Captain Fatty’s

Great beer in a great space. Not a gimmicky tourist trap, but a place to visit if you are driving through or you live in the area. The clientele was a mixed group, so it’s likely that you will feel at home here. Our server, Matt was very knowledgeable and friendly and took the time to answer our questions and tell us about the beer.

The beers were pretty good (not great) for a microbrew. I didnt really see or taste anything that was radically different from any other microbrew Ive been to lately. The bar is fun though and there is a small kids play area which seems to be popular with parents. I can only suggest they get a bit more sun protection as it can get pretty warm in the late afternoon.

Captain Fatty’s was the perfect venue to host my husband’s birthday celebration! The casual, family-​friendly, and inviting environment made party hosting a breeze. The owners were amazing — very approachable and accommodating! They were gracious with my many questions, reserved us a couple of tables for our group to congregate (our party was during their normal open hours), and happily refrigerated our cake until the appointed time. Between the delicious drinks, the food truck that night, and the laid back atmosphere, a great time was had by all (and it honestly couldn’t have been easier!). We will definitely be back again soon!

We had a private party for my husband’s birthday in September 2015. Many of our guests had never been here before and absolutely loved this venue. Bryan and the entire Capt. Fatty’s team were a pleasure to work with and took great care of us. Thank you for making our celebration so special! We Capt. Fatty’s!

A hidden gem!
My (now) husband and I were looking for a place to throw a welcome party /​rehearsal dinner for all of our wedding guests the night before our wedding in Santa Barbara, and are SO thrilled we chose Captain Fatty’s!
Unlike the other places we were scoping out, CF was reasonably priced, had plenty of parking for our guests, and let us customize the space and beers to fit our party (shoutout to the Apricot Saison that my hubby was obsessed with). It was also delightful working with Jon and Preston (the owners) and Risa (the event coordinator). My mother-​in-​law worked with Risa to customize and add our own decorative touches to the space, and it turned out incredible. Pictures to come shortly…
We ended up having 130 guests in attendance and everyone had a blast! The beers, hard cider, and root beer on tap were a huge hit among our guests. CF has the awesome Sonos music system and let us play our own playlist as well as project a slideshow both inside and on the wall outside. We brought in a food truck that parked right in front to serve dinner to our guests, which fit in perfectly with the laid-​back, fun vibe of the space.
Jon actually served as one of our bartenders on the night of the party, which was amazing. He was so accommodating and our guests loved being able to talk to one of the brewers himself about the beers. Everyone that worked there fit so naturally with our group, they felt like they were friends. :)
So many of our guests commented that they had the best time at our welcome party at CF. It was a fantastic time and I would HIGHLY recommend CF for anyone looking for a really fun, customizable venue for your rehearsal dinner or birthday party. You won’t be disappointed.

Captain Fatty’s to the rescue! My friend was scrambling to find a venue that would accommodate her rather large guest list and «chill» environment for her rehearsal dinner, and Captian Fatty’s was perfect!
We did a walk through a few weeks before the event and didn’t think the inside would be enough space so they let us create an outdoor area to accommodate all the guests. They were easy to work with, especially when it came to having futons and tables delivered. We were able to bring in our own wine and even re-​name the beers! They also allowed us to have a food truck come in and park in the parking lot.
Plenty of parking, clean restrooms, and great costumer service. Highly recommended Captain Fatty’s for any events. Will definitely use them again!

Captain Fatty’s certainly fills a niche (perhaps one that most of us never realize existed :-)! That is, a comfortable and safe place for young, new parents to enjoy decent craft brews without having to find a sitter. Yes it does seem like day-​care most times, but hey, these are the coolest of parents (that we all wish we’d had :-o-​). OK, maybe its not the perfect place for everyone, especially those of us who’ve finally gotten all their kids out of the house, but I really appreciate what these guys are doing. Oh Yeah, Beer is decent with a solid core lineup but they could use to offer a few more beers outside the mainstream, don’t be afraid to experiment :-)

Awesome small batch brews, Awesome staff, and there is even a little small place inside the brewery where your kids can hang out and play. a Mobile Brick Oven pizza guy outside makes pretty good pies too!

Great brewery! I love the family friendly atmosphere. The beer is awesome and there is something for everyone. The apricot saison is my favorite. There is a cider for the gluten free crowd, or just a refreshing change, and root beer for the under 21, non-​drinkers, or DDs. A perfect place to hang out with friends.

I stopped by to pick up a growler for my dad for Father’s Day and although they weren’t filling growlers that day due to low supply (which I took as a good sign) they were able to accommodate my request and I took home a full growler of their Cascadian Dark Ale. My dad loved it! Thank you Captain Fatty’s, I’ll be back soon!

Bar tender was fantastic. A fantastic variety of beers for how small of a volume they put out. Would recommend. The inside is nicely decorated but had the warehouse feel. Has few tables, a bar, and a hook game to play. Not by any means fancy, but if you’re looking for good hand crafted beer from real people, this is the spot.

Kid friendly nanobrewery with good beer that’s too kid friendly.
This is what beer drinking parents everywhere need. A super casual, clean and friendly environment to bring the kiddos, catch up with friends, maybe catch a game on TV and enjoy some tasty, craft beer made in über small batches. The problem for me is the kids. Sorry parents.
While I enjoy spending time with my nieces and nephews, build forts, dress up like fairy princess complete with makeup, it’s not a ton of kids all running around at the same time. This was my experience at Fatty’s. Twice while we were enjoying two great IPS server up by John, part owner, and Josh flying projectiles bounced off our table. I get it. The kids were having fun and there’s ABSOLUTELY nothing wrong with that. I think it’s great. It’s just not for me.
If I had kids or was meeting some parents, I would totally come and enjoy this easy going joint. And you should. But if it’s me and some other non-​breeders, I’ll pass. Sorry Captain.

Some pretty good beers in an off-​the-​beaten-​track location. My first visit fave was their Vortex IPA. 13 oz glass is $ 6.

If your looking for a brewery with heart and not afraid of being different Captain Fatty’s is a breathe of fresh air in Santa Barbara. Very welcoming environment, the staff is very friendly and charismatic. Can’t wait to see where this brewery goes in the future. Send beer San Diego’s way when y’all can.

Captain Fatty’s is a magical place where parents can come and enjoy craft beer along with gourmet tacos from Corazon while their offspring play in the kids corners. These owners are geniuses. Just because you are a breeder, doesn’t mean you don’t want to enjoy a good beer after work. Now, you can being your mini me and fido to a casual, kid and dog friendly place while you sip a cold one. The vibe here is awesome and the beer here is also awesome.
