Valley of the Rogue State Park

We stopped in looking for picnic spots on the Rogue River. First off, the park is well maintained with good ablution blocks — and even have yurts for hire. There are indeed plenty of picnic spots, but most of them are crowded together. Even the campsites are unnecessarily crowded, given how much space is available.
The park runs parallel to the Rogue River and the I5 freeway. Unfortunately, there is a lot of traffic noise from the freeway and the river is hardly visible down a steep bank. So I’m giving this the thumbs down if you want a quiet picnic spot on the river. If you’re looking to camp overnight while travelling or want some open spaces far from the river for your kids to play out in the open, then this park may suit you.
The address given for this park is 3792 N River Rd., Gold Hill, OR 97 525 — excepting that is actually on the opposite side of the freeway from this park. Take the 45B exit off the I5 and follow signage or set your GPS to 42.410 816, –123.129 541

This is a good park. Very clean. We have been here twice and have never had any problems. Some people have complained of freeway noise. We did not hear any. We were in a 5^th wheel in the d loop. That might have made the difference. In the summer they do have activities for kids and there was even a signing group. It was old country. No wifi that I noticed but the cellular is good here. I have Verizon and ATT. Both had 4 G. Good place for bikes and walks. Close to restaurants and shopping. Enjoy!

Fair warning: beautiful campsite with construction going on all night long. I suggest a more pleasant experience of camping in a construction site. I asked the rangers if I had an ok site and he had no forethought of warning us that construction had been happening for weeks– all night long!!! Literally one of the worst camping experiences so far. Thanks Oregon! One star is for the immaculate bathrooms.

Clean campsites, nice amenities. Wish there were a few more trees for added privacy between sites but overall a good stop that is right off the highway.

every year our Washington friends meet us halfway in Oregon for an annual camping trip. This year we picked Valley of the Rouge State park as it was exactly half the distance between Sacramento (us) and Olympia (them). Its location couldn’t be more convenient, right off the highway exit. While it may seem weird that it’s located right behind a rest stop, i didn’t mind. Our campsite was actually pretty close to that part of the park and I felt that I was rarely, if ever, disturbed by the incoming and outgoing traffic.
The campsites were HUGE! For our group of 6 we reserved two, but easily could have fit on one with room to spare. Bathrooms in loop A, brand new, and there is an amazing bike path that leads down the entire site (which makes for a great morning run or bike ride). Also, the river hiking trail was beautiful and covered in delicious blackberries and we even found a little spot by marker 7 where someone has damned up the rocks to make a few little pools of water, great for small children to swim in and away from the fast currents of the river.
Lastly, our park host, Terry, couldn’t have been more amazing. He was great with the kids, provided them with tons of toys leftover from past campers and was just great to chat with.

Stayed here this weekend. Ranger Matt was helpful and incredibly good looking. The booth found us a great site. A little close to the highway but they do the best with what they have. 3 mile river trail.

This campsite is very clean with excellent amenities. My family of 3 stayed here in May 2014 on the way to and from WA. It’s an excellent midpoint between NorCal and Seattle. We absolutely loved the yurts! Stayed in 49 then 54. Yurt 49 had nice privacy but 54 was really close to the bathroom (good and bad I guess) but I liked not needing a flashlight when I went in the middle of the night.

Stayed here 1 night on our way to eugene. Very convenient and clean. Didn’t realize it was up against the freeway. If you’re tent camping, pretend It’s the ocean? Or just be really drunk or have ur music on. worked for us! Water was cold but nice. found a chill sandy spot behind the rv area on the trail. Make a right and it’s on the left. Dope. The host was nice he opened a can for us cus we didn’t have an opener. Saw folks leaving wood behind at their sites and was I spires to do the same but then the host took it all after they left and I thought that was rude. He sells it for 5 $ a bundle. It’s cheap but c ’ mon. it’s for the campers, wasn’t left for him. No bears or opposing like we r use to but tons of mosquitos. Bring bug spray! Would have opted for 3.5 stars but the host stole wood and my dog got bit up pretty bad.

Earwig infested, cramped with no privacy, expensive nightly rates, and constant noise from traffic.
If you need a desperate excuse to camp close to Medford for a night the kids might give you kudos

Great for a one night stay to break up a trip back to Cali. Clean, well maintained sites, and friendly service. This is our third year in a row with an RV and happy every time. Tent campers have to hear the freeway. Too bad for you!

Made a pit stop here, bathrooms were clean, although pretty cold, but that’s to be expected.

The campsite is located right off Interstate 5 at exit 42B.
The Applegate Trail goes through it. It runs along the river but none of the campsites in any loop are located by the river. The River Edge Trail is wonderful — we enjoyed blackberries all along our 1.5 mile walk.
We were located in site F54 — little to no shade, but lucky for us we were gone exploring most of the time. This campground has yurts to rent, firewood for sale, and lots of campsite hosts to help you find your way. A wonderful aspect was the great restrooms, showers and laundry! The space was long and that’s what we needed — other spots across from the bathroom would have been a better choice as there was a great walkway onto other adventures we kept trekking to. It was clean and quiet while we camped from Thurs — Monday the last week of September. It is located very close to Grants Pass which has a fabulous farmer’s market on Saturdays! In City of Rogue River there is a Ray’s where you can pick up some organic produce, ice and other necessary items.

Love this park. This is our 3^rd year here. Central location. 18 miles to Medford 11 to Grants Pass. Awesome bike path behind park. Friendly hosts and Rangers. Yes, it can be noisy if you camp near the freeway, we always camp along the back. Full hookups. Some sites are satellite friendly, more accessible with portable dish than rooftop.

Stayed here on our latest road trip — had a wonderful experience. Yurt was clean and ready early. Camp Hosts were friendly and delivered firewood. We checked in early and really enjoyed the walking/​bike path. Midweek in April isnt crowded and it is just far away enough from the I-​5 to where we slept well but had convenience of getting back on the road.

Clean and quiet and easy access to town

The campground is beautifully maintained. The sites are well spaced. Free hot showers and coin laundry was an awesome bonus for these weary travelers. However, you are gonna need earplugs or be a sound sleeper to get any rest at this campground. We were tucked in F loop, next to the river and far away as one can get from the freeway and it was still an ever present drone of traffic noise. Staff was great. Too bad they are stuck next to the lousy I-​5.

Worst camping experience I’ve ever had. If you like the soothing sounds of constant truck traffic on the interstate, then this may be perfect for you. But, I prefer a quiet experience. It felt like I was camping in a city park. VERY expensive! $ 27 per tent site ($ 19 +$ 8 per site reservation fee). Bathrooms didn’t even have soap or seat covers. We paid $ 24 at Crater Lake and had a fab experience.

Just recently hit the road and drove up to the San Juan Islands. On the way north, we stayed on Valley of the Rogue State Park, located just off I-​5 at exit 43. We liked it so much we stayed on the way home a week later. Great campground, quiet, clean, cheap and really convenient. I’d give it 5 stars except for the rangers walking around the campground were not very friendly.
