Gateway Visitor Center

Lovely visitor center with a fine selection of gifts. I like postcards, which are increasingly difficult to find, and they have a GREAT and CHEAP selection from which to choose. Nice and reasonable Colorado history book selection, most are CO state publications. One staff member was very nice and chatty — but the tall old hippie guy manning the cash register in the gift shop clearly hates his job, and he should go; he yelled at someone for petting the stuffed mountain goat. I’m knocking one star off because of that grouch. Otherwise, a pleasant stop to browse and refresh yourself

Awesome little gift shop. Clean restrooms. Close parking. A costumed guide even greets you as you enter the building!
A small park across the street for you (or your dogs) too.

The Georgetown visitor center is the perfect pit stop on the way to and from skiing. The staff is friendly and helpful. The gift shop has plenty to look at, but most importantly, the bathrooms are clean. The location is perfect with easy access on and off I-​70.

We have never been disappointed stopping here. Free clean bathrooms with lovely soap. When the store is open, you had better hold on tight to your wallet, because there are lots of great local finds (and some not so local, but still great finds). The staff is very friendly and helpful. Thanks!

Like all the other Unilocalers: Great place to stop for a bathroom break on your way home from the slopes! The traffic can really get backed up between tunnels so this is a perfect time to get out and stretch your legs or use the restroom. Restrooms aren’t overly nice but they will get the job done.

Great location. Easy access on abd off. In a nice building with displays of local artists. Only had 2 vending machines but it’s surrounded by gas stations with mini marts. Also had a kiosk full of info on tourist places.

I’m going to call the Georgetown Visitor’s Center a «life saver». It’s not quite the mid point but it’s the perfect spot for a pit stop on the return to Denver from the mountains. After a long day on the slopes all you want to do is get on the road and beat the traffic However, there comes that moment on the road where you get the urge and realize you really cannot hold it until you get back to the city. I’m going to start supporting the shop more through either a donation of a buck every time I drop in or buying something in the store.

After going to this huge, fancy welcome center at the east end of town, we were treated so badly, we considered not visiting at all. But, after hiking at Guanella Pass, on our way back through town we found there’s another visitor center on the west end on 6^th street, which is their main street, in a little house. The woman there was delightful and helpful and answered all our questions and, thanks to her, we wound up spending the afternoon in Georgetown and plan to go back later in the week to spend the day.
When we went to the big, fancy welcome center, we asked our first question about a festival they have and the woman said «I don’t know anything about it.» and turned away without so much as a smile. We felt so unwelcome we were planning to skip Georgetown. They should replace her with a clone of the woman in the little welcome center on 6^th street, so both centers can make visitors feel truly welcome.

Why write a review about a Visitor’s Center? Why Not!
While driving up to Glenwood Springs, we made a short stop at the Visitor Center Gateway, which is located off of I-​70, in Georgetown, Colorado.
The parking lot holds plenty of cars, which is needed on such a busy interstate.
The interior is clean!
The restrooms are clean!
The staff is friendly!
They have lots of maps, brochures, postcards, and plenty of information, when asked and/​or needed.
Their gift shop is small, but quaint. I bought one of the most delicious smelling hand lotions from there. It is made of goat’s milk, and it has a citrus scent! Simply yummy! Must admit that I purchased the last one available (on that day), and the woman that came in behind me was out of luck. Sorry!
In one of the hallways, there are small displays of items available from various shops in town. I thought this was a nice touch.
I liked it! Believe me, I’ve seen many a Visitor’s Center though my life, as my parents use to put the three of us kids in the car during the summers, and we’d go off, driving on vacation. I’ve seen over ½ of the United States by car. With that being said, I know my Visitor Centers, and this one is nice!
BTW — It was so nice, that we stopped there again, on the way back down to Denver.

Stop in for a hot cup of tea (much better selection than the gas stations nearby) and check out the great book section in the back.

I was w/​my dad and I tried on a beanie then shouted across the room that it’s for infants? Lol w/​e it fit my head so I kept the beanie. He comes over with a fake smile and says «Oh can I ring that up for you?» in a way to «threaten» me. Then he walks away and almost shouts «Gona stretch it out!» The whole time I was walking around the store, I could seriously feel his stare with every move I make. Like what am I really going to do w/​a moose trinket. ._​.
Regardless if I’m a teenager or not — a customer is a customer.

This is definitely one of the better visitor centers. From large clean restrooms to a great gift shop to very experienced and helpful people. They also have a little movie and many photos about the history of the area. Last time we were there they had free coffee and hot chocolate but I’m not sure that’s always the case. There are also CDOT cameras on the monitors so you can see traffic and weather along I-​70.

Stopped to use the bathroom. A small visitors center and didn’t have much. No one greeted us at all. Located in the mountains, but it was a good rest stop. Got gas across the street. Seems like a nice small town.

This place has won a spot in my heart. Why, you may ask? Well if you know my husband, you would not need to ask. The man never likes to travel far from any bathroom accomodations and downright panics when it happens. Not pleasant. We spend a lot of time in the mountains, both during ski season and because we’re building a house in Breck right now, and this quick pit-​stop right off the freeway is responsible for upholding my sanity and my marriage to said panicky bathroom frequenter. There is no greater fear than the fear of my husband after eating a breakfast burrito on the road and finding himself far from this bathroom oasis. Though I’ve never even used these facilities myself (as an adult, I have no problem sitting in the car for an hour and a half without using an iPhone app to geo-​locate some toilets), they have proven priceless and I’m so thankful for them. The scenery is quite nice from inside the car window and there looks to be a lot of neat stuff out there to read as well as some maps to browse while waiting. I recommend it!

It seems that the Georgetown Visitors center is ideally located for my travels between Denver and the slopes. If there is traffic, and there usually is, this is a great place to stop off and take a bathroom break. The bathrooms are not the Ritz, but hey are way better then the alternative at the gas station across the street. There is never a wait for a stall and that is why I like this place for a break.

The people who work there? Fonts of information. Custer and Dolly, the sheep poised in the main area? Great fun. All of the maps and historical data collected and available for perusing? Fantastic!
The toilets? Leave something to be desired.
We stopped to get some information on Guanella Pass on our way up the hill. I had to use the restroom, and fortunately, they have some open to the public.
A massive word of warning: God FORBID you’re sitting on the toilet and happen to lean forward or move your purse across your lap or do anything to cast a shadow into the bowl and give the sensor the idea that you have actually stood up from the toilet. That sucker BLOWS UP when it flushes. And when your ass is still planted on the seat? Nooooooooooooot pleasant.
After my unfortunate bidet experience, I did manage to finish up my business, stand up and begin pulling up my shorts, and have the explosive toilet flush again. My advice? As soon as you’re done doing what you need to do, haul ass out of the stall as fast as you can. Whether or not you actually have pulled your pants back up is not important. I thank my lucky stars I had my glasses on, because public toilet water in the eye just would have been too much. Even I have my limits.
But otherwise, yeah, neat maps and super volunteers!
