Café Oceana has very good food. They do steaks and seafood very well, and other main dishes are interesting and delicious experiments in refined American cuisine. However for the prices they charge, they need to refine their presentation and accoutrements. For example, bread and butter at your table instead of saltines and spread in small plastic packages would be nice. Salad dressing in small ceramic bowls instead of plastic takeout cups would be great. More interesting salads would be even nicer(Romaine with tomato is a salad?). Further, a staff more knowledgeable about all the dishes, beer and wine, is almost an imperative for a customer who is willing to pay for a $ 30 steak to come back to your place again. While the staff there is nice, they were more on the chatty side than the professional side. For example(and I am trying to keep this constructive), if a customer tells you a beer is skunked or the wrong kind, you shouldn’t disagree – just take it back – don’t try to explain why the customer is wrong. The interior is nice enough, though the sconces right next to your dining companion’s head are bright and unpleasantly distracting to look towards. That aside, the comfort and atmosphere inside more than makes up for the building being a double-wide trailer on the side of highway 3235 outside. In summary: great food, but to really sell a sit-down meal for two at $ 90, the staff needs to work harder on the little things. If I want to treat myself to a good takeout meal for $ 35, I might call in an order for pickup, but I probably won’t go back to dine in(especially not with a date I want to impress) unless I hear something has gotten better. As far as Galliano goes, though, this is the probably the nicest you’ll get. So I guess it is a quintessential«diamond in the rough».
