El Portal Mexican Restaurant

Had dinner here last night! Food good! Margaritas good! Service fast and friendly! Prices were great! Clean fun environment!

Fast, Fresh, Filling & Fairly priced. The thing I like best is that the staff is always moving so fast to take care of their guests. I’m from SoCal so I’ve been enjoying Mexican food for my whole life, this restaurant is legit. I always seem to get the Fajitas: shrimp, steak & Chicken… can’t finish it, but it’s awesome.

We headed to el portal while visiting family in Glenwood. We were a group of 7, including 3 kids and 1 vegetarian. We were seated immediately, given our chips and salsa, and our menus. Then we waited. It took about 10 minutes to get our drink orders taken and another 10 to get the drink and have our orders taken.
Once the food arrived, two of our orders (1 child and our vegetarian) were wrong. Half of the food arrived, and the other half didn’t come for 5 minutes. We ate, and after finishing sat for a long time without seeing our waiter or getting our bill.
Aside from the service being incredibly slow, the food was actually very good. The rice had a lot of spice to it, and was really delicious. The chicken was quite tasty, and everything was hot and well prepared. I would come back just for the rice and the cheese sauce!
Overall, I give this 4 stars. It may have been an off night for service. The food was good enough to bring me back.

A friend and I are touring the country on bikes and after a long ride we needed something to really fill us up. Well this place did just the job and even more! The fajitas were amazing. I can honestly say those were the best fajitas I have ever had. They will fill you up and you will have tons of leftovers! The waiters were nice and polite. Didn’t have a single problem! I would suggest eating here for sure:)

We love this place!!! Super awesome with our kids; food is always hot and delicious! This is our go to spot on Sunday nights!

Great friendly place to eat! They are good friendly hard workers. We usually get the Hawaiian fajitas, it is very tasty! I have had other things on menu and haven’t been disappointed yet. Their margaritas that come in many flavors are really good too!

Went in with my family yesterday and left stuffed and happy. The kid’s meals are only $ 3.50 and are a good size with drinks included. Free chips and salsa were good as well. I ordered a burrito and tostada and was less than impessed — it was just your average Mexican. My husband’s carnitas however were amazing. The meat was crispy on the outside and my husband said he’s never had carnitas like it.
Service was good too. Will definitely be back!

Wednesday night is cheap margarita night! I always get the Nacho’s del Portal. The wait staff is VERY good and attentive. The food is pretty good.

This is the same group that owns other El Portal restaurants in Neb City and Auburn. This one is just as good (and as popular) as those locations. The staff is very friendly and the food is good.
For those of you not familiar with El Portal the food is very similar to La Mesa but with more variety. One dish is particular is a favorite of ours — Pollo Jalisco — a grilled chicken breast covered with chorizo and cheese — delicious.
Everything here is decent from something as simple as nachos to the bacon wrapped shrimp.

My father and I were staying at the Western Inn, which is just across the street.
This place was THE happening joint in town. In a town of 5,200 people, we had to wait for a few minutes.
Our salads were good (Taco Salad and Mexican Salad), but the tortilla soup was cold and funky (and it came out 10 minutes late). The salsa (for the chips and salsa) was a bit too watery.
The servers were nice, though. Everyone was quite helpful and the people were friendly.
Beware: the portions are HUGE. Massive. Gigantic. Neither of us finished our salads. And we wanted to.
