Always a problem when ordering take-out. Final straw came this week when a quart of pork fried rice was ordered. When it was picked up, it turned out to be a pint. This was brought to the restaurant’s attention, but they insisted that the pint was a quart and charged accordingly(about $ 9.00). To make certain that I wasn’t losing my mind, I drove a few blocks down Washington Street and ordered a quart of Pork Fried Rice(about $ 8.00) from another Chinese Restaurant. Sure enough, when the order arrived it was indeed a quart. I realized that I had just been charged for a quart of fried rice but received a pint at China Port. The irony was that the rice at the other Chinese restaurant was much better that it was at China Port.

I have a quick review for this place«It’s great if there were no other chinese food places in the city.» The problem is Gloucester has over half a dozen and honestly most are better than this place. The first time I’ve gone in when they first opened, I got a mixed up order. Which is funny because there was a guy complaining about the same thing as they handed it to me. Of course I was home by the time I figured this out but still. The food is decent, again… if there weren’t a bunch of great chinese food places in the area… this place would be great but there are just more superior options available. It’s dimly lit, it’s cold for some odd reason, the staff is sort of friendly, the prices are ok I suppose. There’s nothing more to say than the fact is you can do better if you’re willing to go downtown.

Hard to believe that this small unassuming restaurant off a rotary in Gloucester has some very delicious Chinese food. Get the chicken lettuce wraps or the beef with snow peas — wonderful fresh food!

Very disappointed with our lunch at China Port recently. The appetizer started OK — a large jumbo shrimp in batter, but both entrees were terrible. Mine was the Lobster sauce with prawn and pork fried rice — basically a full dish of ground pork with no detectable lobster taste in the dark sauce it was swimming in.- — essentially misrepresentation. The side rice was very unappetizing. My wife had a General Gau chicken with Lo Mein noodles — the latter was just OK, but greasy. The chicken nuggets were terrible — stale and tough — nothing to commend it. We left with our meals largely uneaten, probably the worst Chinese meal we have had Would not recommend this place until they have improved significantly. Could not find or be put in contact with an english speaking maager to complain to.

The chicken fingers were good. But anything that has sauce has a really strange taste. The lo mien had a musty taste. We also got orange chicken and it had an odd taste because of the sauce. I had a hard time with the taste of the pineapple chicken. I think they need to find a better balance of seasonings in their dishes. I don’t think I will be going back anytime soon. China port is much better than dragon light but then again that isn’t saying much because that place sucked on a different level.

the restaurant was incredibly cold when we went for a late lunch last weekend. so cold that we wore our coats the entire time. the service is well intentioned but somewhat scattered. we ordered lunch specials of orange chicken and beef and broccoli, which came with pork-fried rice as well as a choice of appetizer. we each opted for the spring roll, which turned out to be a deep-fried egg roll. the food was bland and the beef & broccoli sauce was on the sweet side. the pork-fried rice was plentiful. hot mustard saved the day. if you are looking for authentic chinese, this is not the place for you. i don’t plan on going back anytime soon.

Happy we ventured out in cold, snowy, weather, & happened upon China Port! Hot, quick, delicious! Crab rangoons cooked to perfection. We were a party of four, & all happy with our meals! Efficient, friendly, & polite service. Apparently they just opened last month & won’t have a liquor license until March. But, don’t wait that long to visit! If you have a hankering for chinese, it’s totally worth your time, money and appetite. Conveniently located off the first rotary into Gloucester, just after crossing the bridge. Go! You’ll be happy you did. We were.

China Port restaurant, not to be confused with Dragon light, is without a doubt some of the best Chinese food I’ve ever had. Everything is fresh, original, and made to order. The wait staff in this family owned business are very accommodating. The Mai Tia’s are right on. There is some confusion with Unilocal giving the wrong address. Please be sure to check before ordering or venturing out.
