On a monthly basis I order catering for a corporate event. This month my team wanted Chinese food and instead of getting them some ho-hum food from a fast food chain I decided to give the House of Joy Chinese Restaurant a try. I figured I’d be helping a local business and their food would probably be more tasty than something prepped at a fast food Chinese store. I couldn’t even place the order. I had my Admin call the restaurant to place the order and an extremely rude man answered the phone. He told her we couldn’t place the order today because the order was for tomorrow. We tried to explain that it was for a company even and we needed the food ready at a specific time. He said it didn’t matter and hung up. Not willing to give up I had another colleague call(a few hours later) in the hopes that she would at least be able to stay on the phone long enough for us to figure out HOW we could order food. She got the same rude man and this time he told her that they DIDN’T take orders over the phone. She explained that it would be for 50+ people. He said we needed to come to the restaurant, place the order, wait for the food and that we would have to make sure it kept fresh until tomorrow. This makes NOSENSE. Why would we place an order and accept the food today if the even isn’t until tomorrow? Frustrated and extremely unhappy with their customer service I had no alternative but to place an order with Panda Express. They were not my first choice but they DO take catering orders over the phone and, it turns out, they were much more affordable(although I was willing to spend the $ 300+ on the order had they been able to take it). I will NEVER be patronizing this establishment and if asked I will tell everyone I know of my experience with them.

We were seated very quickly, so no long wait. I was really looking forward to eating jajjangmyeon. This resturant definitely satisfied my craving.

We’re regulars here. It’s near Glendale Galleria, so we usually come here after some shopping. We like the Peking Chicken, which they’re famous for. It’s very crispy and spicy! There’s plenty of parking on two levels. We highly recommended this restaurant.

The food here was delicious, to say the least. I came out feeling really full and happy. No wonder this place is called house of joy. Get the Peking chicken, Mapo tofu, jia jia mien, slippery shrimp. Food: 5⁄5(bomb!) Atmosphere 3⁄5(old school)

Their shrimp fried rice is the bomb, so delish! And their one ton soup too. I ate here last week. My first time with a friend. Service is good and friendly. I would highly recommend this place.

Massive portions for a very average price. My family(4 people) usually order 4 or 5 dishes to share, and it leaves us feeling comfrotably full. We ordered 5 here because we were really hungry, but there was no chance we were even going to come close to finishing everything. We ordered beef tangsooyook(), peking shrimp, jjajangmyun(), jjambong(), and spicy seafood noodle(). The tangsooyook was good. The beef pieces were very crispy and the sauce was pretty standard. It met my expectations to say the very least. The jjajangmyun and jjambong were also good. Nothing special about the jjanjangmyun, but I really liked the jjambong soup. Still, it’s pretty typical Chinese Korean food. We got the peking shrimp because everyone said the peking chicken was their specialty, and we wanted to try the sauce but with shrimp. Everything was good about the sauce other than the fact it was pretty salty. I kept feeling very thirsty after my meal, presumably due to all the salt, but the shrimp were crispy, you get a lot of shrimp, and it also comes with steamed broccoli(mmm broccoli). Lastly, I didn’t think the spicy seafood noodle was good at all. It was overpriced and pretty bland. The only upside is that they give you a HUGE plate of noodles, enough to share between 2 or 3 people. Overall, I would say this place is just average. The food is good, but not excellent. The service is efficient, but not warm and friendly(I think they were short-staffed because they had a help-wanted sign posted outside). The portions are very big though, so it’s a good place to come if you are with a group of hungry friends or family.

This place brings me great joy! It is aptly named and a bit underrated. The place focuses on Korean-Chinese food. Favorites include the ja jiang mian and the spicy fried chicken. Portions are generous.

We ordered three sea jjam bbong and jjam bbong and sweet sour beef(spicy style tang soo yook) Tang soo yook is more covering than meat. Some were 100 percent covering flour and no meat instead. There were some without any meat inside, the sauce was pretty good tho. The jjam bbong and the three sea jjam bbong had NODIFFERENCE. The only difference was the price. So don’t order the three sea one. The taste of the jjam pong soup is not bad, and overall, the noodle was tasty. FYI: this is Korean style Chinese food.

I’ve been here for many many years, and it is consistently good. Definitely better than the one in la crescenta, but not as good as some located in ktown. Get the jja jang myun. It is always on point.

I haven’t been here in a good while, but from what I remember it was the most delicious spot. Today proved otherwise. I came in today and had the crispy pan fried noodles which were delicious! However, I wanted to try something new and ordered the honey walnut shrimp which was a huge mistake! It has seemed like it was overly dipped in Mayo. So gross! 3 for the delicious noodles!

This place is truly a hidden gem, and I’m so glad that one of my closest korean friends took me last week, because I highly doubt I would have found and decided to try this place otherwise. Both the korean and chinese dishes were great here, the price wasn’t bad at all, and the service was nice. There was no wait for a Sunday lunch, and I’ll definitely be back again. I can definitely see this becoming a regular restaurant of mine. Luckily, in the same structure there is also a Midori Sushi with AYCE sushi if I’m in the mood for that.
