We had our skylights replaced in November 2014. Since then we’ve had a significant amount of snow, ice, and water on the roof, so we feel the new skylights have been tested by now. We are pleased with the work done by Houseworks Daylighting Solutions, and here are the main reasons: — professional and efficient estimate and scheduling process — no surprise costs — high quality and broad selection of products and accessories — warranty: 20 yrs for glass and glazing, 10 yrs for skylights and flashing, 10 yrs for installation — great appearance of the glass; it’s clearer/cleaner than on our old skylights(including during and directly after rain) — experienced and knowledgeable installers — efficient and clean installation, while protecting the house from damage(furniture, floors, etc.) Quote and scheduling: Ron L. and Buff H. I recently purchased 2 new skylights and a solar powered velux window shade(from Jeff) for one of the skylights. When they arrived on site to install they forgot that I ordered the shade. I was told it would take approximately 2 hours to install the windows and shade. The installer installed the skylights and then left for a while to obtain the shade. He ended up at my house ~9am to 4pm. While installing the shade he told me it is not working. Then around 4 he said the shade is installed, but does not work because it needs to be charged and it will work the next day. Of course the next day the shade did not work. I called Houseworks and spoke with Buff and told him I want a new shade. Buff told me this is a warranty issue between me and velux. I told him I wanted Houseworks to replace this immediately and then resolve this behind the scenes with velux. Buff refused this request and told me I needed to call the velux rep, even though the shade never worked out of the box. Finally a velux rep showed up over a week later and installed a new shade. The new shade is wrinkled on the edges! I called Buff and told him this. Here is his reponse: Tom, Here is the response from VELUX Solutions. The«wrinkling» of the fabric at the sides will diminish over time. The black tabs which hold the fabric into the rails is where the distortion occurs. This distortion of the fabric dissipates over time with heat and use of the shade. If the shade is left in the down position it helps remove the distortion in the fabric much faster. While this may seem to be a problem with the shade, it is normal and not considered a defect. As for the controller, the shade I installed is a RF model and the previously installed unit was an IR unit and the remotes are not compatible with each other. Sent from my iPhone The service from Buff has been terrible, unprofessional and condescending. I still have a wrinkled shade and Houseworks does not stand behind their work. I do not recommend Buff or Houseworks. Beware!

In October of last year, we purchased a home that was built in 1957. The previous owners had lived in it for over 37 years and definitely took some shortcuts on home maintenance. When the winter«polar vortex» hit Chicago, our skylight began to leak and drip muddy water all over our freshly painted ceiling! We knew we had a problem… After hours of research, going back and forth on choosing a roofing company or specialized skylight company to do the job, it was clear that Houseworks was the best and most preferred option. Mark Becker came out to our home and performed a thorough assessment. He hopped on our roof, took pictures of every angle of our skylight, and discussed all of the options we had to replace the window. He even discussed options for different payment methods since our budget was tight given all of the money we had already poured into updating the house. On the day of the install, Ron and his assistant Kevin came bright and early(about 9am). They covered every facet of my kitchen with plastic to protect the surroundings from dust and debris. Performed all job duties listed and even showed us pictures of the completed exterior job for our approval. Overall, we had a very pleasant experience with Houseworks Daylighting Solutions. I would highly recommend them for any skylight installation or repair.

The guys at Houseworks really know skylights, are professional and easy to work with. Due to some electrical wiring that ran on a beam where the skylight was to be installed, the guys were able to offer a solution that we are very happy with and looks great. They were able to order the new skylights quickly and install the next week. The pricing is very reasonable and they use Velux, a top quality product.
