We stopped on a road trip for lunch. Because we were in a bit of a hurry, things felt a little slow but the delicious food and friendly staff/chef made up for it. I’d go out of my way for the yummy Wasabi fish tacos. Stop here, you won’t regret it.

Nice place. Great character. Service needs help. Friday night one server. Was working hard, but missed the basics. Never offered drinks or appetizers. But he tried hard. The food was cooked well, but lacked flavor and the menu is a bit of an odd collection of choices. 3 out of 4 at our tabled ended up ordering fish and chips. Cooked well. But lacked any seasoning at all. Placed fried fish on top of wet Coleslaw. Really. I watched what others order and saw a lot of fish and chips go out. Looked like a safe choice off the menu. The 4th ordered the Brazilian tacos(??) the menu said it was a half pound of shrimp and scallops. Not even close. This place is on the Oregon coast and the number one fish offered is Alaskan cod. Not as fresh as they like to say. Mine was dry and tough. Would I go back. Not really. Sorry.

Was very excited to finally get to eat here but was equally disappointed. Started out with super flat, tasteless, diet pepsi(fix your machine!). Moved on to very nice, small salads… fresh greens, nothing special, but an important element. Sweet potato fries were decent. Wasabi fish tacos were not what they should have been… they should have had an incredible piece of fresh cod(as they pride themselves on that!) But, instead, it was two teeny tiny pieces of fish with an overkill of batter. The saving grace was the wasabi cole slaw but I didn’t pay nearly $ 12 for a cole slaw taco. No refills on water and having to chase down the bill. Even after complaining(& including compliments on the good parts), there was no offer of price reduction or anything else. I know the waiter was busy training someone knew and I felt badly for him but… that’s an important part of customer service which should have been a part of the training.

It’s ok. Then again everything in this town is just ok. Mediocre burger, good not great chowder. However their homemade hot sauce was great!

My husband and I discovered this little gem while on a road trip through Oregon. We had lunch(I had the crab cakes and he had the fish and chips. Both came with a great ginger cole slaw and were delicious. In fact it was so good, we spent the night nearby an came back for dinner where the basil parmesian crusted cod was absolute perfection. The chef knows how to cook fish without drowning it in sauce or overcooking. Yum! The service was great and the atmosphere friendly. It goes without saying we’ll be back when we’re back in the area. Do yourself a favor and try out Barnacle Bistro.

Nice salad greens! I often find that the quality of fresh greens shows a restaurants overall commitment to high quality food. Beautiful steamer clams in a white wine bath. Don’t miss the garlic bread, it’s the real deal with whole cloves baked in. Yummy garlic fries too. The clam chowder wasn’t awesome, it had bacon, eew, and was too thick.

I was fully expecting BB to be like a typical fish and chips joint, which was what we were seeking. What we got was a delightful surprise. The first thing that jumped out at me was actually a burger topping, the candied jalapeños. In addition to a side of the jalapeños, we also selected the dungeness crab cakes(seasonal item), Brazilian seafood tacos with shrimps and scallops,(the server’s suggestion) and the tuna melt panini sandwich with garlic fries. And there were probably six other items we were considering from the diverse menu. The crab cakes were my least favorite item. They were okay, but they were small and a little on the dry side. No lump crabmeat here. They came with a side of slaw and a flavorful aioli. I did not waste any of those house made sauces. The tuna melt was great, as were the garlic fries. Fish tacos were huge. Soft taco size flour tortillas stuffed with big pieces of scallops and shrimp. The sauce was on the fruitier sweet side, which paired well with the sweet scallops. The candied jalapeños were not what I was expecting. I thought they were going to have a crusty candied coating, but instead, they were more like sweet pickled jalapeños. Still awesome, but it wasn’t the spicy candy I was hoping for.

Cute little place, great good and quick service. Stopped in for a quick bite to eat for lunch and after reading the reviews for the local restaurants around we went with the one with good reviews. After eating they stood up to the reviews read. We started with the crab cakes and a cup of chowder, came out quickly and was good eats for appetizers. I ordered the tuna melt, my dad had the wasabi tacos and my mom had a burger. Good came quick and was exactly what we had ordered. Stomach is full and the food was delightful. Atmosphere was great, server was very attentive and acknowledging of all the customers as every table was full. Highly recommend this place for lunch or dinner even if you are just passing through.

This was my favorite restaurant while visiting Gold Beach last week. My husband and I cannot stop talking about the curried mussels! They were so delicious. I had the shrimp and scallop tacos which were really great. They are HUGE tacos, so do not be deterred if you want more that two tacos. It will be more than enough. My husband had a burger that he enjoyed thoroughly. I loved the surf shack atmosphere too!

Oh my, what a pleasant surprise. We went for fish and chips and were blown away by the freshness and quality of the food and the helpfulness of the service. The fries had to be the best I’ve had in life! and, the wasabi tacos cleared your sinuses; just the way I like it. All in all, a great find!

Small hole in the wall, but has a sweet charm about it. Fish was very fresh. We ordered the ling cod fish and chips with sweet potato fries and slaw and the cod marinated and baked with a basil pesto and Parmesan cheese. The batter on fish and chips was light and crispy and the fish was flaky and flavorful, fried to perfection. The couscous salad was simple but tasty. The cod was a tad chewy and almost tough on a few bites, but the flavors were delicious. The server was courteous and helpful. Overall a very good experience.

I would definitely return here the next time I am in Gold Beach. Tightly packed little restaurant serving a lot of food made from scratch, locally sourced, and no farm raised fish. The burgers looked amazing, everything from the size to the sesame topped bun. I ordered the fish n chips. The fish was perfectly flakey and the fries were made in-house. I chose the garlic fries! There were vegetarian options that looked good. Some Brazilian influenced fish dishes on the menu. Not your typical small city diner, way better! If you’re in a hurry, might not be the best place though. You can order to go though… Oh, their appetizers looked good too, steamed mussels or clams in wine, garlic, butter sauce. The portions are serious.

This is our go-to spot for years when we vacation at Gold Beach or in the general vicinity. Owner-operated, and a cute little place. Solid burgers and sandwiches, and everything served in large portions. Had the homemade veggie burger – ginger slaw is second to none, and the garlic fries were incredible. A highlight is the feature of all of Arch Rock’s fantastic beers, which are brewed down the street. Diners with me swear by the chicken sandwich, and the fish ‘n chips – however, the clam chowder on the days we visited was rather gelatinous and bland. Be prepared for a small dining room which is often busy and on a wait – they have a small staff and small kitchen, so also be prepared for that, but we honestly have had a great experience here every time, even when slow. Visit and support this great local joint! Good peeps and solid food all around.

We come to Gold Beach often and it was refreshing to have a new spot to eat during winter months on the Oregon coast! Fun, quaint, friendly service and the food was fabulous. We had fresh clams in a wonderful broth, wasabi fish tacos(very yummy) and local fresh green salad and clam chowder. Very good bang for your buck, large potions, fresh made and tasty! Our neighboring table had burgers and they looked great too! Maybe lunch tomorrow. And my husband loved the Arc Rock Brewery’s Lager, made right here in Gold Beach.
