Globe Gym is the ultimate mixed bag. It’s the only gym in a small, largely unremarkable town, and as such, it’s going to be your only option if you live and/or work in the area. To that end, it’s not a bad investment by any stretch of the imagination; they’ve got a decent selection of machines and weights, and honestly, if you’re looking for a standard workout, this place is going to fit the bill nicely. The membership fees are fine; the gym is pricey for what it is especially when you consider that thing like personal training and classes are not something included in your membership. Classes, at the very least(I’ve never dabbled in their proffered personal training) aren’t terribly overpriced, and usually will run you $ 5-$ 10 a pop. This does however, come on top of your existing ~$ 30/month membership, so factor that into your calculations. Atmosphere wise, the place is okay. The staff are generally uninterested, and don’t acknowledge you unless spoken to. To their credit however, they have never been rude or unfriendly in the two or so years I’ve been a member. The carpets and lighting make the place look a little dingy and gross, but the bathroom and shower(yes, singular) have been generally clean when I’ve had to use them. All in all, Globe Gym is fine. It’s not terrible, but it’s not inspiring either. It gets the job done, and earns a fairly respectable, but middle-of-the road three stars.
