Tried a variety of beef and chicken tacos on my first visit. Taste was ok, but there wasn’t much there for $ 10.

AUTHENTIC Mexican food in HOMEMADETORTILLAS is the hallmark at Monterrey Taquerias. Tortillas are the best thing here, and cover what are middling fillings. Carne al pastor is made cube(not stacked) style. Some cubes are a dry, and the meat itself is not as flavorful as the pastor in other places we patronize. I had the Carne al pastor gordita, which featured a homemade corn pancake filled with meat and queso blanco. The pancake and cheese were delicious, but I kissed the spicy smoky tangy flavor of tender pork :) The carne asada burrito was filled with steak, rice, beans, lettuce, and avocado. With a small salad or some chips and salsa, the burrito is big enough to feed 2 people, or make 2 meals for one. Bright red guiso de puerco is made of large park cubed stewed in a mild chile Colorado sauce(that needed salt, vinegar, and spices) until succulent and delicious. Our guiso de puerco was served with rice and refried beans that were not great, and homemade flour tortillas that WERE great! We also tried the Barbacoa taco — it was the best taco we had. The meat was tender, rich, and seasoned. The Lengua taco disappointed. It was soft and bland, the opposite of the Barbacoa. If Monterrey can up their spice game so that the meat matches the tortillas, they’ll get 5 stars easily! But today — with the tortillas(5 stars) outshining the fillings(2 stars), Monterry Taqueria gets 3 stars.

The home made tortilla tacos taste better than the other the serve here. I ordered the beef tacos — yummy but I have had better tasty tacos. My boyfriend ordered 3 other kinds and he said they were not so great he should have just ordered beef. You can’t go wrong with beef. The green sauce is very hot. Don’t put too much :).

The place was very busy at lunch which was a good sign. I got warm salsa and chips while I waited on my order. Food was good but not good enough for me to come back. Very greasy like the other reviews stated. I ordered the 3 taco plate. The chicken taco was fine but the barboca and shredded beef were very greasy.

This place was okay but I felt that it lacks flavor. The meat was a bit dry, the rice and beans was alright. I paid about $ 8 for 3 tacos with rice and beans. The portion size for $ 8 was pretty good and there were other things that looked pretty good so I might go back one day to try something else.

Awesomely perfect authentic Mexican tacos. Order at the counter and take it to go or sit down at one of their eight tables. I always get the 3 taco platter for $ 5.99 and mix it up with the different meets every time. Never been disappointed.

This is not your taco spot if you grew up eating real Mexican tacos. The meat was very greasy and tasted like it sits in its own juice(my plate could voucher for this). The Quesadilla(shredded beef) was soggy due to the excessive grease. Beans are good, rice is actually worse than the store bought«Spanish rice». Corn tortillas are store purchased and warmed but don’t have that hot from the grill taste or feel to them. As for flavor this area was lacking as well. The young man at the front was friendly, helpful and made that portion of the trip enjoyable. We most likely won’t return. It was cheap and in this case you get what you pay for. We did not finish the plates. There is a decent variety of Mexican candy. If you’re like me your childhood revolved around hot fries and Lucas!

I love their food. Always fresh. The homemade tortillas make the taco. This puts this taco place above all others ! They have great service

I wasn’t sure what barbacoa is exactly, but I’ll tell you what I do know. It is f-ing delicious. It seemed like it took quite some time to get my to-go order. It was because they freaking cook your tortillas as they’re ordered. ASTHEY’REORDERED.

WOW by far the best food I have had in a long time. We are from Austin so you get good food on every corner BUT wow not like this. We took food to go as well and ate it in the car to Missouri. Tacos were fresh and great. The tamales are full with filling. The Torta had a great flavor! everything was great. We will make sure we go out of our way to eat here every time we are passing through.

I’ve been on a quest for«my new favorite taqueria» since I moved to this area. I relocated from a small town near San Antonio where you can score a delicious taco on nearly every corner … that definitely has not been my experience here. However, I’ve found a few hidden gems and Monterrey Taquerias is one for sure. The prices are unbeatable, especially the 11a-2p Mon-Fri Lunch Special. The homemade corn tortillas are so thick and delicious you’ll only need one to perfectly envelope their tasty pastor or juicy bistek. Their salsas are fiery & fantastic. One star off here for blah sides … as I found the rice, beans & chips a bit on the boring side, but other than that a solid choice for authentic tacos!

A small gem I discovered today. Had a barbacoa taco and 2 bean and cheese tacos(not on menu). Coming from a Hispanic culture, the food was pretty good and tasted like a home cooked meal! I recommend it if you are in the mood for breakfast or lunch tacos!

I love this place! Their tacos remind me so much of Paisanos taqueria in Dallas. Their home made corn tortillas are delish. My only complaint is that they’re closed on Sundays.

I was told to give this place a try by a coworker. I have been on a serious search for great Mexican food since I got to Dallas. So first I will say I like the prices. They have .99 cent tacos! There is a little catch though. If you want freshly made tortillas you have to pay a little more. If you want flour tortillas you will have to pay a little more as well. I chose to go half and half with their corn tortillas. In my opinion the tortillas made in house are better than the tortillas that are packaged. I honestly can go for either though. I didn’t think that the corn tortillas made in house were out of this world. I tired their chicken, barbacoa, and beef stew, and lengua tacos. I was not to pleased with their barbacoa or beef stew tacos. The barbacoa was dry but didn’t have enough flavor. I believe it was cooked to much because even though it was dry i felt like I could taste the oil in it. The beef stew tacos were also very oily but had better flavor. Now I loved the chicken tacos and I even loved the lengua tacos even more! The meat was cooked perfectly for the lengua tacos. I can seriously just eat those only. The chicken tacos had the most flavor for me. The tacos are also served with onions, cilantro, and grilled onions. I wish there was more cilantro. The salsas they provide were good and hot like I like it. It really made the beef tacos edible. They will give you green and red salsa with your order. I think that this place is definitely worth the try. I am not sure this will be a staple but if i have in the area, this is where i will go.

I go so often the owner knows me and my order. You can’t go wrong here. Food and prices make this place an incredible combination. Enough said.

How many times have you walked into a restaurant and thought how it would be easier if you could just order everything on the menu to try it out. Well, at Monterrey Taquerias you can. With 10 varieties of tacos at only 99 cents each I highly recommend that you visit and walk out with all 10 tacos for $ 10. Monterrey Taquerias is right down the street from my house, and I’ve visited it twice over the past two weeks. During these two visits I tried their lunch specials, tacos a la carte, and their Horchata. Here are my findings: Their tacos are incredible value for the price. I’ve had better tasting tacos from other places(Dona Mary in Plano for example), but Monterrey Taquerias takes the prize for the best price to deliciousness ratio. Note: the price to deliciousness ratio may not be an incredibly scientific means of rating tacos, but in light of there not being a standardized taco rating system, it will have to do. Regardless, I would happily visit this place daily and get 3 or 4 tacos for a few bucks for lunch. I would also skip ordering the rice and beans. It’s not that they are bad, but they just aren’t as good as the tacos. If you’re thirsty you can try the Horchata, it’s decent. Your order will also come with 2 salsas — a green one that is hot and a red one that is hotter. The red one is great with the tacos as long as you can stand the heat. Also, be aware that the 99 cent tacos only apply to the cheapest corn tortillas they have. They have a higher quality corn for $ 1.25(ish), and flour is $ 1.49. Not to sound like a broken record, but the real value is the tacos, especially the corn. Speaking of tacos, they have one that I really love: the Guisada De Res(Beef Stew) taco. I could eat this all day. I love carne guisada and this one is almost perfect. I insist that you try this place! Drive by, order the entire menu of tacos, laugh maniacally, and do the American thing and eat all of them.

It was just ok, nothing really great but nothing bad. They charge extra for their homemade tortillas, which were fairly greasy. No salsa bar, so you’re stuck with the amount of limes, onions and cilantro that they give you. The salsa was mild, ok flavor but nothing special. My sons did like the hamburguesas. Im still on the prowl for a good taqueria near Plano.
