I have enjoyed living in SFM properties for over 2 years. SFM is a great property management company, if you like your privacy in Isla Vista. The people who run SFM are super friendly including Valerie, her husband and in the past her father, who are a huge asset to the company.

We went to IV in February to look at properties for the 2014⁄15 school year. Val at Vista Del Mar was very busy, but took the time to sit with us and discuss properties, procedures, etc. We went knocking on doors (as is the custom in IV) and loved one of the properties-​the location is great and the price is right for a studio unit (my daughter has had too many bad roommate experiences). One of the building’s tenants gave us a glowing review of the building/​property managers-​he is a grad student and just renewed his lease for the third year. We are moving her in next week and Val was great in working with us to get a key despite our July 4 arrival.

I would give this business no stars if I could. I called several times, never got an answer back, e-​mailed them and still did not get an answer back, sent in an application for an apartment; they ask for social security numbers, references and other private information and got no reply. I feel uncomfortable having done so. Nothing compared with other agencies who are clambering for your business. There are plenty of agencies in Isla Vista. Skip this one!!!

Valerie is okay but her husband or the old man, whomever he is, is very unprofessional and rude. He is completely useless since Val is in charged of EVERYTHING. He is unhelpful and does not seem to value the the customer nor proper customer service at all. He never answered my question except with «You have to talk to val, but she’s not here right now I’m not sure when she is going to be in.» As a student that is completely a waste of the limited free I have. He is very frustrating to deal with. If you can’t handle shit hire some actual competent people to help.

Don’t rent from them, it was a horrible experience and they are incredibly unhelpful. I would have to come to them multiple times to remind them of issues THEY as landlords should have dealt with, and they still put it off. Then when I finally, thank goodness, moved out they messed up my security deposit and when I tried to call asking about it I was hung up on. Extremely unprofessional.

SFM is a great property management company if you like your privacy in Isla Vista. The company does not have the prettiest properties in IV but their prices are some of the lowest you will find in the city.
The people who run SFM are super friendly and like to meet their tenants before renting to them. They are just a walk away if you ever have a problem with pipes, windows, etc.
When looking for a new place for the upcoming year, our house specifically looked for a place that SFM was leasing out. Their properties are not the nicest or the most impressive IV has to offer, but you will get a landlord who is located in IV, respects your privacy, and gives you a great price.
