Have been a customer of Gum Hoi for many years since I live just around the corner. It is consistently good and cheap chinese takeout. The lunch special is the best deal, however, their portions have gotten smaller over the years.

I have been a regular customer for years and not once did I have a problem! Today though when I called they put me on hold for almost 10 minutes! I could hear people and tried to get their attention but no one responded! I hung up and called back. Before I could finish my sentence the lady put me on hold again! I don’t know if I can order from them again now! It was such a bad experience and I thought they treated their customers better then that.

I’m not from the area — hopped onto Unilocal as I had a hankering for Chinese food after a long day and ended up getting delivery. Arrived faster than promised piping hot, fresh, flavorful and a huge portion.
Seriously a good value. Will order again when in the area.

I have eaten at Gum Hoi for decades — even when i moved away i would come back to visit family and get take out from here and it was always great! Tonight i wanted to try something new so based on suggestions in precious reviews i ordered the Dim Sum appetizer and VegetabChow Fun dinner — i chose the veggie — and they were both amazing! Great people work here always friendly and the place is super clean!

The food is good and fresh tasting. No stale grease or over done residue in the food. The pieces of fish and chicken and beef seem to be prepared as if cooking a meal at home, not a fast food restaurant. The orders are never short an item or mistaken. The staff is wonderful and polite. Great food! Great place in our little Haverstraw area.

This place is awesome. Good food and good service, just what I like. Ask to spice up the flavors or if you’re eating healthy ask for extra veggies. They’re friendly and know what they’re doing, unlike some of their competitors in the area. It’s missing one star because of the quality. It can be prepped better i.e. using less oils, but still the best for a take out place.
