I’ve ordered online from a number of nurseries, but have never experienced the quality of service and packaging that I received from this place! When I placed an order for a tree, I received an email stating that they would ship it to me on Monday, reducing the time that the package might have to sit in a warehouse over the weekend. The package arrived on time. The packaging was excellent. The plant was in great shape, hadn’t lost a leaf. I just placed another order, and will continue to consider them my #1 choice in the future. Good job, folks!

Paradise, Kentucky style; with a bevy of native Kentucky ferns, perennials, annuals, biennials, grasses, and a good collection of non-native heirloom and culinary herbs, all set on a site that screams«You’re in the Bluegrass now!» Shooting Star(the nursery takes its name from one of said native species) is a most valuable resource to Kentucky and Ohio River Valley gardeners(and I imagine many gardeners well beyond those borders judging by the robust mail order business evident in their converted barn/HQ). Staff here are engaged, most knowledgeable, and they are DOINGIT, and that is what counts most to gardeners. If you ever doubted that abandoning most of your European garden cultivars for American species could result in a well-ordered garden that is as beautiful as the English models many of us have followed for years, you need only see the grounds of Shooting Star Nursery to become converted(at least partly). I posted 2 photos from my May 9, 2013 visit and they hardly do it justice. And, it’s all sound ecology. our native bees, butterflies, and indigenous wildlife need you to plant these beauties since humans have encroached on so much of their habitat. I acquired around $ 250.00 of new plant DNA for my Louisville home garden, all at a very competitive price to more mainstream nurseries and Shooting Star’s web-based competitors(American Meadows, et al). Since I got home with my new babies I’ve been rushing around trying to make garden decisions in between my work-at-home duties and the bits of rain that keep failing. If you’re in Louisville and want to drive down, I highly recommend that you take a few moments to investigate their web site before appearing as it will help you clear your mind and order your thoughts towards an objective… as you most certainly won’t be able to do or learn it all. I look forward to frequent visits to this Georgetown KY native nursery, and since I have some starts to trade on a species they lack, and they brought up a 1:1 trade, it appears that my return visit may be soon.
