I hired Matt to let me know the diameter of the vent pipes from the ceiling fans in my condo, so that I could purchase dampers for the vents and a new ceiling fan for one of the bathrooms. Before he came, he told me he had a 2 hour minimum charge ($ 80).
When he arrived, I showed him the location of the fans. He suggested that I get the homeowners association to put baffles around the vents on the roof. Since my problem is cold air entering my condo through the vents, that would not solve the problem. Then he asked me if I had a warranty on my unit. I told him I did not. If those options were open to me, why would I need Matt?
He removed the motor from one of the ceiling fans and replaced it. He was unable to remove the cover from another ceiling fan.
In the time that he was at my place, he told me he went to a Gypsy Kings concert, that he played guitar. that his guitar teacher studied with Segovia, that he owned a business in San Jose and taught school there, that he has a master’s degree. He told me his taste in Jazz, and that he has a band. He also mentioned numerous times that he is A.D.D. He said that he is a home inspector and pointed out a water stain on my laundry room ceiling, which I was aware of and had already dealt with.
When he finished telling me about everything, but what I hired him to deal with, he informed me the his charge was $ 120 (3 hours work). I told him that we had already agreed to 2 hours, which is what he finally charged me. Now, I know all about Matt but I still I still have no idea what the diameter of the vent pipes is nor whether I need to get a ceiling fan for a 4″ or 6″ vent.
He is personable and well spoken. He just did not appear to be interested in dealing with my problem.
