This place is closed. I’ve submitted it to Unilocal a couple of times and they are still showing it as being open. Go figure.

Decent food and friendly bar tenders. The regular wait staff could use some cheering up. Prices are fair and Ive only had one bad experience there in many visits.

Got take out. Horrible disgusting food. Avoid at all costs. Caesar salad had about 5 leaves of lettuce and 3 of them were rotten. The rubber chicken was tasteless.

Father and three teenage girls went for our monday night family dinner. Here is our review! The waitress was pleasant but the decore was a little much. .. just too much. .. We had the muscle appetizer it was moderate in size and less than moderate in taste. Dinners: #1 steak tips with fries and mash«tips cut like buttaa«mash the bomb #2 ten pound island burrito inside amazing outside not so much a little to dry. # 3 fire grill chicken sandwich«was very good and very dilish with the dressing on the grilled bun» #4 had the lobster roll«the poor lobster died in mayo but they toasted the bun so all is good«french fries were uncreative can’t someone make a creative french fry? We were just wondering what is up with the fire place? You could have had it on a music channel or something. Look for our review next Monday. Wait dessert #1 got choc mousse«a unicorn in a dish» #2 coffee café«taste buds dancing on a cloud with unicorns» #3 got the terramesu(sorry I can’t spell that) it was like a «river of delisi» I had beer for dessert always a good bet!!!

Here at the new location, 116 main st, the food is subpar and the service, while affable, leaves something to be desired also. For the price there are definitely better options. Also, they were playing FOXNEWS on a couple of the giant televisions.

Is it April yet? I wish there was something in East Gloucester open other than this place. Mushy pizza. Why isn’t it ever crunchy? Soggy pizza is the worst Subpar pasta. Why should I need a steak knife to cut the eggplant parm? Eggplant is NOT chicken or steak. WEIRD. And it’s funny because I have heard 3 other people say the same thing!!! Inconsistent drinks. Sometimes my lemon drop martini is delicious, sometimes it tastes like Lysol. The soda is always flat. Overwhelmed servers. I saw you once ilke 20 minutes ago but ummmm where did you go I need you? I think they’re understaffed half the time. I saw two different guys walk out one time I was here. Looks like they were ignored. Tacky tacky decorations. It looks like a diner from the outside, with all the ugly signage, and the inside is a bit better, but still overdone. Gaudy is a good word for it. Everyone tells me how great the old Espresso restaurant is, from about 5 years ago. But the one on East Main Street is not good… at all. Overall, incredibly disappointing. We have tried to like this place, as it is the only thing open, but no go. We won’t be back. Bring me back the Madfish or the Rudder. I’m even willing to take the Studio. Just anything other than this!

READTHISBEFORETHINKINGOFGOINGHERE. DONOTGOHERE! DONOTGOHERE! the restaurant is now Espresso Italian Grille and Pub. they moved to where Harbor House used to be. I went there last night with 6 other friends because someone knew the singer of the band playing. We got there and some lady said we could sit where ever we wanted, so we sat down at one of the tables and were all given drink menus. We ordered from a nice young waitress, but then one of us decided to change her order so she gets up to tell the waitress. This is when Satan comes in to play, the owner. After doing some research I believe her name is Annette Perrine. She said we aren’t allowed to change our order. She also started snapping about how she doesn’t have any of the«weird martini’s that we ordered»(why would they have a huge martini sign lit up outside of their restaurant). Oddly enough, our waitress comes out with the«weird martini». Then things go overboard when the owner comes over, throws down the bill, and says she doesn’t do tabs and starts demanding we pay. We never even said we were going to do a tab. We’re all just sitting at the table chatting with each other. So now, as she is hovering over us, we have to split our bill 7 ways without even having taken a sip of our drinks. I’ve never sat down at a restaurant, been given menus, and had to pay before eating or drinking. it really wouldn’t have been that big of a deal for us, except that she acted like Satan, shouting out things like…“this isn’t that hard! its 8 bucks a person!” mind you, we have not been rowdy, haven’t given any attitude, etc… we’d only been there maybe 10 minutes! I told her she was being very rude and giving us an attitude and she said I was giving her an attitude. We left no tip and none of us will ever come back. I could see this happening from some waitress who is having a bad day, OR if we were being obnoxious and rude(which we weren’t at all)…but to get treated like that from the owner? Strangest, most bizarre, rudest moment I’ve had at any restaurant, and that includes McDonald’s. I hope her business fails. I would actually truly enjoy seeing her business fail. and I’ll end this review as it began DONOTGOHERE! DONOTGOHERE!

I have to revise my review after a decidedly mediocre recent experience, which was a bit embarrassing because I was hosting friends from out of town. Suffice it to say that out of five people, no one was satisfied with their meal and some of us were served dishes that we didn’t order. We were pretty much the last customers on a Sunday night, so I’m tempted to chalk it up to fatigue or the chef having departed.

In a small city with a million places to order pizza, we give Espresso’s 4 stars for theirs. We only order take-out. They always accommodate our special orders and the pizza is delicious. The dough is not too thin or too thick, the pizza is always cooked to perfection and the sauce is not too sweet or sour. A good balance of fresh and homemade ingredients. A lot of pie for the price, too.

Only ate here once, but I thought it was pretty good. I started with the house salad; it wasn’t exciting – overly chilled and a little wilted bed of mixed lettuce, a few slices of cucumber, 2 cherry tomatoes and pitted olives. I loved the foccacia which, while not warm, came with a lovely plate of flavorful olive oil with chunks of garlic and sun dried tomatoes – yum! I ordered the veal piccata(sp?), and they did a decent job. Good-sized portion of veal over linguine; lots of capers and garlic; could have used a little more lemon to brighten it up. Otherwise, flavorful – (I had to sprinkle on some salt). I thought the plasma screen on the wall showing a video of somewhere in Italy was cheesy, but otherwise I liked the atmosphere; the wait staff was friendly and quick(but it was incredibly empty). I’d go back again and try more items on the menu!

Espresso Ristorante and Pizzeria used to be the best Italian food in Gloucester — and that is saying something! It is now under new ownership. The inside has been updated — but I long for the cheesy look of the past. Not to mention the food of the past. Since its new ownership, I have ordered the fettuccine alfredo(it isn’t on the new menu, but they can make it). The sauce is lacking. It used to be such a lovely alfredo sauce — creamy, rich, and smooth. Now it is a little gross — too greasy and the sauce breaks down as you are eating it. No longer a consistently creamy sauce. The salad that comes with your meal has better quality veggies(e.g., mixed greens instead of iceberg lettuce of the past), and the bread is okay. I like the addition of rosemary to the foccacia bread. I am a huge FAN of rosemary. However, the bread just isn’t the same. And this place used to be all about the bread! It was luscious and garlicky — but not too much, and it was fabulous to get a sandwich on their homemade bread. Sad to say, this isn’t the fabulous Italian meal that you would dream about anymore. I wonder if the previous owners opened a new place — and if so, where? Anyone?

Eh. Went here onlyl because it started to downpour and we didn’t want to walk up and down Main Street looking for food. Place was fairly empty when we arrived. They have a mix of sandwiches, pizzas and pastas. We decided to split a pizza because we weren’t too hungry. We got a medium, which was large enough for 2. We got ½ green pepper and the other half feta cheese. Drinks were very large and tasty and they have beer and wine service. I don’t know if this is a new place or under new management but man was it erratic service. A pizza should not take ½ hour to make. This one did. People who ordered pizza after us got it before us, even with toppings. That was really frustrating to me because the waitress should have given us updates. This was lunch time and we wanted something quick. The pizza tasted like a frozen pizza crust. So really there was no excuse for how long it took. The total bill came out to be 10:45 which makes me think they took off some money due to the delay.(Pizza is $ 8.50, with two toppings, should have been $ 10.00 plus the soda). While I am not complaining about that, there was enough other things to make me not come back.

my first experience here was a sour glass of Chianti and a sugar granulated cannoli. i went back because of an insistent friend who thought this place was great. ‘really?’ i kept asking her. ‘are we talking about the same place?’ needless to say, my second and several other trips back have been better. their pasta dishes are much better than the cannoli. I enjoy this weird little whole in the wall Italian restaurant
