Tried Spice n Ice out for dinner last night. We had the mixed tandoori grill, their vegetarian spinach with cheese, naan and a couple Grey Goose martinis – ALL fabulous. We went very early when they opened for dinner 5 p.m. which may explain why we were their only patrons. When we left by 6:15 no one else had arrived(Thursday). Hope this is not a bad sign. We really need good ethnic food in Gilroy! The atmosphere is great and service was excellent. Truly hope they can make it. Meal price: Average and since it was excellent – a good value.

I love this place, great food, neat old firehouse building and friendly service. You must try the garlic Naan, amazing! They have Kingfisher on tap which compliments the food nicely. Still a new restaurant in Gilroy, go before it becomes hard to get a table.

So disappointed in our last experience at Spice & Ice :-(After my wife got sick the last time we ate here we should have known better. We arrived around 530 the place was empty and we sat down and were promptly greeted. After being given menus and waiting 15 min the waiter finally took our order. Another 15 minutes we finally got our drinks and a half hour later our food was brought to us. I ordered butter chicken and when received it looked a very dark red color and the chicken was very chewy and stringy I still believe this was not chicken. They removed that from the bill it had to ask twice before it happened. The place was still empty when we left. Unfortunately we will not be back which is very sad for us as our first 2 experiences were great. I hope the owner reads this and does something to improve the business

My friend suggested eating here for dinner. I was pleasantly surprised by how good it was. They asked how we wanted the spice level and it was perfect. The nan was so good we spent some time just smelling it. I loved the Indian beer with dinner. I will defiantly be back.

Let me say the food is good not great. The Naan could be more crisp but the BUTTERCHICKEN exceeded our expectations. Our review is more on the side of service or lack there of. Unilocal listed hours of operation 11am — 10pm. We arrived at 2:15pm and found a hand written sign that they were closed until dinner 5pm. However, they had another sign advertising HH from 4−8pm. When we return at 5 the place was empty which I presume they(father/son) were prepping in the back. When he came out to greet us, he said there wasn’t any HH on Fridays. Décor was very dark inside, we could barely see the menus and there wasn’t any Indian flair. The ground was sticky and the restroom had an aggressive smell of stale water. Our complimentary water had gnats in it but the server never bothered to come back. The place smelled so musky we decided to take our order to go. BTW: they forgot to pack my Basmati to my order. Interesting given the fact we were the only customers at the restaurant.

This was my first trip here, I had been curious for months. I went for dinner, the place was about half full. The restraint was clean as were the tables, glasses, etc. I was immediately greeted by the chef’s son who works there. He sat me and took my drink order. I had iced tea, but the have a full bar, beers on tap and bottles, and wine by the glass or bottle. I ordered a lamb dish, a vegetarian dish and rice along with some garlic naan. All of the dishes came out in their own serving dish and a plate to put the food on. This is perfect for sharing or not mixing different flavors together. The lamb was really good, the veggie dish lacked a lil seasoning but was ok. The naan was really good and freshly made when it arrived. I would definitely recommend this place to friends and will return. It’s nice to have something different in Gilroy, and this place is a welcome addition… oh they also do take-out AND delivery!

Once the old firehouse is now an Indian restaurant/bar! The service was good and the food was delicious! Wine paired nicely with spices. They have something going on here! Nice dinner, pretty relaxed atmosphere and weekend entertainment. I’ll be back!

This was the worst Indian food I have ever eaten! The buffet had absolutely no variety and the food was FULL of salt. Other than the disappointing food, the bathroom was infested with insects. Gave one star because of the naan(which was edible compared to everything else) and the fact that I can’t give less than one. Overall, coming here was one of the worst experiences I have ever had in my life.

This place has a really relaxing atmosphere. It seems like it would be an excellent place to have a drink with friends on a Saturday night. Here’s the odd part, the food doesn’t taste like Indian food. It’s on the bland side. There’s really nothing savory about it. Everything is kind of sweet, even the garlic naan. It’s not merely that it’s not«hot», it has very little in the way of spices. In short– all sweet, no spice. In all fairness, my friend choose the mild dish, so that may have been part of the issue. Everything was very fresh. Nothing was burnt or undercooked. If you like savory Indian food, you’ll probably want to look elsewhere. If you like creamy, milder foods and yogurts, this is the place for you.

Let me first say Unilocal is heaven-sent! I wouldn’t have found this place if I hadn’t looked through each restaurant in the area. And this place lives up to its reviews. Came in in time for lunch buffet. But I opted to order ala cartè because being from Vegas, I have become so immune to buffets. Not that buffet is a bad thing(Vegas buffets are the bomb!) but I wanna try and enjoy a specific dish instead bouncing on one type of dish to another. For this food trip, I had shish kabaab for appetizer serve in a sizzling plate. The smell was like aroma therapy. LOL. The meat was a little dry to liking, wish it was a little juicy. But it still was good. The spices made up for it. I ordered garlic naan and chicken tikka Marsala. It was G-O-O-D! The yogurt sauce of the chicken tikka Marsala was very rich and creamy. I ordered it medium in spice. Just enough heat. Not overpowering. The server was very attentive and knowledgable about the cuisine. I had a little help with what is a good pair with what. Very helpful and he was very attentive to what I needed. Impressive considering he was the only server when I came and there was a big party(birthday) too. One definite gem that needs to be checked out when you’re in Gilroy. Great food. Great ambiance. Very clean.

This is kinda new place in Gilroy, and I haven’t had many dishes yet, but I have to confess that they make THEBEST gulabjamun I’ve ever had. Truth is I’m not from India, but I have a friend from the Punjab capital of gulabjamun who also highly recommends that dessert. Check their schedule before going there, since they have been making changes often. Breakfast is also available on certain days, as well as a buffet-style option.

The portions seemed a bit smaller than what we are used to but the food was excellent, the prices were reasonable and the service was friendly. We had the Butter Chicken, Chicken Tandoori Tikka, Garlic Naan and Chole Bhature… all were absolutely amazing! I have never had a better Butter Chicken; the sauce was so creamy and delicious– the tomato & coconut really come through and compliment the tender chicken breast. I am so excited that a new restaurant with a different cuisine has come to Gilroy– cheers to success, Spice ‘n Ice!

BESTINDIANFOODEVER! I live in San Jose and heard about a new Indian restaurant opening up in Gilroy. I love trying new restaurants especially Indian food. This place does not disappoint. This place is situated in the downtown area of Gilroy and the interior is very beautiful and welcoming. GREATDATESPOT! I would definitely drive the 25 minutes from San Jose to eat here and get my Indian food fix :) We ordered a couple dishes. We tried the Chicken Pakora, Chicken Paneer and Chicken Tandori… notice we love chicken. The Chicken Pakora was nicely breaded and super moist inside. The mint and tamarind dipping sauces were a great addition to the dish. The Chicken Paneer was very good. I usually get the Saag but wanted to try this dish with chicken. It was not too heavy and the flavors were well balanced. The Tadori Chicken was amazing from the start when it came out on a sizzling plate. And when you bite into the chicken it was very juicy(unlike other places I’ve been were its all dry from the grilling). A must try is the Garlic Naan!!! We are definitely coming back to try the other dishes and I’ll update this comment accordingly! MMM!

I’m so excited we have an Indian restaurant in Gilroy! And a good one, at that! The owner is Fijian Indian, and hence, while many items on the menu look familiar, according to the owner, some have a Fijian Indian flair – very cool! There’s even a Fijian egg scramble, which I have yet to try. I did try the Shahi Paneer, which was excellent, but slightly different from other Shahi Paneers I’ve had(perhaps this is where the Fijian part comes in). For dessert, I had the Gulab Jaman(«fried milk balls in rose flavored syrup»), which I very much enjoyed; they tasted like a pancake shaped like a donut hole, covered in a rose-flavored syrup. I look forward to checking out their buffet and many of the other unique items on their menu!

Service was little slow, but friendly. When the food came(Tandoori chicken tikka masala), it was excellent. Naan was well done. Few other items were Ok. Advice to fellow diners: Samosas(appetizers) taste great, but they can fill you up before the main dish. So is the Mango Lassi drink. Watch out for those.

I’m not generally a fan of Indian cuisine — or at least, I thought I wasn’t. Then my wife introduced me to Gilroy’s newest restaurant and now I have another name to add to my list of great places to eat! We came in recently right as the restaurant opened(at 11AM) and enjoyed the buffet. It’s all you can eat for under $ 10 and they had a great selection. Some spicy — some not! — but all of it good. I sampled every dish they offered in the buffet and I wasn’t disappointed by anything. I was especially pleased with the ‘Naan’ — it was hot, fresh, and fluffy. This seems like a popular place — even though we came in right at opening there was already someone in front of us and the place continued to fill up as we ate; by the time we left there was quite a crowd. The owner told us that if we were interested in dinner to be sure to make a reservation because the place gets packed!
