said establishment. I’m happy to report that Howell’s is very much a Deli and a Café, and delivers extremely well in both of those regards. First, I’d like to applaud Howell’s on their daily specials, because not only do they change every day, but they change on their WEBSITE every day, which is absolutely crucial when bringing customers to the door. And, it’s not some bootleg website or half-assed Facebook link, it’s a legit service that is constantly updated, and it works. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been unsure about what to get for lunch, popped onto Howell’s website, and ordered as a result of reading their daily specials. Bravo, bravo, bravo, Howell’s. So, about these specials. Teriyaki tuna and citrus salad, roast beef and mozzarella paninis, etc. The menu is always so different than you’re typical, boring«deli» or «café.» The food is consistently delicious. My coworkers and I have ordered here dozens of times, and it’s always an option that always cures our lunch desires. Whether it’s breakfast or lunch, Howell’s can, and will deliver, permitting them to rightfully and proudly wear the«deli/café» namesake.

Absolutely wonderful. Warm, inviting, great service… I had a sour dough panini with mozzarella, tomatoes and fresh basil for $ 4.99. Yes! it’s 2013 and my panini was $ 4.99. Three of us ate for $ 21. Correct. Including drinks. And it was good, warm and friendly. No wonder it was packed.

I agree with Dan D. Howell’s certainly is the place to go for food. I have business in Goshen and when I am there during the week I have always had a great experience and everybody is so friendly. Their sandwiches are great. After review of the older comments, somebody must of gotten up on the wrong side of the bed. Trust me, you will not be disappointed, and if you are, see Sarah.

I believe a lot of these reviews are dated because i don’t feel like any of them apply to what Howells is today. I’ve been going to Howells since i started working in Goshen two years ago and i have not had a bad experience. I normally order to take out but my office has eaten in on occasion. I’ve had a range of items on their menu from salads to burgers to wraps and i have enjoyed them all. I suggest Howells Café if you’re looking a bite to eat in Goshen. I also highly recommend the California BLT Salad, delicious!

Howell’s is what it’s supposed to be; a great local spot for breakfast and lunch. A while back they did explore serving dinners and I wish they still did. For the price you certainly couldn’t go wrong and the menu was perfect for all tastes. Anyhoo… Back to what they serve now. Breakfast is a home run with the corned beef hash being a favorite but an omelet is always safe. For lunch, they serve a wide variety of sandwiches(the Chatham is a personal fav) and I’ve never walked out hungry. Whether you’re a Goshenite or in town for business, you can’t go wrong grabbing a bite at this local favorite. And oh yeah, the owner is super sweet and never rude so I have absolutely no idea what any other reviewer could be referring to :)

My husband and I tried Howell’s for lunch yesterday and decided we are not fans. For starters, it took at least 20 minutes for our food to come, which was not necessary considering what we ordered. My sweet potato fries & my husband’s french fries, while crispy, were cold. I asked our waitress for mustard for my fries, and she said she would bring it to us in «a minute», but it never came. My husband said his mushroom burger was ‘just okay”, and I could have made the veggie burger I had at home myself, but better. When the waitress quickly stopped by to ask us how we were doing, I mentioned that I still needed the mustard I asked for, but she walked away before I could finish what I was saying. She briefly stopped by our table again, literally dropping off the receipt without asking us if we wanted dessert first. We did wind up getting dessert, and my peanut butter pie was really good, and my husband seemed to enjoy his key lime pie. Howell’s does have promise as a cute little deli turned café, but things here need to be thought out a bit better. First of all, if there is only one waitress or waiter scheduled, this person needs to be a bit more efficient and polite to the customers. The arrangement of the tables was quite awkward. Also, more vegetarian options would have been nice. Most importantly, a better chef needs to be hired if this place is going to pass as a café.

This place used to be a deli. Actually, it pretty well still is. Sadly, Howell’s is trying to be something it’s not — the food here is all deli fare, awkwardly presented in a café/bistro format. The conversion has left a strangely-shaped, angular lobby area leading into a triangular dining area with a few too many tables. Still, the food is decent. We had a Lipman’s Salad(relatively bizarre but good — chicken and greens with apples, cranberries, walnuts etc) and Kiersten’s Panini(turkey, baby spinach, mozzarella and honey mustard dressing) along with a side of sweet potato fries(good, but nearly cold — they took 15 minutes to arrive). If this place were still a deli, they’d earn an extra star. As it is, they’re in a strange limbo where decent, hearty deli food is presented via unnecessary table service. I mean, when I ask for a root beer in a place with table service, I don’t need to be brought the bottle(A&W, oh yes) along with a glass of ice. It shatters the illusion somewhat.
