This was where we went to purchase tickets for the Portage Glacier cruise tour, The building contains a restaurant and a gift shop. We did not eat or shop, so no review on those areas. The ticket purchase was quick and clerk was friendly.

Portage Glacier Lodge is the best value in Alaska! We have eaten there several times since we moved to the area two months ago. The chowder is to die for! All the sandwiches, fish and chili are great also. Be sure to try some cornbread and save room for a tasty brownie! If you need tips on how to get the most out of your giant portage glacier burger just ask my boyfriend ;) We are also very excited you will be open this winter! Thanks for making outstanding food and having such great deals!

We were on a tour bus to go visit the Portage Glacier Visitor Center… and to do the boat tour. We stopped over at the Portage Glacier Café and were told by our guide to try the seafood chowder in the cafeteria. Ok, whatever… we walked in there, checked out the gift shop, then decided we might as well grab a bite there before going over to the Visitor Center. Wow — this place is so understated. A cafeteria? I think not. The food elevates this place well beyond cafeteria status! That seafood chowder she haphazardly recommended was OUTSTANDING. We weren’t expecting that. It truly was amazing — so freakin’ yummy! The rest of our meals were just about equally impressive — great burger and sandwich. What a completely unexpected and pleasant surprise that day! Heck, the attached gift shop was pretty cool as well — they had a bit of the usual tourist junk but also some unique art and stuff as well that I didn’t see elsewhere. I have to give them 4.7 stars and round up(it wasn’t as good as the rib-eye I had at Jack Sprat, which is my new standard for giving out a full 5 stars), but it was way up there! We had a few dozen people on the tour with us and those who tried the chowder and other food raved about it the whole trip! Kudos to this«cafeteria»!!!

Amazing! If Unilocal offered a 6th star, I would have gladly given it. I’ve traveled globally and throughout Alaska and this place just stood out head and shoulders above the others. The staff is incredibly knowledgeable about the area, about the best trails, best views and in Alaska that is the attraction… but if Michelin gave out stars for small cafes, they’d compete with the best restaurants in NY and LA. The soups are made from scratch, the pastries just came out of the oven and the place smelled of butter and cinnamon. Yummmm!!! The gift shop has something for the most discerning art connoisseur and those just looking for something to take home from local artists… If you can’t find something here, you’re not looking! What a gem!

Fantastic little place! I am so glad I stopped in! The gift shop was amazing. I was going in to grab a cup of coffee from the cafeteria, and ended up dropping a bunch of $. Great gifts, clothes, and unique items. I have not seen some of the same stock in the various stores that I have been in. Great Jewelry as well! The cafeteria is misnamed! I think they should advertise it as a café. I tried the reindeer hot dog on a sourdough bun, it was great. Tasty, and different. The fries were fresh and HOT! While I was there, someone else got a cinnamon bun– oh boy, I wish that I would have tried one, they looked amazing!
