I visit this store frequently. There prices are very competitive and there service is the best. I always have tons of questions and i always leave there with tons of information. I cant think of a better small business to support than this one. They always go out of there way to make sure i get what i need and at a great price. Thanks to everyone at Out On a String!!!

I went to Out on a String on a lark because I was interested in learning to play the guitar. There I met Spencer who spent a large amount of time explaining about guitars and what they’re used for and which are easier for beginners to learn to play. OOAS offers guitars starting at very affordable levels through moderately expensive models. Unlike at some shops, you can ask for and get assistance when trying out different guitars. I opted to take lessons from Matt who is teaching me both music theory and how to play the guitar. I am learning about music in general, how to use a guitar to make music more interesting, and how to play the guitar. Overall, I’ve been very pleased with the service I’ve received from OOAS. I look forward to continuing lessons with Matt and continuing to patronize this store.

Handy small local music store — We need to support our local folks! *Good for getting strings, accessories, music. *Good choice selection for those wanting to explore a new instrument. You can get economical instruments to begin your musical journey. *Bought a package deal for my son, an electric guitar, picks, strap and amp for under $ 100.00! He really enjoys it, works very well. *Owner is very helpful, and supports local talent like the Gilbert Town Fiddlers. *School instrument rentals may be available, owner was interested in expanding this when I last spoke with her. Check it out, its near the community college. Love our local music shops!

This is by far my favorite music shop in the East Valley! A lot of changes have been made there this past year or so and all for the better! They have a great selection and if there is something you are looking for that they don’t have, they go out of their way to help you find it. Every time I go in, I am greeted with a smile… which seems to be difficult in music stores… some just tend to glare at you and some people have actually told me not to touch anything upon entering their store! Not the case here. The 2 guys that I see there most, Spencer and Nick, are incredibly knowledgeable and very friendly and Kim, the owner, seems eager to make(and keep) her customers happy. Great store! Great Service! Great People! To me, that is what it’s all about! I hope this store is around for a very, very long time!!!

Every time I’ve been in Larry’s shop, I’ve always had a great time. I had Larry set up my telecaster back in the Fall and it was the best set up I’ve ever had. The only downside is that you have to wait 2 – 3 weeks for the set up to be complete. But that’s fine with me if it’s done right! And trust me, it WAS done right. A week ago, I took in a bass I bought off Craigslist. It was in pretty terrible shape. It was fretting out, the action was too high, it didn’t have the original knobs, etc… One of their luthiers, Mike, said he would take care of it all for me. Surprisingly the bass set up was only a few days. I go in and first thing is see is that Mike replaced the knobs back to stock Jazz bass knobs! He told me it was on him. I was so surprised! But what even surprised me more was how great Mike made it sound. He really knows how to set up a bass guitar! Thanks Out on a String! Adam

Are you serious? I brought in a guitar to have set up because I wanted a nice professional tune-up before my show. Boy… was that a mistake. They told me it was going to be 4 – 6 weeks to do a setup that would probably take 10 minutes to do…(it was a hardtail with EASY access intonation screws on the bridge). I came to check up on my guitar because my phone was broken about 3 weeks after I turned it in and the so-called«Master luthier» is sitting on his ass doing literally nothing. Not to mention his rudeness when I asked about the guitar.(I’ll call you when it’s done, in a stern voice). I asked him about a guitar on the wall and he responded like he wasn’t even listening to me. I came back another week later and there he is sitting on his rump doing nothing. I thought there was«all these guitars in front of mine?» If there are soooooo many guitars to work on, Why are you doing nothing Mister«Master Luthier’?

I have walked into this store 4 times. Each time the owner acts like he’s something special, reminds me he’s a «master luthier» and talks to me like I am an idiot. There are a few decent import guitars, but nothing of any consequence. Some good heavy metal amps, but no high end to speak of. It’s a very uncomfortable atmosphere.

A friend of mine suggested I try this place to have my guitars set-up. I’m glad he did ! So far Ive had 2 of my guitars set-up by the Owner/Luthier Larry and they have never played so good. This is a small music store which is locally owned. They don’t have the huge selection you would see at GC, but Im sure they could find whatever you might be looking for. Also, Larry is a lot more knowledgeable than the teenage kids at GC. I give this place 5 stars because the work he has done on my guitars so far has been great and at a fair price. The only drawback I can note is that it takes a few weeks to get the set-up completed, but I don’t mind because its worth the wait. However, if you only own one guitar, that could be a problem.
