Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day; teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime. Bank On Wayne is part of Wayne County Literacy Services and helps people specifically with financial literacy. What goes into this? Bank On Wayne provides seminars and informational sessions on bank accounts and bank services, major purchasing decisions, budgeting, credit, and becoming financially independent and self sufficient. For people who attend a seminar on said stuff, they receive actual applicable information. They will gain direct access to free or low-cost accounts for bank services, insurance, etc. Instructors will even look at a specific person/family’s budget and help people adjust accordingly. I am honored to have volunteered with this organization and my experience is humbling as I got to help families directly who need assistance and know-how to make responsible financial decisions. How can people help? They don’t want donations like other organizations. They really need instructors who have a finance/accounting background and enjoy getting in front of people and spewing their stuff. Curriculum is given to you and you won’t have to prepare much other than how you want to execute your talk. I dare say most who attend these sessions are mature enough to actually seek assistance and are aware they may have problems. So it isn’t like you will be talking to middle school aged kids who have never been responsible for anything financially or to ding dongs who just don’t give a damn. Bank On Wayne just wants your time and I honestly can’t wait to help again. Most sessions are run on weekdays(although sometimes they are available on weekends) and attendees must register. Volunteers would need to contact the office to set up and prepare for a session. Thanks for helping people become self sufficient and not a drain on NC and the Goldsboro area.
